Words & Deeds – a Decade of Centenaries Project

Readings of three new short stories inspired by the 1916-1923 era, by local writer Sylvia Cullen. There will also be a talk in each venue about that period of history in the North Wexford area.

This is a free event and no booking is necessary. Refreshments will be served.

We really enjoyed working with the local community to make this video for Wexford County Council earlier this year. ‘Our FABulous Place’ is a documentary about the Coolcotts area of Wexford town, and explores how the area has changed since the development of the housing estates in the 70’s and 80’s. The film also documents a writing project in the area facilitated by Sylvia Cullen, and a songwriting project facilitated by Billy Roche.

The project, which celebrates Creativity in Older Age, was developed with FAB Community & Family Resource Centre. It was funded by Creative Ireland, with additional support from Wexford Local Development, Community Foundation Ireland and Child and Family Agency - Tusla.

We really enjoyed the shoot this week on our new production for Bat Conservation Ireland. Featured are Dr. David Clarke from BCI, Birr Castle Gardens, Coole Park Nature Reserve in Galway, and bats roosting in an old building. The bats were filmed under the supervision of BCI, with a filming licence from the National Parks & Wildlife Service. The project was funded by The Heritage Council.

The book created as part of the project will be launched in Wexford Library on Thursday 15th June at 7 p.m., and the short documentary produced by Stickyback Media will also receive its premiere at the event.

THIRD SHORT STORY BY SYLVIA CULLEN RELEASED

The third short story in the Smugglers & Summer Snowflakes podcast series has been released. ‘The Iron Rose’ was inspired by the infamous, Wexford-born smuggler, John Connor; a man who became known as ‘the Irish Robin Hood’.

'Smugglers & Summer Snowflakes', was commissioned by Ancient Connections and is supported by Wexford County Council. Inspired by lives and events in Pembrokeshire and North Wexford, the characters and worlds depicted are intimately connected with the seawaters linking both places.

The series was recorded and produced by Stickyback Media, and is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and Spotify. For those who don’t use podcasts, the series can be found on Soundcloud https://on.soundcloud.com/j3yuh. A new story in the series will be released each Tuesday until May 30th.

Here’s an article in this week’s newspaper about a new collection of short stories written and read by Sylvia Cullen, and recorded as a podcast series by Stickyback Media.

Smugglers & Summer Snowflakes, was commissioned by Ancient Connections and is supported by Wexford County Council. Inspired by lives and events in Pembrokeshire and North Wexford, the characters and worlds depicted are intimately connected with the seawaters linking both places.

The first story in the series is 'Needle Rock', set during 1629, a time when Pembrokeshire was a refuge for many struggling Irish people.

Smugglers & Summer Snowflakes is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify and Soundcloud. A new story in the series will be released each Tuesday until May 30th.
