I am an artist that uses threads to draw, I mix colours on my sewing machine like paints on a palette. I make textile art and products using a variety of techniques but come back to my love of free motion embroidery time and time again. I happily take commissions for artwork and will consider any textile projects. Previously completed projects include making all the soft furnishings for a victoria

Dear Sewing Machine,

How are you? Oh my days I miss you sooooo much and can’t wait to catch up with all your news. ♥️

As for us…Well our girls and my steppie are a whirlwind of joy and endless energy! Our 6 year old non-stop keeps me on my toes as does our 10 month old who is, I think, about to walk! 🥰 Hubbychops has a new bonkers shift pattern at work which means I am solo parenting the majority of the time and we rarely see each other. I am now trying to impossibly juggle the new part-time job, full-time solo parenting/house-running and my creative biz. 🤹🏼‍♀️

Can you bloomin’ believe it… just as I was beginning to eek out some time with you, BOOM, it’s all gone a bit “Pete Tong”. 💥 I’m working non-stop but I’ve had to drop the ball with something and unfortunately it’s my creativity that has to take the hit atm.😩

It’s taken me 5 days worth of tiny snatched moments to scribble this down but I wanted to write you this little love note to explain myself and to let you know that I do think about you all the time! 📝 I can’t wait for us to be together, it won’t always be this way, it’s a temporary situation, it’s not you, it’s me and all that. 😬

If you see any my incredible Instagram followers and friends can you tell them I feel exactly this way about them too. I miss them dearly and will get back to them once I find a way. ❤️ Im not sure when but it WILL happen!

All my love, always yours, RBT # # #💋

24/12/2021

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas 🎄

All my love, R # #

Another set of colourful buttons to brighten another grey day. 🙂

Ive made the positive decision to be a bit intermittent here for a short time until I’ve got my shop back up and running.
I knew the juggle of my life as it is now and the list of things I want to do for RBT would be hard but I underestimated quite how hard 🤪🤣 so I’m gonna take a breather, learn and refocus. 🙌🏻 You can’t get rid of me totally as I’ll be in stories and will do an occasional post but mostly I’m gonna blast through some to do list, enjoy my family and prep to share my brand new prints and so more with you in January. 😘 Whoop Whoop!

07/12/2021

Currently unpicking the finer details of getting ready to reopen my Etsy shop. In the meantime I’ve got a handful more images to share as I made a few items, like these unpickers, in different glorious vintage fabrics.

06/12/2021

Feeling ready to colour in a brand new week!

05/12/2021

As mum to an almost 9 months old I sing about these a lot !!!!!

04/12/2021

I’m just a girl sitting in front of…a travel cot doubling as a play pen (that my beautiful little one will tolerate for about 3 minutes at a time🙄), my incredible biggest girl wedged in next to the light-box whilst she’s on the tablet (please tell me you are not on you-tube young lady) and sat behind my beloved machine whilst wondering if I can get away with not going to the supermarket for just one more day (again 😬).

I’m about to start a new supply job and about to head back into mostly solo parenting too as my hubby’s job role changes. Yes I’m juggling all the balls and yes I’m dropping lots of the balls too! 🤪

This weekend I aim to make some daily, weekly and monthly small biz plans and targets to try and restore some order to this chaos and continue chasing dreams.

The question is this ….. Can you ever have enough fabric scissors ? 🤔 ✂️

02/12/2021

I guessed that you would know what this was from yesterday’s close up but what I wasn’t expecting was how many different names one tiny little tool can have! So many had me laughing but my fave has to be when a lovely lady looked at it at and said
“oh you’ve sewn Jack”
“Jack?” I questioned
“Yes” she answered “Jack the ripper”
🤣🤣🤣 love it !

By the way Jack and all his mates will be up for grabs in my stories today incase you want to grab a textile original before they get listed online.

01/12/2021

It’s another close up detail and another game of ‘what am I’?

30/11/2021

For those of you that have asked to see the tape measure in full # #

29/11/2021

Things don’t always need to be grouped in collections, sometimes just a single item can be as cute as a button!!!!

28/11/2021

Cutting myself some slack today as I am so tired following a few lovely days of wonderful conversations and hilarious laughs at . Today is to chill before a mad day tomorrow .

27/11/2021

Quite literally sewing thread!

26/11/2021

My safety pin is certainly getting a lot of love and attention here at .

I love all your creative and playful title suggestions so let’s hear them for this one.

25/11/2021

I’m cheerfully heading off for the first day of and thought I’d throw a bit of cheer your way too with another set of colourful buttons.

24/11/2021

It’s not always the most colourful items that are beautiful, sometimes it’s the tiniest, simplest ones too.

What are your thoughts on a title for this collection of needles?

23/11/2021

Did you guess it ? Yep yesterday’s close up detail was a spool of thread. I made one and that got me to thinking why make one when you can create a whole rainbow of them.
I REELy hope you like this one ! 🤣 (sorry couldn’t resist).

22/11/2021

Let’s start the week off with a close up detail but what of ??? 🤔

21/11/2021

Squeeeeee I am so excited as clever hubby and I spent yesterday working on some banging brand new style prints of my brand new haberdashery collection and I’m giddy about it all.

All this newness will be launched at which is the only place you will initially be able to get your hands on it and is the only event I’m doing this year.

