York music and arts venue to get major upgrade The Arts Barge is back! A summer season of amazing shows is set to raise the funds for the next phase of work on the floating community arts project.

York Bike Belles have launched an exciting NEW project for people and nature in York.

Join them over the Summer on a nature ride! Running every Tuesday lunchtime at 12.30pm from the Millennium Bridge, Fulford.

Get closer to nature, get some gentle exercise, relax and feel happier and healthier, have fun learning, meet new people, and enjoy life more!

Major milestone in £50million student flats scheme Ground has been broken on the site of the former Rialto Cinema in Fishergate, York for the construction of hundreds of student flats.

"The Environment Agency said it requires a site plan, environment and flood risk assessment, technical drawings and other documents from the City of York Council."
This was all supposed to happen while the EA flood works were being done, so that the project could go ahead in summer 2022 as soon as the Clementhorpe flood works on Terry Ave were finished. . Then it was delayed until this year, and now the EA say that they still havent been given the plans!
Time to press your councillors to see some action, given that the funds for this have been identified but costs will keep rising.

Could you help keep your street safe in ice and snow this winter? 'Snow wardens' get provided with a stock of grit to put down on slopes and public paths when ice is forecast. Training in Fishergate has been planned for this Thursday Nov 23rd open to any local residents, contact [email protected] to attend this session or follow the link below for other training sessions. There's no charge and you only do as much as you can around other family commitments. 'Training' is just basics of health + safety to allow you to be included on council liability insurance.

If you were visiting other major tourist towns and cities wouldn't expect such a key city centre open space to be locked up during the daylight in summer time. 6pm is far too early to close on a summer's evening, maybe they need a few more open air events and performances to fund the staffing that would be needed?

Your local police team will be property marking at Fulford Cross Allotments on Thursday 22nd June from 6-7pm
They will be marking tools, bikes, laptops, phones, sport equipment and any other property, as well as offering crime prevention advice. Come and meet the team and have a chat with about any issues.

Nicola Ward got some amazing work done to tackle the rather neglected appearance of New Walk recently. Hopefully this will also inspire more pride in the area and renewed activity by local residents group Friends of New Walk.
