The Fish by C Douglas
C. Douglas is rare Indian modernist artist. He captures poetry in his works. James (2004) found that he instead of drawing and then color, was able to find abstractions with patterns, rhythm, and structures through brush strokes and color values in his paintings. This formal devices in his painting had a rigorous and rigid formal beauty.

Boom Boom Minor by S A V Elaiyaraja

“Boom Boom Maatukaran” represents an once ubiquitous lot that went on door-to-door collection of alms by making the animals nod to the drum beats – mainly the eerie ‘boom boom’ sound created by the rubbing of sticks on the drums hung on the shoulders – they are now very few in numbers. They were popular in villages and are depicted in several movies as well in the past. Now, these are professions that are almost extinct and the community members are dwindling in modern era.

Many in Chennai may have seen it, walked passed it but not know or realise the value of this historical statue that marks a moment in Indian History during the revolutionary times.
This statue titled “Triumph of Labour” was created by Artist Sevi Prasad Choudhary and erected on 25 January 1959, unveiled by the then Governor of Madras, Bishnuram Medhi Marina Beach to commemorate the
first-ever May Day Rally in India.
In May 1923, M. Singaravelar,
a labour union leader, conducted a meeting at the Marina Beach calling for recognition of workers' rights, and pledged to create a political party to represent the rights of labourers. This landmark moment of history was engraved on Marina with a statue more than 3 decades later.
