Come to GalleryX next week for the opening of ๐
๐ข๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ค๐ง๐๐ฌ๐ฌ, the first solo exhibition of paintings by Lijuan McQuillan, curated by Tony Strickland.
The exhibition features a series of oil paintings which she began in the midst of grieving for her father, who died two years ago while her hometown in China was in lockdown. These works grew to investigate themes of time, memory and loss. As time passes, her paintings have seen a shift from dark and imaginative to realism and light.
Born in China, Lijuan has lived in Ireland for the last twenty years. She graduated with a Fine Art Degree from TU Dublin in 2019. She has participated in many group exhibitions and her work has been purchased, amongst others, by the Contemporary Irish Arts Society.
There's still time to see the .sticker.expo until Saturday 20 - don't miss it!
This week the gallery will only be open in the evenings (6-10 PM).
Free stickers for all attendees - yes you can get your kids to pick up some and stick them around the place... on second thought, maybe not. But bring them anyway, it's fun!
And there is still time to help the expo organiser with a contribution:

๐๐๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ is a series of stark, symbolic scultures expressing the anguish of confinement. A visitor yesterday commented on the leftmost of the three that it made her think of the regret felt by someone who has just escaped the cage, only to turn and see that his beloved was still inside. What do these scenes evoke in you?

We're really sorry but we can't open the gallery tomorrow (Saturday 29 June) due to personal logistical issues - and no, it's not because we're afraid that Taylor Swift might make an appearance and ruin our outsider credentials.
We'll be opening again on Tuesday as per normal schedule.
Have a great weekend everyone!

๐๐ฉ๐๐ง ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ!
For Culture Night Dublin 2024 (20 September) we are organising a showcase of young, independent, outsider, bizarre, and otherwise unexpected fashion design.
If you create clothing or other wearables, this is your chance to shine! There will be catwalks and showcases all evening long, and you can be featured. Just bring or send someone who can model your creations - it can be anyone, as long as they are over 18 or have parental permission. If you want you can also sell your creations in the front room.
We especially encourage submissions by people who don't quite fit into any mould and whose work has difficulty being seen for one reason or another. Maybe you live in an isolated area, or you're too young or too old, or your ideas or persona are hard to categorise. As long as you made it and it can be worn, we want to show it! And of course, we are also interested in things that are properly out there.
Please apply by email to [email protected] - I should not need to say it, but there is no fee for applying or participating.
We're open until 5 today. Come visit!

The art and the interior were very black and that made the primary colours of some of the outfits really pop... and the space outside was just irresistible what with the rare sunny and warm weather.
Thanks to all who came over and to those who bought art and to those who engaged in great conversation and to those who helped out in various ways to make it a wonderful evening.

"The Substance of Shadows" is a series of highly theatrical sculptures or dioramas, depicting moments suspended in time. They are stories centred on absence, on upset, on the consequences of dramatic events.
This work was originally exhibited in May 2023 as part of our collective show Dreams of Childhood.

JD Breen aka Declan Breen is a Wexford based sculptor whose work includes a public art portfolio in addition to the studio based practice.
This all sounds very tame, until you start losing yourself in the subtly disquieting scenes that Declan creates - either moments forever frozen in time, or an angry stillness at the injustices

Chelsea G. Summers is the author of the best-selling novel A Certain Hunger, as well as An Excellent Host, a special edition standalone short story chosen for Indie Bookstore Day in America. Chelsea's work has appeared in New York Magazine, Vogue, The New Republic, Racked, The Guardian, and other fine publications. She splits her time between New York and Stockholm, Sweden, and can be found on Instagram, TikTok, and Bluesky.
In An Excellent Host, modern dating goes wildly awry as ancient gods prepare to receive their due in this tantalising update to Greek myth. From the best-selling author of A Certain Hunger comes a delectable new story of decadence, subversion, and satisfaction worthy of Dionysus himself.
