The Limerick Unit of Order of Malta Ireland Ambulance Corps was established over seventy years ago in 1948 by Dr. Anthony Crehan assisted by Dr. Roche Kelly and Dr. Comber. It has grown to become one of largest units in the country whilst being based here in the centre of Limerick. We provide first aid and community services primarily to Limerick City and County and the greater Midwest Area. Here
We held our annual mass for deceased members yesterday at the Dominican Church.
Shortly afterwards the Dr. Patrick FitzGerald KM Memorial Silver Salvar for Member of the yesterday was presented by Mrs. Sheila FitzGerald to Lieutenant Ann Quin DM.
Ann is a long standing member of the unit with over 40 years of service and remains very active continuously carrying out many activities for the unit.
The award is truly deserved.

Christmas Appeal for Order of Malta Ireland.
Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem, a maternity hospital that delivers babies for families. Earlier this year, the hospital welcomed its 100,000th baby, a remarkable feat.
This Hospital is the only hospital providing neonatal care within the region, and every single donation counts towards the life of a newborn.

On Saturday we had our unit management team at the Ambulance Corps National Conference in Dundalk. Our unit historian and archivist Tom Hanly had an exhibition of some historical items at the event.
Today we had members led by our Officer in Charge Lt. Jim Keogh at a rememberance event for the Irish branch of the British Legion at Perys Square
Our Mass for Deceased Members will take place on Sunday 26th November at 1pm in St Saviours Dominican Church.

It is with great sadness we inform you all of the death of our dear friend and colleague John Quinn.
John was our former Officer in Charge and Assistant Regional Director.
We mourn the loss of our colleague who had over 60 years association with the Limerick Unit and was always there to offer advice and support and attended many functions held by the unit.
We cherish the many fond memories we have of his time with us.
He wore his uniform with great pride and during his term as Mayor of Limerick wore the mayoral robe over his uniform at the many events he was at.
Our sympathies to Johns family and friends - you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
May he rest in peace.
Funeral arrangements as follows:
Reposing at Thompsons Funeral Home, Thomas Street (V94 FT85) on Monday (10th July) from 5.30 to 7pm followed by removal to St. Lelia’s Church, Kileely Road (V94 X8W6).
Requiem Mass will be held on Tuesday (11th July) at 11am followed by burial in Mount St. Lawrence Cemetery (Behind V94 D5D3).
Our volunteers provided medical cover for the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle 2023 with our colleagues from around the South West Region yesterday. We had members at the medical centre in Killarney and out on the route with an early start for all.
Our thanks to Killarney for their hospitality and we look forward to working with everyone again in 2024.
Congratulations to unit members Comdr. Martin Purcell KM and Comdr. Catherine Purcell who were recipients of the Soverign Order of Malta Campaign Medal issued by the Grand Magistry in Rome.
The medals were presented at a ceremony on St. John's Day.

We celebrated 75 years of service to the people of Limerick yesterday with a thanksgiving mass on Holy Trinity Sunday at St. John's Cathedral.
We were delighted to be joined by the Mayor of Limerick Councillor Francis Foley, Dr. Loic Guyon the French Consulate, Knights and Dame of the Soverign Order of Malta, Comdr. John Wright KM National Director Order of Malta Ambulance Corps, Comdr. Brian Coote KM Deputy National Director, Members of the Ambulance Corps Executive, past and present members of the Ambulance Corps, members of O.N.E. and many friends of the unit.
