Today is National Grief Awareness day. Grief is something that we will all experience at some stage or other. If you are experiencing grief, know that it is ok to feel the way that you do and that if you need it there is support available from organisations like Cruse, The Good Grief Trust and Mind Bereavement Support. For Freemasons there is additional support available by speaking to your Lodge or Provincial Almoner. Let's all take a moment today to think about those that are going through this process now and maybe reach out to check on those that may need support.

Good luck.Freemasons of Yorkshire N&E Ridings

The YNER cycle team are off again on Thursday 29th August to tackle the Coast & Castles long distance ride from Edinburgh to Newcastle.
It’s the 3rd such ride over the past 7 years after the huge successes of the 130 mile Tercentenary Coast to Coast ride in 2017 which was followed up by the much Covid postponed 171 mile Way of the Roses ride in 2022.

Such is the popularity of this upcoming ride that brethren from neighbouring provinces such as Durham and Yorkshire West Riding are jumping on board to be part of the team.

I’m sure you would all join us and wish our 39 riders and 8 support crew a safe journey this coming weekend as they tackle the popular 191 mile cycle challenge.

Ever thought about being part of the team?
Watch for future announcements in the Yorkshire Mason.

The Grand Master Mason, Brother Dr Joseph J. Morrow, in his role as Lord Lyon, greeted His Majesty King Charles and Her Majesty Queen Camilla on their arrival at Edinburgh Castle on Wednesday 3rd July.

The Royal Couple were in the city as part of their official stay in Scotland and were greeted by Brother Morrow, who summoned the Garrison to open the gates to the King and present the Keys to the Castle.

The Lord Provost, city councillor Robert Aldridge, then presented the keys on a red velvet cushion, which the King symbolically touched.

Ahead of the ceremony, the garden of the Palace of Holyroodhouse was transformed into a parade ground where the King met senior military and uniformed figures, including Police Scotland Chief Constable Jo Farrell, before receiving a royal salute and inspecting a guard of honour of soldiers from Balaklava Company, 5 Scots.

Also lined up were the Royal Company of Archers, who serve as the sovereign's ceremonial bodyguard for Scotland, a role first created in 1822 for King George IV.

Several distinguished Freemasons are members of the Royal Company of Archers, including Past Grand Masters, Brother J.M. Marcus Humphrey of Dinnet, Brother Sir Archibald D. Orr Ewing, and Brother Charles Iain Robert Wolrige Gordon of Esslemont, along with Past Substitute Grand Master, Brother Alexander C.G. Moncrieff.

Service is one of the four guiding principles in Freemasonry. Whether participating in events, fundraising for a charitable cause or volunteering for public or community organisations, service, or charity, is at the very heart of Freemasonry.

What does charity mean to you?

📻 Jason of Lincolnshire Freemasons has joined the group of volunteers producing North Lincolnshire’s Talking Newspaper for hundreds of listeners! He joins Charles Bratton, who started as a newsreader and now supports the charity as a trustee.

Every two weeks, the Talking Newspaper records news, features, and information for those who are visually impaired or prefer audio. Stuart Pearcey, a Scunthorpe Freemason and newsreader says, "the benefit to listeners far outweighs the time involved in reading, and it’s really rewarding to get involved with something that’s been providing a public service for more than 40 years."
