Starting this week, we will add a nominal donation of HK$1 to dinner checks to support ’s mission to combat food waste and scarcity in our city. Through Black Sheep Family Fund, we commit to match every dollar donated, reinforcing the crucial work they do for our industry and community at large.

As hospitalitiers, we believe in feeding people, not landfills. Our partnership with Feeding Hong Kong offers us the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in this greater ecosystem we are a part of through a shared mission to reduce food waste in our city.

We have been supporting Feeding Hong Kong since 2020 through a number of activations, including hot meal deliveries to the elderly, hosting community gatherings for their beneficiary charities, Bread Run takeovers and gala events.

We thank you for your generous support as we strive to make meaningful change in our community and a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Someone said to us recently that you do not “retain” a MICHELIN Star; you win it every year.

That resonates with us because at Black Sheep, spots are earned every day. For all members of our team, at every level, the scoreboard gets reset every morning.

It is a relentless, and often thankless pursuit, so we want to make space to say how proud we are that this group went out to Macau yesterday and took home MICHELIN Stars for their work at BELON and New Punjab Club.

Winning a Star for the fifth time, BELON’s dedication to precise technique and exceptional ingredients has put our Pearl of SoHo on the map year after year. The incredibly talented Chef Matthew Kirkley has passed the baton to Chef Jacob Zuidervliet, who has masterfully made this restaurant his own, and we know his story here has only just begun.

At New Punjab Club, Chef Palash Mitra and Chef Chhabil Sidhu, as well as Chef Tara Mehta, continue to push boundaries and shed light on the complexities of Punjabi cuisine. Our boisterous tandoor grillhouse has won its Star for the sixth year straight, and it is humbling and heartwarming to see the passion and belief in what we do there recognised in the eyes of MICHELIN.

Thank you to MICHELIN, thank you to our incredible chefs and teams on the front lines and thank you to you, the guests, who have stood behind us and supported us night after night for making this recognition possible.

But today is a new day. The scoreboard reads zero. And it is time to get back to work.

Unsanctioned post alert 🚨 (might delete later). We were instructed not to make a fuss about 's birthday this year, but we have decided to orchestrate this mini-mutiny to celebrate the fearless leader of this flock, because nobody deserves it more. Plus, Asim always says it is better to ask for forgiveness than for permission, ergo we are just following orders by totally not following orders.

So many happy returns to you, the captain of the good ship Black Sheep, as you continue to navigate this merry crew through all kinds of storms with dignity, grace and so much heart.

You are truly one in a million, an ever-swirling force of contradictory qualities — kind and courageous, passionate yet grounded, creative but driven… and today, both very angry yet secretly delighted we told everyone that it is your birthday?

We love you, Asim. Happy birthday.

Haider, as we mark your 40th trip around the sun, we honour the steadiness and wisdom you bring to our world. In an industry where chaos reigns and the unexpected often becomes the norm, you, dear Haider, have been our lighthouse, guiding us through storms with a calmness that belies the tempest while managing our business with the precision of a chess master.

Your journey back to your home city of Hong Kong to stand shoulder to shoulder with your younger brother Asim, and all the trouble he has brought you since you were just young boys, is proof positive of the unwavering loyalty and dedication you possess. Not just for family, but for the very ethos of Black Sheep.

So we raise a toast to Haider, the quiet force behind the scenes, the brother who is always there, the teammate who steadies the ship. You are the unsung hero of our stories and the brother many of us wish we had.

And because we know you appreciate the simple pleasures of life, and just to embarrass you further, we picked three simple joys from three of your favourites: find them at Burger Circus, Messina and Butter Cookies all this month.

Happy birthday.

“HFC Zinger”: A “zinged up” version of Haider’s favourite go-to chicken sandwich, packed with mayo, garlic chili sauce and lettuce. Make it a combo with Old Bay fries and pink lemonade.

“Pocky Full of Sunshine”: Gianduia gelato layered with whipped cream and dark chocolate-coated pocky biscuits.

“Slim Haidy”: A chocolate cookie with heaps of M&M candies and caramel chocolate chips.

As we welcome the year of the dragon, we also want to welcome you, our community, to join us at the Black Sheep Team Canteen.

At Black Sheep, we are passionate about the power of a shared meal to bring people together, foster connections and make even the coldest days a little cosier. The Canteen is where all of us come so we can ensure our work family *is* properly taken care of.

Usually only for team members, the daily dishes are made by our talented roster of chefs (swipe to see what is cooking) but in the spirit of the holidays we are throwing open the doors to anyone and everyone who would like to join us. Whether you are away from family and want to celebrate with ours, need an escape from your family (because real talk - not all families are fun to be around), or you just want to come and see what the Canteen is like, swing by! Bring a friend or roll solo.

