Solidarity with Weetabix engineers on their sixth day of strikes. With many more people at home eating breakfast during the pandemic profits at Weetabix soared!

They’ve repaid their staff, who kept production going throughout the pandemic with up to £5,000 in cuts on a ‘fire and rehire’ basis!

Strikes every Tuesday and Wednesday are currently planned all through the next two months.

5 million waiting - fund our NHS! 04/09/2021

Wondering what to do about the huge NHS waiting lists? We Own It have a petition demanding the government fund the NHS properly, instead of bringing in more privatisation. You can sign it here: https://weownit.org.uk/act-now/nhs-waiting-lists

Could you survive on £74 a week? 17/07/2021

Unite Community York Branch will be campaigning to Cancel the Cut in Parliament Street York (outside the empty shop next to Barclays Bank) on Monday 19 July 10am-noon. https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/19447997.day-action-york-demand-20-universal-credit-uplift-kept/

Could you survive on £74 a week? Families on Universal Credit are to lose the £20 a week uplift money awarded in April 2020 which represents a 20 reduction in the money to pay…

Great to have the support of Rachael Maskell MP (York Central) for Unite Community's campaign to Cancel the Cut in Universal Credit at the end of September, and to extend the £20 uplift to those on legacy benefits.

Model motion—University of Liverpool industrial action:

This branch notes:
• The disgraceful decision by the University of Liverpool to make Health and Life Science teachers and researchers redundant
• The detrimental effect this will have on student learning
• The devastating impact on staff of losing their jobs during the pandemic
• The determination of UCU Liverpool members to fight for their members

This branch further notes:
• Managers at other universities want to exploit the pandemic to make cuts
• This makes the battle for jobs at Liverpool a dispute of national importance
• It is in the interests of all workers, including us, that UCU Liverpool wins its dispute

This branch resolves:
• To send a message of solidarity to UCU University of Liverpool
• To donate X to their strike fund
• To invite a Liverpool striker to a branch meeting
• To actively support and publicise their strike days and events

🚨SOLIDARITY BRITISH GAS WORKERS🚨

Today, Wednesday 31 March, is British Gas boss Chris O’Shea’s cruel sign or be sacked deadline. Post your solidarity message in the comments below👇👇👇

“British Gas boss Chris O’Shea has put himself forward as the worst kind of bullying boss and he’s done it in the midst of a global pandemic. He has trampled on union rights to get his way and has caused massive distress and anxiety for the British Gas workforce and their families. The use of ‘fire and rehire’ is a callous move that shows utter disregard for the workforce. He is setting a benchmark for others employers to follow suit.

By contrast, the response of GMB members has been an admirable one. In the face of this huge attack they have stood firm in 42 days of strikes taking their message out on pickets and protests to all who would listen to their cause. If O’Shea has set a benchmark in bullying, the British Gas strikers have shown how to deal with bullies by not being cowed and fighting back—of this they should be proud. It will inspire others to do the same.

We applaud their stand and offer our continued solidarity as O’Shea’s cruel 31 March deadline is upon us.”
