What a community

16/07/2021

What a brilliant community! Thanks John and everyone!!

Thank you very much to two Superheroes at Morrisons last week for the donation of 20,000 sausages for the community food banks and Choose2 Youth around York.

Can you guess the names of the Superheroes?

These went out to I am Reusable , Danebury Drive food bank, Door 84, Bellfarm Community Centre, Foxwood Community Centre, Chapelfields Community food bank and Choose 2 Youth making meals for the community food banks under Supper Collective.

Amazing when we can all work together in the communituy of York.

Many thanks as always to my friend and Superhero Naomi King of Morrisons (Community Champion). Without her help and Morrisons this would not happen.

Please look at Choose 2 Youth FaceBook page and see their posts about the meals and please follow and support them, along with all the other community food banks here in York.

Thank you. John McGall

We kept it fairly low key during the last lockdown, but as soon as businesses had to close again in the last lockdown, lots of amazing businesses came forward to help out the The Supper Collective]
These guys were just one of the independent businesses that stepped up and made some banging meals week in, week out.
Thanks again , bloody amazing ❤️❤️❤️ .

Yes! ❤️❤️❤️

This week we received a lovely email from a junior doctor at the York Hospitals A&E department. If you didn't know, we took part in the Supper Collective mission which aims to distribute free meals to the front line workers at York District Hospital.
We love to receive feedback from our lovely customers, and this one is particularly special to us❤️
P.s. yes, we got permission to share his comments😊

Great work from the team 👊🏼
Also, a great reminder of where your money goes when you donate to the Supper Collective fundraiser. Your money pays for the ingredients that help these young adults learn and progress with their cooking skills. The meals also feed people in the community that need a little extra help. Win Win.

Massive congratulations to everyone involved in the uplifting and vibrant Guardians of York street art trail celebrating the city’s key workers.

Walk around York and see if you can find all 11, or head to the now empty Boots on Coppergate, which has been transformed into a gallery of all the artworks.

A special shout out to Julia and Steve Holding, owners of The Pig And Pastry and founders of Supper Collective who were also nominated for a York's Lockdown Heroes plaque last summer for their community action delivering meals to people in need.

The project is presented by Art of Protest Projects and The York BID. It runs until the 9th July so there's plenty of time to head out into York and take a look!

Over the past couple of months, we have been thinking about ways to honour the people who have sacrificed a big part of themselves and their lives to give back to the community during a time of upheaval created by the pandemic.

What started as an idea quickly turned into a concept, and then a plan. What we didn’t imagine happening was the emotion that would pour out from this project and the participants within it. They would come to pull at our heartstrings and make us prouder than ever to deliver a street art production which celebrates key workers.

We sat down with eleven essential workers and asked them to tell their story of how Covid-19 affected their day to day job and life. We were moved by their honesty and transparency. We want to shine a spotlight on these individuals, which represent people in their field all over the world. These are the guardians that have kept this city moving forward, and so we call this project The Guardians of York.

In just three weeks time, the faces of these brave homegrown heroes will splash the city walls of York, where we can all celebrate their hard efforts and achievements.

Together with street artist collective and the amazing support of we have created a visual experience that navigates you through the streets of York where you will be able to spot the guardians on city walls in the form of temporary street art called paste-ups.

We extend our gratitude to all of the hard workers in every city who have stepped up to the challenge of keeping the world moving forward. We’ll keep our masks on, but may we take our hats off to you!

💙🙏🏻 THANK YOU NHS 🙏🏻💙

As you may have already seen, last week we began working with local heroes at Supper Collective and York Collective to contribute to their incredible mission to deliver meals from local businesses to those working tirelessly around the clock at the Emergency Department at York Hospital.

Last week saw indulgent brownies from Melk and tasty mac and cheese from Clucking Oinkswith more SPARK* traders lined up for the weeks to come!

We’re so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing initiative along with many other independent businesses in York. We hope that these deliveries provide some positivity in these difficult times 🙏🏻

Thank you NHS heroes. Your continued strength and persistence is truly inspiring.

Some old friends and some new friends all pitching in to provide our NHS staff with some nourishment and something to look forward to in their break during a really tough day at such a stressful time again. Massive thanks to everyone who has offered to cook and bake (I haven’t had to ask anyone for help, which is lovely) and to the super York Collective boys who are out there in cold and rain, safely delivering to the hospital ❤️
