Union Budget
01 Feb, '23

Internal Quality Assurance Cell, University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre Ludhiana, organized a live telecast session of the Union Budget- 2023 on from 11:15 a.m onwards for the students of Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, under the able guidance of the worthy Director, Prof. (Dr.) Aman Amrit Cheema.

The Honourable Finance Minster Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2023 and stated the priorities of the budget i.e. the Sapatrishi : inclusive development, infrastructure and investment, green growth, unleashing the potential, youth power, reaching the last mile and financial sector.

Accumulation of such significant information rejuvenated the exchange of ideas among the students about the Union Budget and the Indian Economy.

After the event , a colloquy session was held in which Dr. Pooja Sikka, faculty coordinator, recapitulated the whole budget and decoded it in terms of macro economic indicators. She also presented the sector- wise impact of Union budget.
The Director, Prof.(Dr.) Aman Amrit Cheema in her address shared her views about the pros and cons of Budget 2023-2024 with her inspiring vision. She also stated that the budget has ensured that the fiscal impulse is maximized in order to improve potential growth, while signalling adherence to medium-term fiscal sustainability.

Dr. Vaishali Thakur , Dr. Nisha Jindal and Dr. Samni Singla also presented their field of vision of the Budget.

The session was successfully coordinated by student coordinators Nandini and Naman (B.A.LL.B 6th sem) and Yashika (B.A.LL.B 4th sem).

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Nisha Jindal and Dr. Samni Singla, faculty coordinators of the event.

Poster Making Competition
25 Jan '23

Legal Aid Committee of University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana organized a Poster Making competition on 25th January 2023 from 1p.m. to 3 p.m. on the theme "Legal Awareness" in order to commemorate the occasion of Republic Day. The event was judged by Dr. Aditi Sharma and Dr. Pooja Sikka.

Many students participated in this event. The students highlighted the various aspects of Legal Awareness in their posters. Students not only exhibited the artistic side but also showcased their intellectual capabilities in the poster making competition.

The First prize was won by Simranpreet Singh (B.A.LL.B 6th sem), second prize by Aarti Gautam ( B.A.LL.B 8th Sem) and third by Sukhpreet Kaur Gill (LL.B 2nd sem).

The competition was organised under the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.)Aman Amrit Cheema. The faculty coordinators for the event were Dr.Vaishali Thakur and Ms. Sumanpreet Kaur.

National Voters' Day
25 January, 2023

University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana today observed National Voters Day.

An interactive discourse was organised in the institute campus for enhancing the knowledge of the students with regard to voting system in India on the theme NOTHING LIKE VOTING, I VOTE FOR SURE.

Dr. Baljinder Singh Dhillon (Returning Officer, 65-North Ludhiana), Ms. Anita Gulati(SVEEP Incharge), Mr. Amit Arora, (Supervisor) and many others graced the occasion and shared information relating to functioning of voting machines, need of voting by everyone without any bias, entire voting system etc. with the students, according to the changed political scenario.

The event took place under the guidance of Prof.(Dr.) Aman A. Cheema, Director, PURC, Ludhiana. Dr. Nisha Jindal was the coordinator of the event. The event concluded by taking a pledge to cast one's vote to maintain unity, integrity and dignity of the nation without any favouritism.

National Youth Festival

Students of University Institute of Laws, PURC, Ludhiana, participated in the National Youth Festival, 2023 held from 12th - 16th January, 2023 at Hubbali/Dharwad, Karnataka.

Four student volunteers were selected for the same, namely Manmeet Kaur, Ishan Bhardwaj , Yati and Aniket, who got a golden opportunity to witness the diversity of cultures in India under the able guidance of NSS Officer, Dr. Neelam Batra and Director, Prof. Aman Amrit Cheema.

The National Youth Fest included a Youth Summit in which eminent personalities from various fields were invited to deliver a lecture on numerous topics such as mental health, animation, innovation and future of Start-up in India, etc.

The evenings were concluded with a Cultural Fest in which talented artists from the music and dance industry mesmerized the audience.

