CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

Classroom management refers to the wide variety of skills and techniques that teachers use to keep students organized, orderly, focused, attentive, on task, and academically productive during a class. When classroom-management strategies are executed effectively, teachers minimize the behaviors that impede learning for both individual students and groups of students, while maximizing the behaviors that facilitate or enhance learning. Generally speaking, effective teachers tend to display strong classroom-management skills, while the hallmark of the inexperienced or less effective teacher is a disorderly classroom filled with students who are not working or paying attention.

What is Virtual classroom

A virtual classroom is an online learning environment that allows for live interaction between the tutor and the learners as they are participating in learning activities.

In other words, the virtual classroom is a shared online space where the learners and the tutor work together simultaneously. Usually, these interactions take place through videoconferencing. The participants have tools to present learning content in different formats, as well as to implement collaborative and individual activities. In this type of interaction, the teacher has a particularly important role of the moderator who guides the learning process and supports group activities and discussions.

Parenting-

Parenting or child rearing is the process of promoting and supporting the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood. Parenting refers to the intricacies of raising a child and not exclusively for a biological relationship.

The most common caretaker in parenting is the father or mother, or both, biological parent(s) of the child in question, although a surrogate may be an older sibling, a step-parent, a grandparent, a legal guardian, aunt, uncle or other family member, or a family friend. Governments and society may also have a role in child-rearing. In many cases, orphaned or abandoned children receive parental care from non-parent or non-blood relations. Others may be adopted, raised in foster care, or placed in an orphanage. Parenting skills vary, and a parent or surrogate with good parenting skills may be referred to as a good parent.

Parenting styles vary by historical time period, race/ethnicity, social class, and other social features. Additionally, research supports that parental history both in terms of attachments of varying quality as well as parental psychopathology, particularly in the wake of adverse experiences, can strongly influence parental sensitivity and child outcomes.

Social intelligence-

Social intelligence is the capacity to know oneself and to know others. Social Intelligence develops from experience with people and learning from success and failures in social settings. It is more commonly referred to as “tact,” “Common sense,” or “street smarts.” Social scientist Ross Honeywill believes social intelligence is an aggregated measure of self- and social-awareness, evolved social beliefs and attitudes, and a capacity and appetite to manage complex social change. Psychologist, Nicholas Humphrey believes that it is social intelligence, rather than quantitative intelligence, that defines who we are as humans.

The original definition by Edward Thorndike in 1920 is "the ability to understand and manage men and women and boys and girls, to act wisely in human relations". It is equivalent to interpersonal intelligence, one of the types of intelligence identified in Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, and closely related to theory of mind. Some authors have restricted the definition to deal only with knowledge of social situations, perhaps more properly called social cognition or social marketing intelligence, as it pertains to trending socio-psychological advertising and marketing strategies and tactics. According to Sean Foleno, social intelligence is a person’s competence to optimally understand one's environment and react appropriately for socially successful conduct.[5] It is important to note the multiple definitions listed above, as there is yet to be a complete consensus on the operational definition of social intelligence. Babu M (2013) pointed out the major four dimensions of social intelligence viz., Me-Identity, Web-ironment, Social Inputting, and Empathetic Co-operation. These factors together form the social intelligence of an organism.

Discipline-

Discipline is action or inaction that is regulated to be in accordance (or to achieve accord) with a particular system of governance. Discipline is commonly applied to regulating human and animal behavior. In the academic and professional worlds a discipline is a specific branch of knowledge, learning or practice. Discipline can be a set of expectations that are required by any governing entity including the self, groups, classes, fields, industries, or societies.
Children being educated to use public litter bins is a form of disciplinary education that is expected by some societies. Discipline is followed in every school. If a child cannot use a litter bin the lack of discipline can result in a reaction from observant people in public. Many people observe a form of disciplinary effort in their daily lives. Discipline acts an important role in student's campus life to enhance their credit and intellectual recognition amongst peers. In academia, discipline can also regard the educators' responses and efforts that are designed to punish the student(s).

Discipline is a moral obligation among many groups of people. Disciplined behavior is required by some laws and other legal obligations. Commercial entities can also put in place strict disciplinary requirements for the length of the commercial agreement. Airlines enforce strict disciplinary and conduct rules upon flight passengers.

What is Topic Modeling And For Whom is this Useful?

A topic modeling tool takes a single text (or corpus) and looks for patterns in the use of words; it is an attempt to inject semantic meaning into vocabulary. Before you begin with topic modeling, you should ask yourself whether or not it is likely to be useful for your project. Matthew Kirschenbaum’s Distant Reading (a talk given at the 2009 National Science Foundation Symposium on the Next Generation of Data Mining and Cyber-Enabled Discovery for Innovation) and Stephen Ramsay’s Reading Machines are good places for beginning to understand in which circumstances a technique such as this could be most effective. As with all tools, just because you can use it, doesn’t necessarily mean that you should. If you are working with a small number of documents (or even a single document) it may well be that simple frequency counts are sufficient, in which case something like Voyant Tools might be appropriate. However, if you have hundreds of documents from an archive and you wish to understand something of what the archive contains without necessarily reading every document, then topic modeling might be a good approach.

