Book Excerpt:
"Meditation is one of the crucial ways to get in touch with your inner voice, your intuition. That is your direct link to the universal spirit, to Gaia. That's like your dynamic manual for living that is constantly being updated. As a wildlife photographer for many years, though I am very familiar with all sorts of cameras, anytime we have to upgrade to the latest technology, I find I'm helpless without the accompanying manual! And we humans are so much more complex than cameras, right? How can we operate sanely, optimally, and effectively when we are cut off from our intuition? Not possible, my dear. That is precisely how we've collectively landed in this ecological soup! By overriding our intuition, by ignoring our instincts.
The only way we can swim out of this soup is to first center ourselves. That begins with not doing things, but "being". By that, I mean being mindful of your breath, of your body, and bringing yourself completely to the present moment, without any thoughts of the future or the past. That is meditation. Yes, we can do it Buddha's way, sitting under a tree, far away in a forest, away from all distractions. But any act done with mindfulness is also a type of meditation. When you are on your terrace, you could walk more mindfully, paying attention to all things around you, instead of listening to music or thinking about other things. That then becomes a walking meditation. Easy? Yes, it is. Likewise, when you eat your meals, do so mindfully. When you are cleaning your room, stay with your breath, keep your mind on your action, and be fully present. As you become more mindful in every way, you will find that you are calmer. The chatter of your mind slows down. And then you will become aware that there is another voice inside you guiding you. As you follow this inner voice, you become your most authentic self, truer, stronger, and truly connected with all that is. "

We have to allow spirit to guide us, and for that, we have got to learn to be ok with just being, doing nothing. That is when we can really listen to...

About the Artist: Chennai-based artist Dharshana Bajaj has been creating original art since 1996. She received her MA in History of Fine Arts from Stella Maris, Chennai. And has a Diploma in Drawing and Painting from C.P.R Arts Center, Chennai. Her favorite subjects are Nature and the elements in it. Lately she has been fascinated by the idea of depicting the human species living in harmony with Nature, and has sought inspiration in science, spirituality, as well as art history. This painting is from her series made in 2017, titled Under A Crimson Sky, where she creates a parallel universe with love as the currency, the medium, and the highest virtue.
This is a stream of consciousness painting, depicting a rustic scene. It is filled with symbols of value to me and my theme of which this piece is a part, Under A Crimson Sky, created in 2017, after a particularly hard time personally. How easy or how hard is it to raise a child well? As they say...

Meditation can make one calm and peaceful, even when done in the midst of a bustling city...Around 2017, after a personal crisis, I was drawn to create a series of paintings that expressed my yearning for a better world...where people were wiser (symbolized by big, all-seeing eyes), children were always safe, humanity co-existed peacefully with the natural world, our planet was always surrounded by love (symbolized by the crimson sky), and we were always watched over by spirit or our higher selves (symbolized by the presence of the crow)...

Life can be full of surprises... In this last series of paintings, I have tried to create a parallel universe... a place where knowing exists along side of innocence, where love and divine protection surrounds us, allowing us restful nights and peaceful days. A place where children once again find a playground in nature, and people live in harmony, watched and guided by the eternal spirit depicted here as the ubiquitous crow. The experiences of life, the traumas of the past, hold fragments of our soul prisoner...it's when we gather all these pieces, and put ourselves right again, sometimes after a long journey...we may find ourselves, as it were, under a crimson sky.

Artist's Biography: Chennai-based fine artist Dharshana Bajaj produces evocative work steeped in Nature, and in the sensory exploration of the natural world. Largely self-taught, she believes her mission in life is to add greater beauty to the world, and inspire people to live in harmony with Nature. Some of her work also reflects her understanding of Advaitha philosophy, which considers that we are all one, interconnected with Nature and each other on a very quantum level.

Nature is a lot of things, beautiful, abundant, our source of sustenance, all-pervasive, magnificent...but it is also a great healer that is itself in need of some considerate care. Climate change is a reality, and if we wish to leave a healthy planet for our children, we have to get real too.

Intuitively we know it. As children, we have experienced it deeply. As adults, we need to rekindle it: our love for the glorious natural world. Living in harmony with nature begins when we learn to appreciate all its wonders, small and big. Spending time in nature uplifts the spirit, heals the soul and the body.

Oil Painting On Canvas By Dharshana Bajaj

This painting celebrates the interrelationship between the human species and the natural world. It depicts the truth perceived and recorded in ancient vedic scriptures as well as that recognized by modern day science, specifically Quantum Physics, that everything is deeply interconnected, and that all boundaries are illusions. Nature is not something outside ourselves. It is very much a part of who we are. Here, the figure shown is that of the famous singer Elvis Priestly, merging with the shapes and colors of the elements of the natural world. DM for details. Shipping additional.

The hindu sages of yore used to remind themselves constantly of the "truth" about life by repeating the phrase "Tat Tvam Asi" which means I Am That. This is part of the ancient Indian philosophy which believes we are in reality one with all that is.
Highly evolved modern saints were well aware of and in touch with this concept, too. One such enlightened being was Sai Baba, who constantly reminds us to keep the faith and be patient...and that all comes and goes in divine timing by divine order.