Meals are complementary but we will also accept donations at the door as part of our Family Fund and our ongoing partnership with Feeding Hong Kong.

Wishing you a joyous Lunar New Year. See you at Team Canteen.

Today we honour you , thank you for eleven years of kindness, care and cooking from the heart. We love you.

We have come a long way since the beginning and nobody knows this better than Chef Gizzy who was Black Sheep’s very first cook at our very first restaurant. In those days after long nights of service, Chef Gizzy would make the team her soul nourishing Sri Lankan curries and everyone would agree that she needed her own restaurant. It took a few years but was born from those late night team meals.

Put simply, to know Chef Gizzy is to love her. Her Sri Lankan hospitality just sparkles. If you are anywhere near her kitchen there is always something incredible that you have to try, Chef Gizzy always has a smile for you. She makes everything look easy.

And if you have not experienced the magic of Chef Gizzy there are still a few spots for next week’s Crab Club collaboration with the inimitable

Stop everything! Because today, everyone’s favourite black sheep officially turns silver fox - Happy 40th Birthday !

Tony you have been the flag bearer for so much positive change in our world, always leading with dignity, humility but most importantly, love.

We are so proud to have a leader like you to be a friend, a brother and a mentor to so many of us. You make any situation better with a cheeky smile and a cheesy joke, any catastrophe is lighter once you are in the mix.

It is hard to find the words to express how grateful we are for all your kindness, joy and grace so we will just say - thank you, we love you.

Wishing you nothing but smiles for your 40th dance around the sun.

Kudos to our very own pizzaiola, Chef for being included in this year's from . This achievement is a shining example of how excellence can be found in even the most humble of endeavours - such as making pizza - but doing it really, really well.

As we look towards the future of our neighbourhood pizzeria, having just celebrated a decade of this past weekend, we continue to look for ways to inspire our city with our love and dedication for the Neapolitan art of pizza making, and this recognition is a testament not only to Chef Roberta and the Motorino team's unwavering determination, commitment and tenacity but also to their roles as custodians of our work and of this culinary tradition.

Photos from Black Sheep Restaurants's post 21/09/2023

Motorino first opened its doors in the heart of SoHo right off the escalators in 2013 and has since then changed Hong Kong’s pizza landscape with its Neapolitan-style pies; its signature blistered edges and malleable centre introduced the traditional art of pizza-making to the city.

This weekend, we are singing 'Tanti Auguri' to a decade of Motorino with a one-night-only celebratory menu on Friday and our first-ever Pizza Bake-Off competition, a twist on our much-loved Pizza Making Party, on Saturday.

Join us for an evening of pizza and vino as we celebrate Hong Kong's Original Pizzeria Napoletana.

Today, we celebrate a decade working alongside ; one of the very first to put his trust in us and to believe in this crazy thing that we were trying to do.

Since stepping into our world, he has become emblematic for the type of hospitality that we give and was an integral part of building the framework of our vibrant SoHo community.

It is this framework that has grown and flourished to represent the kind of hospitality experience that guests seek out now at over 35 restaurants. Since then, he has been a true ambassador for Black Sheep both here in our home city and when he has been charged with introducing new guests to our stories, from Shanghai to Saudi to London and beyond.

We have come a long way together, Jon.
These foundations are strong because of the time, dedication, and love you put into helping shape our work, our people, and because of the constant growth you have challenged yourself with.

Thank you, and we look forward to our continued journey together.

This past Sunday marked the final night of our pop-ups in London. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to showcase our hospitality values and share two of our most beloved stories with the guests who joined us.

From welcoming in old friends and making new ones with of and Chef of to full dining rooms of guests looking to experience our boisterous tandoor grillhouse and our signature take on Cantonese cuisine, this was only the first chapter in bringing the Black Sheep story to the next city.

From our friends at and to the guests who joined us every night, thank you to everyone who brought these stories to life. Here are a few of our favourite memories from the last few weeks.

Stay tuned for more about our upcoming plans in 2024.

This July, we are taking two of our most loved stories halfway across the globe as and Chef take on London with and pop-ups at . We have been teasing our London friends for a long time, and finally, the process is starting.

Kicking things off, Chef Palash is igniting the tandoors and bringing our proud, unapologetic Punjabi cuisine to a new city with a curated menu featuring defining dishes from the six-year journey of our boisterous MICHELIN-starred tandoor grillhouse. From 17 through 26 July, Londoners can enjoy all the heritage and history of this often underrepresented cuisine with hearty dishes that centre around the heart of the cuisine: the tandoor.

Starting 27 July through 5 August, Chef ArChan and her Ho Lee F**k crew are taking the reins and serving a crafted selection of her vibrant Cantonese cuisine. Having left an undeniable mark on the city we call home, she is ready to introduce London to her bold, sophisticated and forward-thinking take on Cantonese classics, all made with Hong Kong heart.