I’ll be showing you some sneaky peaks on my stories. If you want to bag an original or one of the first prints then please do come and visit me at at the Bath and West Showground in Somerset from 25th - 27th November.

20/11/2021

Oh look what’s just flown in!

19/11/2021

Bananas bonkers busy day here getting ready for alongside mum duties and all that comes with that. Anyway here is another detail shot of my measuring tape.

18/11/2021

If you’ve been following me for a while you may know that my love of textiles was first sparked by magical moments rummaging through my nan’s fabrics and haberdashery items. It was a modest collection in a dark brown wooden box but it was wonderment and joy in a treasure chest to me.

The buttons, oh the buttons! Is there anything more glorious than a collection of buttons?

17/11/2021

Work in progress shot.

16/11/2021

Next up in the haberdashery collection is this little jumble of pearl headed pins.

Let me know what you think and throw me any fun title suggestions in the comments please.

15/11/2021

Well done you clever lot, you guessed this correctly from my close up detail. So how about we have some fun and come up with some playful names for these pieces? Give me your title suggestions for this one in the comments please.

14/11/2021

Thank you so much for your wonderful response yesterday…so makers tools collections are go go go! Whoop!

Im starting with haberdashery items, so what am I making here ?

12/11/2021

Having loved the pencils I made, I got to thinking that it could be fun to start making mini collections of work inspired by the tools and equipment used by creatives and artists. I thought I’d start with haberdashery items as that’s my playground! I’m really enjoying this as a project to get back into my “sew flow” plus it’s perfect to focus on for as what could be better to show there!

My aim is to have my Textile Tools collection done first and once complete, the originals will be up for grabs followed by some playful prints I have whirring around in my head that I’m getting very excited about.

What do you think of this as a project idea?

11/11/2021

I’m blown away by your messages asking when my shop will be open again and your excitement to support me. Truth is nothing is up and running yet as my mat leave was such a rollercoaster. I’m working so hard with each snatched moment to revamp everything from my website to the products I sale but it’s gonna take me a little more time.

I have however launched a new Ko-fi campaign for anyone who feels they would like to gift me their support as I work to get myself back up and running (link in bio). If you don’t already know Ko-fi is a fun and friendly platform to donate a couple pounds (the cost of a coffee, hence the name) to support artists, small biz and all kinds of creators.

Anyway let me just take this opportunity to say a huge THANK YOU as from the moment I returned you have welcomed me back and floored me with your kindness… this community really is magical. # # # 🥰

10/11/2021

Whilst I’ve been off on mat leave I’ve loved spending creative time with my daughter and been happily sorting through all her art materials together, geekily ordering them. When staring at her neatly arranged colouring pencils and admiring the aesthetic of them in their rainbow row a thought popped into my head to recreate them in stitch . I’m really pleased with how joyfully these have turned out and it is already leading me onto a new series of mini collections. Whoop!

Photos from Rebecca Bruton Textiles's post 09/11/2021

Ok so before I properly get into sharing new work let me tell you that I’m very excited to be exhibiting at just one event this year and it’s only the bloomin best one! The epic is back and it’s gonna be an absolute belter of a show at the Bath and West Showground in Somerset from 25th - 27th November. I’d love to see you there where YES I will be showing some new work for the first time!

The best part is that I’ve got a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky winner!!!

To enter, like this post and tag a friend in the comments who would also love to go. Each separate comment is a separate entry. All names from Insta and fb will be entered into the competition which closes on Thursday 11th at 9pm and the winner will be drawn at random on Friday 12th. Good luck.

08/11/2021

I’ve only been back for a couple grid squares and I’m already letting my Insta get taken over by a guest artist but that’s all good with me as it’s my most favourite artist ever with a simply beautiful artwork.

This weekend we had to unexpectedly say the saddest goodbye to our beautiful cat Pipkin. Our incredible girl (5 yrs old) drew this picture of Pipkin to be buried with him so he knew how much we loved him. ♥️

Tomorrow it will be back to my art on these squares and my prattling on in my stories but I thought this deserved a place today.

Thanks for all your lovely messages after my stories this weekend # #

06/11/2021

Helllllllll yeahhhhh I’m back making new work! Just enjoying myself with some playful makes in rainbow colours to start off with!!!!! Here’s a tease of something new.

05/11/2021

Ohhhhh myyyyy dayyyysssss, just like that my mat leave is over! What has at times felt like the longest time away from instaland has also gone in a flash!

I can honestly say that my maternity leave has been a life changing period of time. We have faced so many unexpected challenges during this time all wrapped up in the hideousness that is sleep deprivation but I have grown so much through it all.

I’ve not made any new work in 12 months, that’s unbelievable but now it’s my time! I feel like I’ve got enough creative ideas in my head for at least the next 5 years! I’m not at all prepared for my return, I thought I’d be returning with the newness of a remodelled website, shop and all that jazz but absolutely none of that has happened. So how about you join me on the journey and we do all that together instead?! 🙌🏻

Excitingly though I feel like there is a newness that I’m launching and it’s me!!! I feel stronger, healthier, more energised, wiser and happier than I ever have. Let’s bloomin well do this!!

03/11/2021

Last day of my maternity leave !!!!

02/11/2021

See you in a couple days !!!!!