Prime Minister, Sri Narendra Modi, marked his gracious presence for the inauguration ceremony at Hubbali.

A Food Fest was also organized in which different states represented their cuisines.
Volunteers from various states displayed the specialities of their states in the cultural exhibition which gave an opportunity to learn more about the rich heritage of the country.

The event proved to be a fruitful endeavor for all the participants.

National Service Scheme
National Integration Camp
23- 29 November '22

Three students of University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, under the guidance of Prof.(Dr.) Aman Amrit Cheema, Director PURC Ludhiana and Dr. Neelam Batra, NSS Programme Officer, participated in an NSS National Integration Camp which was organized by CBLU, Bhiwani at BRCM, Behal from 23rd November to 29th November, 2022.

The students who participated in the camp are Deeksha, L.L.B. 2nd year, Jesus Goyal, B.A.LL.B 2nd year and Kirti Bhardwaj, B.A.LL.B. 3rd year.

During the camp various activities were organized. The day began with yoga and physical exercises and continued with other co- curricular activities like slogan writing, debate, cleanliness drive, skit competition, cultural performances and the like. The event focused on personality development, confidence boosting and cultural diversity among various volunteers from 15 states of India.

All the volunteers received medals and certificates on successful completion of the camp.

Constitution Day

In order to commemorate Constitution Day, the NSS unit of Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana organised a guest lecture on the theme "Constitutional Values and Fundamental Rights" on 26 November 2022.

Prof.(Dr.) Arti Puri, Professor of Laws, University Institute of Laws, PU Regional Centre, Ludhiana was the resource person for the event. Prof. Arti Puri discussed the contribution of the Constituent Assembly in framing this great and living document and she also laid stress on importance of Fundamental Duties. The event was fruitful with the efforts of the Director, PURC, Prof.(Dr.) Aman Amrit Cheema and the Programme Officer Dr. Neelam Batra.

Awareness Programme
30 October- 13 November '22

The District Legal Services Authority, Ludhiana organized an Awareness Programmes under PAN India Awareness and Outreach Programmes from 30th October to 13th November. Students from University Institute of Laws went to the villages from 8th November to 13th November accompanied by an advocate and a social worker.

The objective of this awareness programme was to make the rural areas of Punjab more aware about their legal rights which include free legal aid provided to women, children, SC/ST category. The villages assigned to the students covered most rural areas of Punjab like Jargaon, Raikot, Doraha, Malodh, Payal, etc.

The people shared their problems with the advocates for further guidance in their cases. They were also given pamphlets which gave them a brief description regarding how they could file a suit and get free legal aid.

The volunteers also contacted the Sarpanch of the villages. The volunteer’s experience was filled with exposure and knowledge.

Slogan writing competition
15 November, '22

In order to commemorate the month of November as Punjabi month, a Slogan Writing Competition was organized on 16th November 2022 in the institution as per the direction of the Punjab government.

Hardik BA.LLB 5th semester, Simranpreet Singh BA.LLB 5th semester and Sukhpreet Kaur Gill LLB 1st Semester) secured first, second and third positions respectively.

On the occasion, the Director of the Institute, Prof. Dr. Aman Amrit Cheema, gave prizes to the winning students, and expressed her happiness and encouraged the students to participate more in such competitions.

This competition was conducted by Assistant Prof.Baldev Singh (Punjabi) and Assistant Prof. Shalini Verma (Hindi).

Freshers' Party
10 November, '22

On Thursday, 10th November 2022, Amrita Shergil Girls Hostel, Panjab University Regional Centre of Ludhiana, organised a freshers party for its new residents. The event took place under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Aman Amrit Cheema - Director, PURC, Ludhiana and Dr. Vaishali Thakur - Warden, Amrita Shergil Girls Hostel.

Credit for all the arrangements, starting from decoration & stage to catering & DJ, goes to B.A.LL.B. 3rd year hostel residents. Masquerade was the theme of this very charming yet competitive evening, as freshers strove for the title of Miss Nueva.