Understanding Learning Styles
Learning styles vary from student to student, and teaching styles vary from instructor to instructor. Identifying your own preferred method of learning or learning style will help you recognize and overcome the gaps between your professor's teaching style and your learning style. You may have already identified your learning style without realizing it.

Do you:

Prefer to read new material rather than having it read to you?
Catch yourself doodling while in class?
Understand concepts better after doing a lesson in the chemistry lab?
These are all clues about which learning style you prefer. Take the VARK Questionnaire to learn more!

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IN EDUCATION-

Parental involvement refers to a situation where parents are directly involved in the education of their children, they involve themselves and are involved by the school and teachers in the learning process of their children, and they fulfil their duties as parents in making sure that the learner is assisted in the process of learning as much as they possibly can. It does not just refer to parents enquiring about the performance of a learner in schools, but also in them taking a role in communicating with their children with the aim of having a healthy relationship with them, so that the process of encouraging, mentoring, leading and inspiring may be genuine.

How can parents be involved? Parents can be involved in their children's learning through becoming part of school boards, being concerned about their children's academic performance, showing dedication in their children's learning through availing themselves during parents meetings, in order to gain a better understanding of the performance of their children.

Exams-

et hold of the right information from the start
Make sure you know how you will be examined, and what you'll be examined on. Catch up with anything you've missed, so that you've got all your notes up to date.

It may be less stressful to do the work than it is to worry about it
If you find it hard getting motivated, set yourself measurable goals for each revision session, and tick them off when you've achieved them. After each session, acknowledge the achievement.

Do what works for you
There's no 'right' way to revise, it's largely a matter of what suits you best. Switching between methods helps you hold your interest and absorb information better.

Use flow charts and diagrams
Visual aids can be really helpful when revising. At the start of a topic, challenge yourself to write down everything you already know about a topic - and then highlight where the gaps lie. Closer to the exam, condense your revision notes into one-page diagrams.

Practice old exams
One of the most effective ways to prepare for exams is to practice taking past versions. This helps you get used to the format of the questions, and - if you time yourself – can also be good practice for making sure you spend the right amount of time on each section.

Snack on 'brain food'
Keep away from junk food! You may feel like you deserve a treat or that you don't have time to cook, but what you eat can really have an impact on energy levels and focus. Keep your body and brain well-fuelled by choosing nutritious foods that have been proven to aid concentration and memory, such as fish, nuts, seeds, yogurt and blueberries.

Drink plenty of water
Remember that being well hydrated is essential for your brain to work at its best. Make sure you keep drinking plenty of water throughout your revision, and also on the exam day.

What is bilingual education?
Bilingual education is a term that refers to the teaching of academic content in two languages, in a native and second language. Varying amounts of each language are used depending on the outcome goal of the model.

How does bilingual education work?
There are different program models that can be used in bilingual education. Historically, program models used for English Language Learners (ELL) have focused on helping students transition from their native language to English.

Transitional bilingual education involves the partial or total use of the child’s home language when the child enters school, and later a change to the use of the school language only. The goal of transitional bilingual education is to transition students into English-only classrooms as quickly as possible. This is sometimes called early exit bilingual education.
Maintenance bilingual education involves the use of the child’s home language when the child enters school, then a gradual change to the use of the school language for teaching some subjects and the native language for teaching others.

CLASS SIZE-

Class size refers to the number of students in a given course or classroom, specifically either (1) the number of students being taught by individual teachers in a course or classroom or (2) the average number of students being taught by teachers in a school, district, or education system. The term may also extend to the number of students participating in learning experiences that may not take place in a traditional classroom setting, or it may also refer to the total number of students in a particular grade level or “class” in a school (although this usage is less common in public education).

1.Reform
In recent decades, a variety of reform efforts have been focused on decreasing class sizes, or the average class sizes in an education system, as a strategy for improving school and student performance.

2.Debate
In recent decades, there has been much debate about class size and whether simply reducing student-teacher ratios will lead to improved student learning and academic achievement—particularly on a large scale, such as in a state’s public-education system.

Have you ever studied hard for a test only to blank out on exam day? Perhaps your study techniques could use some improvement! Tutor Doctor has some excellent tips on how to retain more information while studying.

1. Space out your study sessions. Try not to “cram” for your exams by forcing yourself to go through a super-long late-night study session.

2. Write down notes. Highlighting text is good, but actually writing something causes your brain to use a different set of mental processes.

3. Get a good night’s sleep. Your brain actually uses the time during restful sleep to encode short-term memories into long-term ones.

4. Minimize distractions. Turn off televisions, electronic devices, and anything else that will distract you while studying.

5. Teach what you’ve learned to someone else. Explaining a concept or subject to another person is a great way to really break down your understanding of what you’re learning.
