Are dump wastes bothering you! Well now you can get it easily cleared up with the help of this new social media app. Amazing isn't it ? The solution to the long lasting problem of trash disposal has finally become reality, credits to the efforts of team EcoEden from Jadavpur University, comprising Rahul Shaikh, Pritthijit Nath, Aritra Samanta, Sandipan Saha, Shuvayan Ghosh Dastidar and Chitra Maji, who made it possible.

EcoEden brings to you an app which uses social media platform for tagging and collection of trash and wastage. Users can get rewarded as part of a very simple yet intriguing incentive based model. On top of that, to ensure involvement at every level of the community, top uncollected posts from each month will get referred to the local municipality to keep regular tabs on unchecked wastage. This app further brings to the table, a unique deep learning model that classifies trashes into various categories. Additionally, people can downvote a photo if they find it invalid or unsuiting of a trash post, and if it crosses a certain threshold that post will be removed.

To add a feather in their cap, MHRD acknowledged their innovation by declaring them the winners of Smart India Hackathon 2020 from Sustainable Environment (IC470) category.

The birth anniversary of "The Lady with the Lamp", Florence Nightingale, is celebrated as the International Nurses Day every year since 1965, as she is believed to be the founder of modern nursing.

As we find the world crippled by the pandemic today, we are bound to realise the selflessness of the nurses who look after the affected throughout the day and lament the ones who are dead.

Here's JU Ecell and IIC JU wishing a happy International Nurses day to the fearless frontline fighters.

"Harmony with land is like harmony with a friend; you cannot cherish his right hand and chop off his left."

Aldo Leopold has rightly said so, with regard to man's behaviour with Earth and nature. First observed 50 years back, the Earth Day is celebrated every year on 22nd April, around the world, to demonstrate efforts for protection of environment.

Let us strive to change the notion of citing natural calamities as force majeure. The IIC along with E-Cell continues to contribute its bit towards sustainable development and reversing climate change, by organising the Hult Prize at JU every year and encouraging and guiding budding startups like "Palok Poriborton."

Wendell Berry has rightly said, "The Earth is what we all have in common" and hence, we must collectively attempt save, all that mother Earth has offered to us.

In times of emergency, a monotonically increasing gap between demand and supplies of absolute necessities is no alien concept. Even in this year's Corona virus pandemic which has taken over 400 by the time this content is being written, we witness a severe shortage of essential medical items be it PPEs for medical staffs , proper masks and sanitisers for household use or required number of testing kits.

Thereby, on behalf of University, we would like to encourage the innovators , start-ups , companies and entrepreneurship fraternity as a whole in stepping up to the challenge on shortening the mammoth gap between the demand and supply of the necessary items that are absolute necessities.

Extension of the lockdown was definitely a necessary one but, is it enough to beat the heat out of a pandemic which crashed the global economy and made global powers cry? No. Hereby, In view of the
problems identified above and for development of faster solutions ( idea level) Institution's
Innovation Council, Jadavpur University has opened up a "Call for Idea contest".

This initiative will open up a plethora of opportunities for students to work on a matter that actually matters.

The entries should address on problems :

1)Development of a Mobile Phone based Application for ECG monitoring.

2)Development of a Mobile Phone based Quarantine Monitor Application.

The students may email these electronically to the Convener(IIC), Dr.Sayan Chatterjee at
[email protected] or [email protected] on or before 30th April2020 (Midnight).

“Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve.”
– Mary Kay Ash.
When you find an idea that you just can’t stop thinking about, that’s probably a good one to pursue. That is when a mind of an entrepreneur is ignited. To ensure that such innovative minds do not get extinguished, MIC (MHRD’s Innovation Council) is bringing forth the IIC (Institution’s Innovation Council), Jadavpur University. Its main goal will be to mould the young minds to think like a skilled entrepreneur. With features like Incubation Support and much more coming to you very soon, IIC, Jadavpur University and JU Entrepreneurship Cell is here to help you make your ideas a reality.
