Mahadevi Akka was born into a devout Lingayat family in the 12th century in Karnataka. Like Meera, Andal, and Lalleswari, she left the traditional family route and chose the ardous path of bhakti as a poet in the madhurya bhava or akalporul style—posing herself in the form of a Bridal Mystic.

Mahadevi’s work is revolutionary in the Kannada language. Yet, as other women have lacked proper reception for their work during their times, Mahadevi is gaining recognition as a saint through contemporary exploration of her philosophy, known through her Vachanas, or short poems, as well as her writings Mantrogopya and Yog-anga-trivid.

This June, learn about the life and wisdom of Mahadevi’s path with Shashirekha MG, a retired principal and Kannada teacher, and exponent of Kannada literature.

This course will help raise your awareness on women’s contributions and lineages in the field of yoga and religion. It will also inspire you have courage and bravery like Akka Mahadevi to follow your swadharma. Through this discourse, fall in love with a woman who defied the norms and stood her path to her own salvation.

There’s a lot of new research that demonstrates how beautifully the body syncs up with the sun. Experientially, we’ve known this a long time. The regulation of the nervous system, harmonisation of hormonal cycles and thus, mood regulation, efficiency of body processes, enhancement of healing - all of this happens when our internal body clock is in tune with the external, universal clock - regulated primarily by our relationship with the sun!

In the yogic tradition, suryanamaskara is an important practice in restoring the circadian rhythm. The alternating back and forward bends of the Bihar School style of suryanamaskara churns the nervous system off its inertia, resulting in the whole body being functionally awake. This is probably the cause of its popularity!

A systematic, regular, long term practice of suryanamaskara has proven to be therapeutic to a wide variety of disorders.

Sound Meditation workshop with !

We started off this Sunday with a deeply relaxing session of sound meditation led by Aarthi Padmanabhan of .

Sound meditation is the science of exposing yourself to sounds of particular frequencies that are conducive for the body and trigger its own self-healing mechanism. It is an important practice of nada yoga or the yoga of sound and vibration and has become very popular due to its incredible benefits on the mind and body, such as:

⭐️ Helps overcome sleep disorders and difficulties
⭐️Increases productivity and creativity
⭐️Helps quieten the mind.

Endless energy, unexplained weight loss—the initial symptoms of an overactive thyroid are often seen as “good” symptoms. That’s why hyperthyroidism is one of the most underdiagnosed endocrine conditions. But if left unchecked, it can lead to serious complications.

You’re at higher risk for hyperthyroidism if you:-

* Have a family history of thyroid disease
* Have pernicious anaemia (a vitamin B12 deficiency)
* Have type 1 diabetes
* Have primary adrenal insufficiency, also known as Addison’s disease (a disorder where your adrenal glands don’t produce enough hormones, such as cortisol)
* Consume an iodine-rich diet or medications containing iodine (like amiodarone)
* Are over the age of 60
* Were pregnant within the past 6 months
* Had thyroid surgery or a thyroid problem such as a goiter, also known as a swollen thyroid gland

What are the symptoms of hyperthyroidism?

High amounts of T4, T3, or both can cause an excessively high metabolic rate. This is called a hypermetabolic state.

When in a hypermetabolic state, you may experience a rapid heart rate, elevated blood pressure, and hand tremors. You may also sweat a lot and develop a low tolerance for heat.

Hyperthyroidism can cause more frequent bowel movements, weight loss, and, in women, irregular menstrual cycles.

Visibly, the thyroid gland itself can swell into a goiter, which can be either symmetrical or one-sided. Your eyes may also appear quite prominent, which is a sign of exophthalmos, a condition that’s related to Graves’ disease.

Other symptoms of hyperthyroidism include:

* Excessive metabolism
* increased appetite
* nervousness
* restlessness
* inability to concentrate
* weakness
* irregular heartbeat
* difficulty sleeping
* fine, brittle hair
* itching
* hair loss
* nausea and vomiting
* breast development in men
* dizziness
* shortness of breath
* loss of consciousness
* fast, irregular heart rate