Today, another page in the Black Sheep history book was written.

After the last few disappointing losses and second place finishes, for the first time ever, we brought home two gold trophies with some of the fastest times of the day.

Dragon Boat is our values in motion - it is us at our best - and we are so proud of this year's team because they showed up the only way we know how: they played big and put it all on the line with a zeal and zest definitive of our values.

Congratulations to the Cheeseburgers and Hot Fudge Sundaes. Today's result shows us that our tomorrows are truly bright - we just have to continue fighting for them.

23 & 24 June:

Today, the boys and girls in the black and gold took to the water for the first Dragon Boat races of the season. While the warm-up races did not go our way, they showed up, they played big, and they represented our values and our community.

There is no time to dwell when things dont go your way. The Cheeseburgers will be back on the water next week, honing their technique and practising for the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival on 22 June, where they will chase for victory with even more fire and spirit.

Thank you to all of those who showed up and supported the team today. We will see you next time.

Service has always been at the heart of who we are and what we do, and the cornerstone of that has always been our community.

Today, we were proud to have our Founder sitting alongside Founder Gabrielle Kirstein to announce the formalisation of the Black Sheep Family Fund and our 2-year partnership with Feeding Hong Kong.

While the Family Fund's initial focus was internal to provide financial support to our team, we know that community is about more than just those within our charge. It is the greater ecosystem we are a part of and the place that we call home: our Hong Kong community.

As we turn our focus outward, we have selected Feeding Hong Kong as our very first Charity Partner and have committed to providing HK$3 million in the next two years, with the hope that driving all our efforts in a single direction will have more impact.

We want to work with people who want to change the world, and we know that the work Feeding Hong Kong does resonates with that message. This is just the beginning of our relationship.

As the week ends, one thing rings truer now than ever before: for some people, words just are not enough.

This week, we struggled to find the right way to capture the magic, spirit, and purpose that Tony Ferreira has brought to our community over the last 10 years.

Really, the only thing to say is: Thank you, Tony, for calling us home.

From chef and coach to Dragon Boat Captain and personal cheerleader for our young leaders (and, at times, the rest of us who need it), Tony's heart, personality and optimism are fundamental to what we do. He has long been a core pillar of our team, holding strong through the bad times, the good times, and the great ones.

He has taken everything that has come his way with such grace and humility, and no one is more capable of taking on the task at hand or more deserving of all the joy and prosperity we know is headed his way.

It is Tony who continues to teach us how to take the highs and the lows in stride and how to keep pushing forward, knowing that around the corner are brighter tomorrows and bigger challenges. Ones that will take us farther down this road that we continue to pave together towards our shared destiny.

There is a special sort of magic that comes alive when Tony is around, and his light is one that shines like a beacon in our community, bringing with it a warmth and genuine care that carries us through the hardships and makes our joys and successes just that much brighter.

, we could not have gotten this far without you. Here is to where we go next together.

30/03/2023

This weekend, we are thrilled to welcome Chef Mariano Ramón of Buenos Aires' to our boisterous tandoor grillhouse for three days of culinary magic.

With a shared love and dedication for the diverse culinary traditions found throughout India, and Chef Mariano have spent their careers casting a light on the underrepresented cuisine.

Five years ago, the powerhouse chefs struck up a friendship on social media, having found a mutual respect for each others work and a shared ethos and passion for creativity balanced with tradition.

Now, they join together in the kitchen for an explorative showcase of the flavours and artistry created when a cusine captures your heat.

As the curtains on our city part and we look towards a brighter tomorrow with hearts full of joy and curiosity for the opportunities ahead of us, we raise a glass to you, our fearless leader. To your unwavering commitment to us, your dedication for telling the stories that will continue to shape the future of hospitality and your passion for this thing you have built, our community.

As so many things have done in the past few years, we have grown, and we have changed. Luckily, we have done so together and we have seen that no matter how stormy the seas become or how cloudy the day, you will continue to lead us on the journey, steering the way towards our North Star, challenging us and propelling us forward.

We are so happy that after a long wait, we are finally able to celebrate once again with you in the way you have missed most - together, as a community.

Happy birthday,

Photos from Black Sheep Restaurants's post 05/03/2023

A community is only as strong as its core. At the heart of everything we have accomplished are the handful that have stuck with us and believed in our journey from the start.

For some, the recognition of their hard work may have been a bit quieter than for others, but they are no less important or integral to our story. They are the ones in the team whose stalwart dedication and commitment to this crazy thing we do are the only reason we stand here today, and they have become a linchpin in our community and of our successes.

We wish the happiest of birthdays to you, Jonathan. You have traversed this road alongside us for ten years now, and we know in our hearts we would not be here without you. Those of us who work alongside you day in and day out know that although you sometimes seem a little grumpy or pessimistic, it comes from a place of true care, concern and passion for the people around you.