The event started with the welcome note of honourable judges- Prof. (Dr.) Aman Amrit Cheema, Dr. Aditi Sharma and Dr. Vaishali Thakur. The event was also graced by the presence of other faculty members, namely Dr. Rajnish Saryal, Dr. Ashish Sehjpal and Dr. Pooja Sikka.

In order to get the most suitable candidate for ‘Miss Nueva’, there were three stages - Ramp walk, Talent Hunt and Beauty with Brain (question round) respectively. Not to forget the power-packed dance performances by other residents, presented in between these rounds, which filled the party with more energy.

Forging ahead, the judges felicitated Manvi (BA.LLB. 1st sem.) with the sash of Ms. Nueva and residents had the cake cutting ceremony. Finally it was time for the most awaited moment ‘DJ Bash’ & the stage was all for the residents to groove.

Declamation Contest on "Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas "

University Institute of Laws, which always gives its students a platform to present their views and enlighten them on current affairs, organised a Declamation Contest on 15th November 2022. the contest was held to celebrate the occasion of "Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas", which took place under the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Aman Amrit Cheema - Director, PURC, Ludhiana. Dr. Vaishali Thakur & Dr. Meera Nagpal were the coordinators of this event.

The event started with a brief backdrop of the day i.e. 15th November, the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, which has been announced to be celebrated as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, by the Ministry of Education, dedicated to the memory of brave tribal freedom fighters. Students from BA.LLB. & LL.B participated enthusiastically. Dr. Aditi Sharma & Dr. Rajnish Saryal were the honourable judges for the event.

By the time winners were being listed, Prof. (Dr.) Aman Amrit Cheema was requested to address the audience. She applauded all the participants and at referred to the real-life story based Legal Drama “Jai Bhim” urging students to observe the character of Adv. Chandru. She encouraged the budding lawyers to be the voice of voiceless & let the stories of unsung heroes be echoed around the world.

Forging ahead winners were congratulated. First position was bagged by Kirti (B.A.LL.B. 5th Sem.); second by Jessica (B.A.LL.B. 3rd Sem.) & third position holder was Shagun (B.A.LL.B. 3rd Sem.). The event concluded with the following powerful lines- “आजादी वह है जब न सपनों के दरख्त फैलाने से डरें और ना टूटी हुई चप्पल डिजाइनर जूतों के साथ चलने से। आजादी वह है जब झुके हुए सिरों का मुकद्दर बदल जाए और खोलियों के दिल से हवेलियों का डर निकल जाए। आजादी वह है जब हौसले की चिड़िया बाधाओं का पिंजरा तोड़ दे और क ख ग, A B C से डरना छोड दे।”

Extension lecture on Gandhi and Indian Nation's Making
10 October, '22

In order to commemorate the Natal day of M.K. Gandhi, Father of Nation, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, had organized an extension lecture for the tutees of B.A.L.L.B (Hons.) on 10th October, '22. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Meera Nagpal under the directorship of Dr. Aman Amrit Cheema on the topic : Gandhi and Indian Nation's Making.

Dr. Meera Nagpal stressed upon the factual aspect of Gandhiji's contributions and struggle towards India's emancipation. She made us acquainted with the foundation of Indian National Congress (1885), initial role of the Moderates, rise of Extremists, first World War (1914-1918) Morley- Minto Reforms (1909), Rowlatt Act , Khalifa Movement, Non- Cooperation, Civil Disobedience, Satyagraha , Quit India Movement , Commencement of Constituent Assembly and making of the Constitution of India. This Information encouraged the students to participate interactively and enthusiastically.

After the session, a question answer session was moderated by the faculty coordinators Dr. Rajnish Saryal and Dr. Vandana Bhanot in which the students shared their field of vision and perspectives on the given subject matter to which they reverted unequivocally.

The session was convened successfully by the student coordinators Kirti Bhardwaj and Jesus Goyal.

Dandiya Night
20 October, '22

Dandiya, the folk dance of Gujarat, is a celebration of life and an important part of the socio-religious aspects of India.

The Dandiya sticks used for this graceful dance represent the swords of Goddess Durga. This dance is performed chiefly during Navratri. And to give a zealous welcome to the Festive Season, Dandiya Night cm Diwali Celebration was on October 20,2022, for the first time ever.

