Children need at least 60 minutes of active physical play a day. Activities like this one, that invite the Cuddly Koalas to get up and move like a rabbit or any other animal he dreams up, help build strong, healthy muscles and bones. On a rainy day, put on some music, and turn your family room or play area into a forest or savannah where everyone can move and dance like their favourite animals./ Cuddly Koalas, Music and Drama/
"...For young children movement is body awareness. Children are learning what their bodies can do. They are defining the physical perimeters of their bodies. They are becoming less generalised and more specific in their recognition of where the different parts of their bodies are and what those specific body parts can do individually or in union with other body parts. They are becoming aware of the body's movement range from frantic activity to rest." -Feeling Strong, Feeling Free by Molly Sullivan p.22 / Brilliant Pandas, Music and Drama/
Whether a child is telling a story, reading, doing a math problem, or calling plays on the soccer field, it all comes down to remembering the order of a sequence and planning the action. Being able to break down a task into steps is also important in learning self-management, especially for children who tend to be hard on themselves (common among young gifted children)./ Tiny Tigers, Music and Drama/
Listening, singing, and playing instruments together while connecting to the larger community can be an experience of musical ecstasy for children. All the senses are employed, the emotions are engaged, and the stage is set for Bright Bunnies to experience a sense of joyful flow./Bright Bunnies, Music and Drama/
Spatial awareness allows us to sense our surroundings, recognise how our bodies relate to our environment, and understand how objects around us relate to one another. As children develop spatial awareness, they hone a better understanding of physical boundaries as well as concepts such as distance and direction. In this lesson, Cheeky Monkeys have opportunities to show their understanding of spatial concepts through movement, dance, instrument and prop play, as well as expand their spatial vocabulary by describing their surroundings./ Cheeky Monkeys, Music and Drama/

The Cuddly Koalas dived into the fantastic world of sensory and small-world play, and we combined them to create a fun, educational Zoo-themed adventure for them.
Sensory play is a wonderful way for children to explore the world around them using their senses. It helps with cognitive growth, fine motor skills, and language development. On the other hand, small-world play involves creating miniature worlds that children can manipulate and explore, sparking their imagination and creativity.

New Blog Post, 7 June 2024
Just like that, the school year has come to an end. Over the past few weeks, the Friendly Frogs have been busy building friendships, enjoying their outdoor times, collecting snails and creating a Tree of Life mural to continue fostering learning about ecosystems and the interdependence and interconnectedness of different life forms on our planet. Wrapping up our Unit of Inquiry on how we share the planet. We also had some exciting adventures, such as our trips to Rolli Polli and pony riding.
This year has been truly remarkable for the Friendly Frogs. They have grown tremendously, both socially and emotionally. Their progress has been a joy to witness, and we are excited for all the new adventures that await them in reception.
As we head into summer, we wish everyone a wonderful break and look forward to seeing you refreshed and ready for another amazing school year in the fall.