You have paved our path on the front lines and shaped our brand of hospitality with charm, defining what it means to have a Black Sheep experience. Without you, the hospitality we give, the guests, and the community we have built would not be what they are today.

Ten years ago, you were making fun of Dragon Boat. Now, after just one season, you are the first to ask when we can all get back on the water? How things have changed. And many things have done just that, changed.

But as we have become a bit more classy and refined all around, you have grown with us, pushing yourself past the challenges and carrying others along with you. But of course, there are some things that will never change, you still have the best hair in the city.

There is really only one thing to say: Jon. we love you.

On Monday night, we opened the doors to our Team Canteen to welcome in a community of guests who were looking to join us in supporting relief efforts in Turkey and Syria.

We started out with a goal of raising $50,000HKD for a meaningful impact on the ground, and we are so proud to share that in one night, we raised $100,000HKD and counting. We will keep donations open online until Friday 3 March.

While we have shortlisted a few charities, we are still open to recommendations from those of you who have a connection to the region. We will be sending the money raised to charities who can have a real-world impact on those affected by the disaster. Please DM us with your suggestions.

Monday showed us what can be done when people come together for a cause, through food and a shared love for stories.

Lively and animated, Nina's infectious energy and positivity lift up those around her, and her dedication and drive make her a force of nature within our leadership team.

As Head of Guest Relations, she is at the heart of the team defining what our world-class guest experience looks like and helping to create the future of hospitality excellence. For Nina, her role is more than just a job; she gives the same care and consideration to guests that she would give her family, a trait that makes her sincerity stand out.

Before joining us, she lent her passion to teaching kindergarteners, and it is with the same curiosity and open-hearted approach that she saw in her classroom that she brings to her role every day.

From the start, Nina impressed with her commitment to teamwork and ability to inspire those around her. A talented writer, she makes the written word look effortless and is key to crafting our stories.

Always first to help out, she was all in when she transitioned from Communications to our Guest Experience team, bringing the same warmth and tenderness from her years of teaching to her team and our guests.

For Nina, everything exists in a state of duality; you cannot understand anything without looking at its complementary opposition - and this is how she lives her life. With a balanced, diplomatic approach to the world, she is on a constant journey for growth and knowledge. But most importantly, she makes sure to shine a little light on our world with joy and, of course, a little dancing.

Managing Director Marc Hofmann says, "Nina is incredibly dynamic. She leads her team with a passion, positivity, and vibrancy that establishes her as a role model, not only amongst her team but other leaders within our community." he continues, "What I admire about Nina is that there is nothing too big for her - she gives 100%, and that will always be successful."

We are lucky to have a kindred spirit like Nina on the team, who shares our energy and ethos. Not only does Nina dream big, but she does the work to get there with passion and heart.

On 6 February 2023, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria, leaving destruction and devastation in its wake throughout the region. It has since left more than 40,000 dead, and thousands more deeply impacted by the ripples of destruction.

Spearheading the efforts to raise $50,000HKD, Chef and are joining hands for a one-off dinner at our Team Canteen on Monday 20 February.

Share in a warm meal lovingly prepared by the two powerhouse chefs at a suggested donation of $500HKD per guest, with all proceeds raised on the evening going towards the relief efforts in the region.

With millions of survivors struggling to find food and shelter from the bitter cold and the death toll rising as Emergency Responders continue rescue efforts, every donation as some 26 million people across the two regions look for assistance counts.

While only a drop in the bucket, it is a concrete first step towards making an impact. For those of our community who call the region home, it is an opportunity to take action on the ground in Hong Kong that will have a real-world impact on their communities back in Turkey and Syria.

We are currently liaising with contacts on the ground to decide on the best and most meaningful channels to send funds. Donations will benefit organisations who can maximize their existing on–the-ground networks to deliver aid quickly and efficiently to those affected.

Reservations can be made via the link in bio. Donations will be accepted online soon for those who would like to contribute but unable to attend the dinner.

We are so proud of our team at Butter. From the little cake shop that could all the way to our newest sweet story, Butter Cookies, it has come further than we ever imagined.

With an archive of over 70 cakes, pies, and sweet treats, Butter has become more than just the place to pick up indulgenent treats for a special occasion; it is a lifestyle. Butter is in the business of happiness, and they are spreading joy every day.

At the forefront of Butter's evolution are Group Pastry Chef Karys Plaxe and her talented team - Daphne, Natalie, and Helen. These ladies are behind Butter's beloved creations, leading the charge one made-from-scratch slice, and now handful, at a time.

Having warmed hearts and satisfied sweet tooths city-wide, our favourite bake shop is now proudly serving its freshly-baked, classic all-American cookies at Pacific Place, made with a lot of love, and butter, of course.
