In this workshop, participants will consider how movement and its manipulation bring us to meaning production. What lurks behind the sign systems of body and shape that we can use to create richly layered choreographic statements.

Outdoor performance at Glen River Park on Saturday 28 September, 6:15pm: Through The Valley She Runs by Helga Deasy Dance Artist and Choreographer.

Through The Valley She Runs is a dance and live music performance by choreographer/dance artist Helga Deasy in collaboration with dance artist Sara Hernandez and singer/musician Susan McManamon. This mystical and dreamy performance explores the relationship between imagination and riverscape sensitively drawing attention to the Glen River as a source of life, healing and regeneration.

Through The Valley She Runs is part of a larger event celebrating the recent work of Gleann a' Phúca with artists and communities at the park.

📍Free event, please meet at the Yin and Yang statue in The Glen River Park at 6:15pm on Saturday 28 September, where you will be guided to the performance location.

Through The Valley She Runs was commissioned by the UCC Creative Dance / Theatre Artist Commission 2024 in collaboration with ERI Environmental Research Institute UCC & Dance Cork Firkin Crane.

After taking some time to land and open up awareness, via selected physical, breath and vocal exercises from my practice, I will invite us into playful movement and sounding inquiry. In our musing, I will offer guided prompts embracing quality, range, isolation, sounding, balance, weight, tone, counterpoint, transition and observation.

Inclusive Dance Cork have just announced a 2-Day Introduction Workshop taking place on 3 & 4 November at Dance Cork Firkin Crane.

If you are curious about inclusive dance, working in the area already, or if you are a dance artist with or without a disability this workshop is for you.

Please email IDC coordinator Louisa louisa[at]firkincrane.ie to register your interest and for further queries.

We are delighted to announce a 2 day introductory workshop with Inclusive Dance Cork coming up 3rd and 4th November 2024, running from 10am - 6pm each day at the beautiful Dance Cork Firkin Crane, Cork City.

This workshop is designed for people with and without disabilities who are interested in learning more about inclusive contemporary dance. Participants must be aged 18+.

Professional Morning Class with Abby Z | Thursday 19 September, 11am.

Ahead of presenting ‘the future is on the way’ as part of Hyper Physical: A Dance Double Bill alongside irish modern dance theatre on 20-21 September, Abby Z will host a professional morning class at Dance Cork Firkin Crane.

Abby Zbikowski is a choreographer creating contemporary dance works that pay homage to the effort of living, tactics of survival, and the aesthetics produced as a result, utilizing the physical aspects and psyche-emotional experience of her rigorous training in African and Afro-diasporic forms, playing sports, and performing manual labor.

Our Story

Firkin Crane is unique in Ireland in that it is home to a professional working theatre seating 238 people as well as four fully-fitted dance studios. No other dance venue in the country can offer this combined facility.

The building was erected as part of the Butter Market in mid 1850s. A major refurbishment in the 1980s adapted the space for use by dance professionals, audiences, and enthusiasts who wish to participate in dance of all kinds. We host a wide variety of dance classes and workshops as well as presenting our own Firkin Crane Presents programme of contemporary dance. The casual visitor can also drop in and see parts of the historic building as well as experiencing the lively energy of dance through interactive exhibitions in our Dance Interactive exhibition space.
