Happy Monday everyone!

It’s finally starting to feel a bit more spring like and we couldn’t resist these lovely flowers. It’s also just under two weeks until Mother’s Day, if you’re stuck for ideas then a bottle of something lovely is a great idea as you can maybe get to share and enjoy it too!

We have a selection of lovely new wines which have some really beautiful labels, and would make the perfect Mother’s Day gift.

🍷 FEBRUARY COUNTRY OF THE MONTH 🍷

This month it's France, and it's probably the country most likely to be associated with wine. Probably unsurprising as France is one of the biggest wine producers in the world, producing around 7-8 billion bottles of wine a year, and produces an incredibly diverse selection of wine.

From the famous Cru Classes in Bordeaux, Roses from Provence, table wines produced throughout the country, wines from the Loire Valley, to the most famous sparkling wine in the world - Champagne, it's fair to say that France has got most wines covered.

We have a fabulous selection of French wines in our portfolio, the majority of which we import directly from the producers. Our February Wine Wednesday will be a 'Tour de France' and we will be taking a closer look at some of our favourite imports.

In the meantime, let us know your French favourites, and if you're looking for something special for Valentine's Day, you know where we are!

And we’re back! Kicking off our 2024 Wine Wednesdays with No, Low and Light (and a little detour for some bonus bottles!).

The theme was met with a little wariness, but I think it’s fair to say that it (and the wines!) went down very well.

February Wine Wednesday will be a ‘Tour de France’ on 28th February, and we look forward to seeing you then.

Kicking off our new country of the month series with Austria.

Think of Austria,and you might think ski-ing, mountains, cow bells and the Von Trapp family. Wine almost certainly isn’t top of the list.

The 1980s antifreeze scandal didn’t help along with the grape varieties being pretty difficult to pronounce.

Following the scandal, many producers repositioned their offer, targeting a higher market segment and returning to traditional production methods and focusing on producing really quality wines from classic grape varieties.

Styles became drier, to put distance between new wines and the previously tampered with offerings.

Grüner Veltliner began to develop a global following, thanks to striking herbaceous notes, pepperiness, and the other wines, such as Riesling evolved with authentically different sweetness levels.

An interesting fact - the volume of Austian wine exported in 2022, at 68.2 million litres, was a little less than in 2002; the value of this wine, however, was nearly four times greater (€232m against €60m). Austrian wine has arrived.

There is exceptional value to be had from quality-conscious producers who are helping to rebuild local reputation. We have some fantastic Austrian wines in stock, in particular, the range from Sonnen Mulde.

We’ll be looking at this range in more detail when we do our first Producer Profile next week, in the meantime, Prost!

January can be a bit of a long and dreary month, but we're helping to brighten it up with our January Sale. Another highlight of having Martine & Michel from with us last month, was that they were able to meet their namesake, in the equine form – Alex’s ‘SSF Apollonis’, known as Fizz to his friends!

Although he wasn’t in the mood for posing….!! 🐴🐴