The enthusiastic night proved to be a great opportunity for the students and faculty to relax and enjoy and mingle with one another.

The night cheered with Gujarati and Dandiya songs on repeat. And the best dressed students were awarded with the titles of Mr. Dandiya, Aniket and Miss Dandiya, Lavanya Khanna.

The students of BA.LLB 1st semester also showcased their talent through a beautiful dance performance. The event was finally concluded with dinner.

The event was planned and anchored by the students of BA.LLB 5th semester- Kirti Bhardwaj, Simran and Vishesh.
The decoration committee consisted of-Aarti Masih and Carol Arora (BA. LLB 7th semester), Aniket, Simran, Hardik and Nandini (BA.LLB 5th semester).

Freshers' Party
19 October, '22

The purpose of Fresher’s Party is to welcome new students in a friendly atmosphere and to encourage their creative impulses to boost their confidence. It is the day where seniors and juniors finally bond and unite to celebrate being part of the college.

So on October 19, 2022 the much awaited Freshers’ Day party was held in PURC after three years. The benevolent welcome by the seniors of the freshers generated a friendly atmosphere between them. The anchors for the evening were-

The programme started by welcoming the faculty members and our new batch of BA.LLB and LLB students. Senior students arranged many activities for the freshers which included performances such as kathak, bhangra, singing and ramp walk where everyone got a chance to showcase their talents.

Paath and Hawan
18 October, '22

To start the three day festivities with the blessings of the Almighty, Paath and Hawan were organised on October 18, 2022.

The Sukhmani Sahib Paath in the morning, provided a pious atmosphere and showered all with the teachings and blessings of the Guru Sahib.

In the afternoon, Hawan was conducted. The Priest focused on the importance of pooja, studies and goals of the students. The Hawan was immensely soothing and helped purify the atmosphere.

After both the religious ceremonies were concluded, Langar was organised where the students served food with great dedication to all the faculty and their fellow students.

University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana organised its first ever offline Alumni Meet on 11th November, 2022. Distinguished Alumni of the Institute S. Harjot Singh Bains (Minister of Education, Mines and Geology, Jails and Water Resources, Government of Punjab) and Adv. Dhruv Chawla (Advocate, Supreme Court of India) were honoured and felicitated by Prof.(Dr.) Aman A. Cheema (Director) and Prof.(Dr.) Arti Puri (Faculty Member). Many other alumni of the institute also attended the Alumni Meet. Students who recently brought laurels to the Institute were also felicitated. Some of the students felicitated are as follows:

Vigilance Awareness Week
31October- 6 November '22

PURC Ludhiana observed ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’ from 31st October to 6th November on the theme “Corruption free India for a developed Nation” to create awareness amongst all stakeholders regarding common issues of corruption, unethical practices and vigilance.

PURC Ludhiana under the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Aman Amrit Cheema, Director, commenced the Vigilance Awareness Week with the Integrity Pledge on 31st October. On 4th November a Quiz Competition-cum-test was conducted by event coordinators Mr.Taranjeet Singh and Ms. Dhriti Jain of UBS and Dr. Neelam Batra and Dr. Rajnish Saryal of University Institute of Laws. The quiz was conducted to sensitize students about honesty and transparency for a corruption free India. Students of both Management and Law participated in this quiz with zeal.

Seminar on Legal Aid
31 October '22

The District Legal Service Authority, Ludhiana in collaboration with University Institute of Laws Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana organised a seminar on the theme of "Legal Aid" under PAN India awareness and outreach program on 31st October 2022. The resource persons for the event were Advocate Harsimrat Kaur and Sh. Davinder Singh Garewal (Social Worker). The idea of this campaign is to bridge the gap between the institutions and underprivileged by spreading legal awareness and ensuring delivery of legal entitlement to eligible beneficiaries. The resource persons discussed the role of Law students in creating such awareness.

