Inspired by “Samarpanam,” a profound collection of poems by Jyothi Ganesh, Thejomaye Menon’s paintings seeks to bridge the realms of poetry and visual art through a deeply personal and philosophical journey.
Jyothi Ganesh, a poet with an artistic vision, has explored the depths of human emotion and spiritual inquiry. As a Carnatic music singer, trained meticulously by her late father, she possesses a profound understanding of musical nuances, which echoes through her poetry. Additionally, her dedication to Vedanta studies has imbued her works with the essence of her core beliefs and practices, creating a tapestry of thoughts that range from the mundane to the divine, from the concrete to the abstract.
As an artist and fellow student of Vedanta, Thejomaye is honored to interpret the subtle nuances of Jyothi’s words, translating them onto her canvas. Jyothi’s poems, inspired by some of the artist’s earlier works, have prompted a reciprocal flow of inspiration, allowing Thejomaye to delve into complex ideals that, upon unravelling, reveal a simplicity that is mirrored in her paintings. Her approach as a colorist varies widely across her oeuvre, reflecting a mind at rest and engaging with her subjects from a place of tranquility, sometimes veering into the dreamy and abstract.
The artist expresses that Jyothi’s poems have sparked an effortless outpouring of ideas, as fluid and vivid as her poetic expressions.
The decades-long friendship between them has facilitated a seamless melding of their worlds, through an understanding and connection that only true friendship can foster.
Their shared journey through “Samarpanam” has been a transformative experience, drawing them into each other’s worlds with an ease that is both rare and precious.
Shalini Biswajit, Director of Forum Art Gallery and also a student of Vedanta, has graciously agreed to showcase these works. Her confidence in this project, devoid of any hesitation, resonates with the belief that “If it’s meant to be, it will find a way.”

Bronze, a sublime medium in sculpture, exudes enduring aesthetics. Its warmth and malleability allow for intricate detailing, or pure abstraction capturing emotion and depth.
In the works of Vasantha Raja there is a distinct sense of abstraction, characterized by an interpretive focus on form rather than intricate details.

A canvas engulfed in blue, a splash of red, a vibrant yellow that peaks through. Twenty-odd students of Art and Architecture flock it and discuss their interpretations in hushed tones. The play of colours and the abstract patterns captivates the audience.
Artist A Viswam stands amidst this chaos, observing the students. His latest collection titled Abstraction: An Emotional Resonance studs the walls of Chennai’s Forum Art Gallery. Thirty five paintings, which took shape over six months, are rooted in Nature and evoke a sense of peace and tranquillity.
When one grows up amidst greenery, it becomes the core of what they draw inspiration from, and Viswam’s art exudes this influence in ways that are as intriguing as they are captivating.
A Viswam, an accomplished artist from Keelavannam, Tamil Nadu, earned his Post Diploma in Painting from the Government College of Art & Craft, Madras, in 1978. He co-founded the Pallava Artists village in Padappai, and he’s a member of the Contemporary Painters & Writers Association in Salem. Since 1979, Viswam has exhibited his art across India and internationally. Speaking about his artistic process, he says, “When I’m painting, it is just me and the canvas. Everything else fades away. The canvas has to invite me in, otherwise I cannot paint. ”https://www.thehindu.com/entertainment/art/from-nature-to-canvas-an-emotional-resonance/article67343888.ece

Yoga has a calming restorative effect on the mind and body offering a holistic approach to health and well-being.
B.O Sailesh’s paintings based on yoga asanas are inspirational to view. His art explores the many asanas or poses based on the stretches and twists, flexes and poses of animals.
The earliest interactions of human beings have been with nature and the living creatures in it - the birds and the bees, animals, and insects, reptiles and amphibians.
It is from watching them in action and motion that we have been most influenced.
Sailesh’s series celebrate a gamut of asanas as expressed in his art based on his own personal experience as a yoga practitioner.

Ramana finds inspiration in nature foremost and the butterfly in particular.
The featureless faces of Ramana’s figures who populate his canvas are draped in graded hues, akin to his winged inspiration and they are captured in transition. Like a cocoon that shields the process, similarly the faces are devoid of expression, their myriad experiences not revealed and left much to viewer interpretation.
Drop by the gallery to view the show.

Games People Play
Shalini Biswajit Play to win I and II
Inspired by the game Parama Pada Sopanam popularly knows as Snakes and Ladders, it’s the vices that bring you down and the virtues that take you up. In the game of life interpreted as Samsara, as we face the ups and downs in life, we open our board with the choices that we make guided by our free will. The dice that we roll much akin to our own karma, determines the highs and lows that we face. In order to win we must stay focused on our end goal which is clarity of our true nature. The number 6 being the highest that one can roll as symbolised by the 6 dots on the checkerboard offered a possibility to attain that inner clarity which is Consciousness. The namams of Vishnu and Shiva represent that ultimate goal and in fair play by rolling the right number one can eventually win.
Samsara
In the game board that resembles Ashtaa Chema , all the numbers on the dice have been laid out. 1, ,2, 3, ,4 or 6 as symbolised by the corresponding dots on the canvas. The possibilities that unfold are many as a player makes a choice and that determines the path that he takes. Samsara is by choice or chance? The game unfolds as play progresses.

Games People Play
Inspiration - ‘Just Play’ by Vinita Sidhartha
B.O.Shailesh A strategic game of strength over weakness this game is a classic example of power over the powerless- the tiger and the goat/lamb. The powerless goat uses its intelligence to win.
The asymmetrical lines speaks of this imbalance in life/ money / power and of survival. It swings both ways. The multiple limbs 4 in number are the flailing legs of an attacked creature broken emotionally and physically. The half human tiger form denotes power and defeat, much as the board game is. It could swing any way.
