The Indian Mountaineering Foundation is conducting its National Certification course "The Judges, Route-Setters and Belayers course" in Manali from 13th to 17th June 2024. This initiative will train technical team that not only builds a ecosystem around Sport Climbers at the same time this course empowers and opens up new avenues to the trainees in the Adventure tourism industry . Over 70 participants from various states along with Indian Air Force personnel and enthusiasts from Nepal are attending this historic event at the ABVIMAS complex. For the first time, comprehensive belaying training covering sport climbing, rock, and ice climbing is being provided to ensure safety in all adventure activities. The program was inaugurated by Col. Vijay Singh, President of IMF along with guest of honour Mr. Avinash Negi, Director ABVIMAS

Zanskar, also known as Zahar or Zangskar, is a picturesque tehsil in the Kargil district of Ladakh, India. Nestled 250 km south of Kargil town along NH301, its administrative center is Padum. Historically, Zanskar was briefly part of the kingdom of Guge in Western Tibet, sharing a rich cultural heritage with neighboring Ladakh. This serene region, surrounded by majestic mountains, offers a unique glimpse into the rugged beauty and historical tapestry of the Himalayas.

Ms. Chandra Prabha Aitwal, the oldest woman mountaineer and a distinguished member of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, continues to trek with unparalleled zeal. Born on December 24, 1941, in Dharchula, District Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, her journey is a testament to resilience and adventure. Over the years, she has tackled formidable peaks including Kedar Dome, Abi Gamin, Kamet, Rataban, Nanda Devi West, Gangotri, Nanda Kot, Bagirathi II, and Satopanth.
Her contributions to mountaineering have been widely recognized, earning her a total of 14 prestigious awards. Among these accolades is the esteemed Padma Shri, a testament to her remarkable achievements and dedication to the sport. Ms. Aitwal's legacy not only marks her own personal triumphs but also enriches the history of mountaineering with her indomitable spirit and unwavering passion for exploration.

Celebrating the legacy of Capt. M. S. Kohli! Born on December 11, 1931, this legendary Indian mountaineer led the 1965 expedition that placed nine men on Everest, a world record for 17 years. From Saser Kangri to Annapurna III, his 20 major Himalayan expeditions are awe-inspiring. As President of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (1989-1993), he made significant strides in mountaineering and environmental conservation, founding the Himalayan Environment Trust. Even in retirement, he's committed to youth development through adventure and leadership.
On May 23, 1984, Bachendri Pal made history as the first Indian woman to summit Mount Everest, the pinnacle of human achievement at 8,848.86 meters. A testament to determination and courage, her ascent inspires generations to chase their dreams against all odds. She was awarded the third highest civilian award in India, Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2019. Here's to her achieving many awards, and insurmountable feats that make her an active mountaineer till date.
