TOSCANA BIANCA, 2021.

Grape: Procanico - a rare Tuscan grape variety.
Region: Tuscany, Italy.

This orange wine is a beautiful golden amber in the glass, a result of its 15 days maceration on the skins. The nose is wild and enticing, with herbaceous aromas. On the palette there are forest floor notes, plus ripe stone fruits and a hint of apricot. It's got good body and that typical skin-contact funky edge, whilst retaining an overall freshness that'll satisfy both orange wine connoisseurs & first-timers.

Meet the Team!

Lorna has been a Howl fixture for almost two years now, and we couldn't do it without her. She's everyone's favourite burst of energy! You can find her behind the bar changing the playlist to 90s R'n'B or 70s classics.
The cork wall (which is almost finished!!) has been a labour of love for Lorna...whether she loves or hates it depends on the day and whether she's cutting corks into 5mm slices...

Novemberlot, 2022.

Grape: Merlot, Viognier, Ugni Blanc.
Region: Ardèche, France.

This red has a bit of a story behind it! You may have noticed it's a blend of grapes, including white grapes. This is due to many of the vineyards grapes being lost following a freak hailstorm in June 2021. Inexplicably by November of the same year the white vines had a rarely-seen second budding, producing some small bunches of Viognier and Ugni Blanc.
The wine makers, Meryl & Geraldine Croizier, took it as a consolation for the earlier losses, and added it to the 2021 Merlot they had previously been able to harvest. This, in turn, was then added to the wine from 2019 that had been resting in tank, making for a truly unique non-vintage special.

It had notes of plummy, deep black fruits, herbs, and spices. With powdery tannins, and an undercurrent of black liquorice and fennel.

Bubbly and hardworking, you'll see them behind the bar or on the floor. Ally loves making cocktails, whilst Al is the cleaning whizz of the team! Our cool Gen Z duo, they're both on the Uni Cheer team together and have put (beautifully written) notes all over the bar! As they would say "Slay 💅🏻".

RESERVE DE GASSAC BLANC, 2023.

Viognier & Marsanne from Languedoc, France.

This dry, clean white wine is very easy-drinking, with stone fruit & pear notes and a soft, buttery mouth feel. It's rounded, with floral aromas and subtle hints of herbs.

Tomato Bruschetta using our own homegrown tomatoes!

You may have noticed the giant plants working their way up the wall in our courtyard over summer - all thanks to Mumma Howl of course! Well, they've finally made it to the menu (we may have kept pinching them off the vines and eating them ourselves...🤫)

These tomatoes are truly delicious, so we thought we'd let them shine through this simple small plate dish, seasoned with only salt, pepper, fresh parsley and a drizzle of oil. Come get it before it's gone, limited quantities of the tomatoes available!! (Until the rest are ripe)

Our favourite rosé Pet Nat!

The 2023 vintage has notes of underripe strawberry, bramble berries, and a touch of rhubarb.

It's dry, clean, and zippy with a great freshness.

We've only got a few bottles of this in, so make the most of the long weekend and pop down to see us.

ANTICA ENOTRIA BIANCO, 2022.

Made from organic Fiano & Falanghina grapes in Puglia, Italy.

This golden & aromatic white is crispy yet nicely textured, with notes of fresh citrus fruits and hints of mango and tropical fruits.
It's beautifully fragrant, with light floral and subtle pear aromas.

It's dry, very easy going, well-balanced, and fresh! Cheers!

Howl's Bloody Mary!

Our latest cocktail special had been two weeks in the making! Using our own infused vodka and our homemade Bloody Mary mix (which includes the tomatoes you might have seen growing in our sun-trap courtyard!).
Then topped with tomato juice, Lea & Perrin's, Tobasco, black pepper and all the wonderful garnishes including our Gordal olives (best in York 😉).

Perfect start to the weekend...or hair of the dog 😉 limited run & limited Howl vodka! So come get one quick whilst the sun is shining.

COSMIC, 2020.

Muscat of Alexandria - One of the oldest grape varieties that has had the least modification throughout the years!
Catalonia, Spain.

This aromatic orange spends 3 weeks on the skins, creating a textured but soft wine that boasts notes of jasmine and peaches, and aromas of orange blossom.

Fresh, a little funky, and Fragrant. A good choice for both orange wine lovers and newbies, it's a great introduction as it's on the sweeter side of things.

Join us for a candlelit summer evening with The Jazzville Trio playing 8pm-10pm.

MAREMOSSO, 2022.

A great introduction into orange wines if you're not familiar with them, the Marremosso is made from Catarratto grapes that undergo only a couple of weeks of skin contact, resulting in a pale orange colour that you could mistake for a white wine!

This Sicilian orange is dry, medium-bodied ,and pretty easy-going, with a rich, pithy fruit character, and notes of savoury herbs, ginger, and spices!

Bottled with low sulphur and no filtration.

Pairs beautifully with fish curries, pasta, and sardines.

Wine for Positive Change...KAMPTAL KOLLEKTIV, 2022.

This red is made from a blend of grapes from farmers in Kamptal, Austria who joined together with Newcomer Wines in a project for positive change!

The project was focused on enabling local growers to convert to organic & regenerative farming, and supporting the local farmers & grapes.

It has notes of cherry & raspberry plus a lifted rose hip twist. It's an easy-drinking, medium-bodied bottle, with a great story of collaboration behind it!

It can be served chilled or room temp.
