Wishing all the best to writer Rónán Hession on the publication of his latest novel ‘Ghost Mountain’ today. We had the great pleasure of meeting the author when his photo was being taken here at the gallery for this Irish Times interview. Rónán chose a painting by artist Tom Climent to grace the cover of the book so it seemed appropriate to be photographed in front of Tom’s paintings! The book is now available from all good booksellers. Best of luck Rónán!

Cork artist Tom Climent: 'I'm trying to capture or create light within the paintings' Tom Climent's Spanish heritage and interest in science both feed into the paintings at his latest exhibition

"In Pilgrim we are presented with a body of vibrant and exquisitely textured compositions which offer a tantalising glimpse into worlds which straddle the border between ‘real and spirit’. What a wonderful and true free spirit
RIP BRIDGET FLANNERY
We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of artist Bridget Flannery, with whom Lavit Gallery had a longstanding relationship.
After graduating in 1981 Bridget received the Student of the Year Award from Cork Arts Society (now trading as Lavit Gallery) and subsequently featured in numerous annual group exhibitions at the gallery including a Student of the Year 40th Retrospective Exhibition and Bridget Flannery Selects, an exhibition she curated, both taking place in 2008.
In 2022 Lavit Gallery was delighted to welcome Bridget back to her native Cork for Undersong, her first solo exhibition in the city in twenty-two years. Bridget was a joy to work with on that last occasion and she brought with her a great deal of fun and warmth as well as a true zest for life and her art. We would like to offer our sincere condolences to Bob and all of Bridget’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.
Image: Bridget Flannery in conversation with her close friend and collaborator Angie Shanahan, an event that took place during her solo show Undersong in October and November 2022.
I am so upset to hear of the untimely passing of artist Bridget Flannery. We were privileged to exhibit her beautiful paintings over the years and she was always an absolute pleasure to work with.
I don’t believe I have ever met a more positive, energetic, joyful and kind person - never a bad word to say about anyone, always smiling and giggling and full of wise words, positivity and encouragement. She gave so much to her community through arts education. And whenever we chatted on the phone she would say something that somehow made you appreciate how wonderful life is. We bonded over sea swimming in COVID times and she always jokingly complained about living in landlocked Carlow during the darkest lockdowns (but still managed to find secret local rivers and lakes to leap into). She loved to travel and completely immerse herself in her new surroundings, filling endless sketchbooks with colours and textures that caught her eye along the way.
We only learned about her illness in February so it is shocking that she has been taken from us so suddenly. I would like to say ‘rest in peace Bridget’ but know that - far from it - she will be sketching, swimming, dancing and lifting the spirits of those around her, wherever that may be. We send our deepest condolences to Bob and her beloved family.
