Menfulness
An inclusive social community for men in York. Check on your mates! #DontManUpSpeakUp
Meet two of our special guests for next month's ***dePreventionDay Live Podcast event we are hosting in New Earswick.
Victoria Taylor and Alex Lancaster from the Charlie Dallas Lancaster Foundation will be joining us in person to share how their experiences have changed their lives and driven their charity work, as we further our conversation about su***de: One of the most important, yet least discussed subjects in society.
We know this is a challenging topic, but we can promise this will be a safe, relaxed, welcoming environment where we will look to further our understanding together. Thanks to the kind funding from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation we can bring you entry to the event and food at a price you can afford (free if you need it).

The Menfulness Podcast Live: World Su***de Prevention Day
Join us in conversation about one of the most important yet most stigmatised subjects in society.
Su***de Prevention is everyoneโs business with 1 in 5 people experiencing suicidal thoughts at some point in our lives. With 16 per day in the UK taking their own lives and over two thirds being men, we owe it to each other to understand this subject much more, so that we can feel comfortable talking about it and look after those around us.
Whilst we are aware that this can be a triggering subject for some, we also recognise that avoiding the subject is part of the problem. We intend to have a positive and hopeful conversation where we can learn from some of the people who are the closest to the subject.
Mental Health First Aiders and several ASIST su***de trained volunteers will be supporting this event.
Thanks to the generous funding by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation we can offer this event and a meal for only ยฃ5. We never want finances to be a barrier and so several tickets have been made available free of charge for those who need them.
We hope you will join us for in conversation over a meal at this beautiful New Earswick Folk Hall, built by Joseph Rowntree over a hundred years ago to bring communities together, which it still does wonderfully today โค๏ธ

"Hi, i'm Karl. Over the last couple of years, Menfulness is a charity that has helped me personally. Through funding from Menfulness, I received counselling to process the birth of my daughter which was a tough and traumatic journey.
Through events such as their 5 a-side Football, Breakfast Club and Running Club, I have met others in a similar position to me which has helped me to feel less lonely and isolated and more understood.
I now consider Menfulness like a family and through the various WhatsApp chat groups, have instant support at the end of every message.
Any donations both big and small are welcome to fund counselling for other men who may find themselves struggling in the future."
Could you support Karl's fundraising by donating to our charity? We can guarantee you that every penny is spent on counselling or reaching out to men who need support.
"My name is Mike. Im doing the 10k in August with Menfulness.
Im 49 years old and have been a chef for years over 30 now. The hospitality industry is notorious for poor mental health and physical health. I was always working, rapidly becoming unhealthy turning to alcohol, my daily eating habits were all over the place. I was supporting my family but not really myself, and so the spiral to poor self esteem began!
I knew it was time for the change after my health started to become worse, and especially my mental health. The realisation I was no longer 21 set in! I joined a local over 40s mens gym and here I am, 18 months in now, and in that time i have been going from strength to strength, both physically (completing total warrior mud run with a bunch of likeminded guys in June) but also mentally (running the 10k with another group of likeminded guys to bring attention to menโs mental health).
I want to continue to show that anything is achievable. I will continue to push myself and break the stigma of middle age and help give a voice to those who maybe struggle silently!"
Please support Mike's fundraising by donating to our charity, we can guarantee you that every penny is spent on counselling or reaching out to men who need it.
GAME ON!
Come along and join Rob tonight from 18:30 for a fun free games night at the Holy Redeemer Hall on Boroughbridge Road. Expect nice people, a relaxed vibe, hot drinks and biscuits available. There's always plenty of games on hand but feel free to bring your own faves if you'd like. No pressure to talk about your problems unless you want to, but as always permission is there if you do.
Your move!

THANK YOU! We put a post out last week that we needed some extra runners and in just a few days have now filled up our goal of 30 runners for this spectacular event.
We will all be in white t shirts, raising funds and awareness for men's mental health. We do so in the same way we support each other - One step at a time, each at our own pace.
We'd love people to come along on the day to support us along the route, at our cheer station (Campleshon Road/Bishy Road corner) or at our gazebo at the event village! Visit our JustGiving page if you can send us a few quid and get us to our total and we will ensure every penny is spent on helping blokes in York improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

Meet Our Sponsor: Clement Leadership Development
Ahead of our BIG York 10k event with over 50 runners and volunteers, we're speaking to Will from Clement Leadership Development to hear about what they do and why they chose to sponsor us for this event?
1 - Can you describe what your business does in one sentence and what makes you stand our from other businesses in the same field?
At Clement Leadership Development, we specialise in coaching, leadership and people development solutions for individuals and organisations, which is delivered by a team who have a wealth of practical real-world experience from public, private and charitable organisations.
2 - What is it about Menfulness that made you feel that supporting us is the right thing for you/your business?
One of the key areas of our organisation is executive coaching which is a confidential 1-2-1 safe space for individuals to talk about issues and ambitions that are personal to them. We believe this aligns with the invaluable work that Menfulness are providing - bringing men together to talk and let off steam in a friendly and supportive environment.
3 - How would you say your own experiences or your companies values align with the values of Menfulness?
One of our three key values is inclusivity - treating people fairly and equally - making sure people feel valued and respected no matter who they are, or where they are from.
4 - What is coming up for your business? - Do you have anything you'd like to share with people that's getting you excited?
Later in the year, weโre introducing bitesize learning for busy individuals and organisations on the move. This will be an opportunity to take an hour out of the working day, to engage in personal learning and reflection. Weโre also looking to introduce walking coaching which is proven to have a powerful effect on physical, mental and emotional health โ it also allows individuals to organise their thoughts.
If you'd like to donate towards our cause, check out the comments for the link to our fundraising page!
BOXING FITNESS UPDATE: The monthly boxing sessions will be taking a summer break over the next few months and will be back in a new format in September. We will communicate details nearer the time.
How've you bean?
If you've got something brewing, then come and let off some steam with us - This Weds 1PM.
Look at what the oar-some people at Fenton Simpson Financial Services Ltd did at the weekend!
We're chuffed to bits they chose us as one of their charities to fundraise for alongside SASH and The Nikki Waterhouse Trust by entering a team into the York Rotary, UK Dragon Boat Race!
Go and give their post a like or pop a few quid their way if you can. Thanks to all who took part! ๐