Monday, 17 October '22

These two students of UILS, PURC Ludhiana were given a golden opportunity by professor Aman Amrit Cheema, Director PURC Ludhiana and Dr. Neelam Batra, NSS Programme Officer, to attend 10 days National Integrated Camp.

On 6 Oct, the students of UILS, PURC and other universities started off their journey of 10 day adventure camp from Ludhiana to ABVIMAS Water Sports Centre Pong Dam, HP.

In the evening students had an interactive session with Chief Instructor Mr. Deepak on behalf of Mr. Rakesh Walia, head, ABVIMAS Regional Sports Centre, Pong Dam, HP. The students were given instructions regarding various water allied sports as well as water safety measures.

Everyday the students had a work out session. Two sessions were conducted everyday and ctivities like swimming, kayaking, sailing, rowing, eskimo rolling, electric hydrofoiling and surfing were conducted in these sessions. Other extra curriculum activities like singing, dancing and poetry competitions were conducted.

A Special lecture on FR’s and Constitutional remedies was delivered by PURC students. They also organised and hosted many informative and cultural events. On the last day of the camp a cultural night was organised by the volunteers to represent their diversified cultures by performing different acts like yoga, traditional dances like Bhangra, Giddha, Bharatnatyam, Kathak etc.

The volunteers were awarded with badges in the valedictory ceremony for their participation.

National Unity Day
Seminar on National Integration Unity
31 October, '22

University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre (PURC), Ludhiana observed Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on 31 October, '22 (National Unity Day) to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

To mark the occasion, a seminar on ‘National Integration Unity’ was organised in the institute campus for enhancing the knowledge of the students with regard to Political System, Integrity and unity of India. Prof (Dr.) Jagrup Singh Sekhon , professor of Political Science (retd.), Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, graced the occasion as chief guest. He talked of 'Unity in Diversity', which is one of the most powerful thoughts India has given to the world and the current political systems of the world. Prof. Singh put great emphasis on the changed scenario of world political system. The event took place under the guidance of Prof (Dr.) Aman A. Cheema, Director PURC, and Prof (Dr.) Ashish Virk. Dr. Nisha Jindal and Dr. Samni Singla were the coordinators of the event. Concluding the event Prof ( Dr.) Aman Amrit Cheema emphasised the need to maintain integrity and security for national unity.

The seminar was attended by students of LLB 3rd and LLB 5th semesters. Such lectures are very important for the overall development of the students.

Run for Unity
National Unity Day
31 October '22

In order to commemorate National Unity Day, the NSS unit of Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana organized the ‘Run for Unity’ on 31st October 2022 within the premises of Rakh Bagh, Ludhiana. The event was convened by Dr Neelam Batra, Programme Officer, NSS, in which more than 150 participants including the general public participated with great enthusiasm.

One of the volunteers delivered a speech on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Everybody, with firm optimism pledged to be united, work tirelessly towards the integrity of the nation and persuade fellow countrymen to do the same for the nation to prosper and united ‘we the people of India’ can be triumphant in attaining what seems unattainable. This was followed by the run which saw enthusiastic participation.

The event was conducted under the guidance of Professor (Dr.) Aman Amrit Cheema, Director, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana and the NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Neelam Batra.

an Intra Moot Court Competition, 2022 on 10th, 12th and 14th October, 2022. The moot proposition of the Intra Moot Court
Competition, 2022 related to a matrimonial dispute. 17 teams participated in the
competition with zeal and enthusiasm. The competition consisted of four rounds that
were Preliminary, Quarter-final, Semi-final and Final Round. Semi-final round of the
competition was judged by Adv. Inderpreet Singh Sohal and Adv. Vibhav Khanna,
who both are alumni of the institute. Final round bench consisted of Ms. Ravisha
Sidhana, Prof.(Dr.) Arti Puri and Prof. (Dr.) Aman A. Cheema. Ms. Ravisha Sidhana,
alumni of University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana
who recently passed the Rajasthan Judiciary exam. The competition was conducted by Moot Court Coordinators
Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Virk and Dr. Nisha Jindal under the able leadership of Prof. (Dr.)
Aman A. Cheema, Director, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana. Details of the winners of the
