A reading nook leads off the main living and dining area, featuring Scandinavian chairs in delicate pastel shades that lend cool colour to the space.

An impressive entrance hall with comfortable seating divides the sleeping and communal spaces. It is instantly welcoming for anyone exiting the lift and sets the tone for the rest of the apartment.

The rawness of concrete-finished walls is softened by textured panelled headboards and bedside lights that have a silver foil finish. Not your average bedroom for teenage boys.

One of the apartment’s most impressive features is its two-tiered terrace, which is accessed via the living room. Similar to the interior, the outdoor space is divided into distinct areas: dining and relaxing take precedence on the lower terrace while the upper deck is devoted to a whirlpool bath zone. A white powder-coated aluminium sofa set and a slim-line dining table and chairs were selected because of their understated style, which means they blend into their surroundings and don’t seem to take up any space. An egg-shaped swing chair adds a fun touch and like the other outdoor furniture it has been designed with a semi-open back and sides to allow the flow of light rather than being more solid and blocking the view. Trees and plants on both terrace levels add natural pops of colour.

A mid-century modern vibe is evident throughout the apartment with the use of subtle curves, high-end functional furniture and unfussy details. The glass-sphered pendant light and round mirror, echo the circular shape of the marble dining table and its Lazy Susan.

To redesign the house’s original layout, separate Chinese and Western kitchens could be accommodated. The former can be partitioned off behind a glass door while the latter is integrated into the dining room to fulfill the clients’ need for an open and spacious entertaining area.

Main entrance was relocated to create a transit area before entering the living and dining area. A double skylight allows natural light to flood the minimalist foyer and the clean white décor lends a sophisticated Californian look.

As an extension of the house, the garden’s aesthetics and feel had to be consistent with those indoors. Sleek garden furniture is comfortable but kept to a minimum while a decorative pool and water feature enhance the environment’s relaxed vibe. Bi-fold glass doors blur the lines between the interior and exterior and bring the view into the home.

Contemporary and relaxed design in beige tones is the hallmark of the master suite.

With the herringbone-patterned wallpaper that looks more like an abstract artwork painted in shades of grey covers the wall behind the bed and becomes the focal point of the room.
