2021 was a moderate and dry growing season. With full ripeness and very good acidity, 2021 wines in the region ultimately resemble 2018 in concentration and 2014–2017 in size. Drier vintages bless us with reduced disease pressures and generally picture-perfect fruit clusters. This vintage for 00 Wines strikes the perfect balance between body and elegance.

Grape clusters are destemmed by hand at the pedicel, leaving the berry intact. Whole berries are placed in 500L terra cotta amphorae imported from tuscany, where they spontaneously ferment from the inside out with indigenous yeast. after primary fermentation. For this vintage we experimented with whole cluster fermentation in concrete, which is 1/3% of wine. juice is pressed off into french oak barrels, remaining there for 18 months.

“Black Chardonnay Method” Pre-press foot crush and overnight skin contact followed by long press cycle for maximum phenolic extraction. No sulfites added to the press pan and juice immediately goes into barrel. 12 months in barrel on the lees, no bâtonnage. 6 months finished in stainless steel on the fine lees.

Beautiful intense crimson colour, with a purple rim. The nose initially presents aromas of fresh fruits (blackcurrant, plum, cherry), associated to a slight empyreumatic note that is kind of woody and well-integrated (cedar, vanilla, cacao). There are also hints of spice (clove). The attack, full and round, is followed by a strong palate with dense tannins. The tight tannic structure and natural acidity impart an interesting vivacity and freshness to this wine, leading to a good aftertaste with fruit.

The passion for wine that runs in the French branch of the Rothschild family was born in 1868 when James de Rothschild purchased Chateau Lafite. His great-grandson, Edmond de Rothschild, began a new chapter in the family adventure in 1973 by acquiring two Crus Bourgeois: Chateau Clarke and Malmaison. The Compagnie Vinicole was born.

At the Compagnie Vinicole, members of the Rothschild family strive to retain their characteristic pioneering spirit from James de Rothschild, in 1855, to the present day. They honour the potential and history of each terroir of their vineyards, and give them the care and special attention so that they can express their full potential to produce unprecedented great wines renowned around the world.

Petrus 1996 Sold out

The vineyard of Pétrus covers 11.4 hectares (28 acres) and is located on a plateau in the eastern portion of Pomerol.

Located on top of a 20-hectare (49-acre) island mound, the Pétrus boutonnière or buttonhole, Pétrus' original vineyard possesses topsoil and subsoil high in iron-rich clay that differs from neighbouring vineyards, where the soil is a mixture of gravel-sand or clay-sand.

The estate was among the first in Bordeaux to implement green-harvesting or éclaircissage as a way to lower crop yields and raise the quality of the remaining grapes.

Petrus produces an average of 30,000 bottles per year. The grapes are hand harvested over two to three days. The wine is aged between 12 and 16 months in oak barrels, half of which are new, before bottling. A stringent pre-assemblage vat selection is carried out and certain parcels are rejected from the Grand Vin.

Le Bourg

Le Bourg comes from a plot of very old vines in the centre of the village of Chacé, where the terroir is predominantly limestone with a deep clay subsoil. This wine offers very ripe fruit with highly characteristic fiery notes.

Clos Rougeard was established in the 17th century, on the lands of Chacé, a village not far from Saumur. The Foucault brothers, Charly (Jean-Louis, who died in 2015) and Nady (Bernard), were the last of eight generations of the family. They were pioneers of organic viticulture from the outset, refusing to yield to the temptations of chemical substances and gradually inspiring other winemakers.

Since 2017, the Bouygues family has owned this mysterious estate and its legendary wines, true jewels of the Saumur-Champigny appellation. Today, the estate has found new balance thanks to Richard, a passionate winegrower, and Jacques-Antoine, a craftsman of fine wines. They both work with the team to perpetuate the excellence and uniqueness of wines with unparalleled depth, finesse and precision.
