🏔 Winter Triumph at Mt. Lahurkut II 4487m: A Journey of Endurance and Achievement! 🏔

In a historic and challenging feat, the adventurous souls of Jammu & Kashmir Adventure Sports Club (JKASC) and Badamwari Athletes undertook the first-ever winter summit of Mt. Lahurkut II, standing tall at 4487m. This remarkable achievement unfolded on a second attempt, where perseverance conquered the formidable peak.

Led by the seasoned Mountaineer Muzamil Hussain Mir, the expedition commenced its arduous journey from Srinagar with a team of four members. The clock struck 4 am as they embarked on their trek, headlamps illuminating the pre-dawn darkness. The trek truly began at 5:45 am, with the first rays of sunlight painting the landscape in hues of gold as seen from Pharao/Fraw village in the Ganderbal district.

Traversing through the challenging terrain, the team overcame Rumi and Parbat meadows covered with pine trees 🌲, reaching the picturesque Dothsar Lake 1 & 2. This leg of the journey marked a significant milestone, as it completed the exploration of 100 alpine lakes by Zahid Kota.

The ascent towards the summit posed formidable challenges, with 4ft powder snow making each step a test of endurance. As the team progressed, encountering snow as deep as 5 ft near the summit, the struggle intensified. Crawling became the method of choice, and at 2:50 pm, the summit was conquered.

From the peak, the view was nothing short of breathtaking – the Pir Panjal Range, Zojila Range, and the majestic peaks of Mt. Kolahai and Mt. Thajiwas & bird eye view of alpine lakes unfolded before their eyes. A surprise awaited them in the form of a Himalayan ibex herd, a testament to the untamed beauty of the region.

Descending proved to be as challenging as the ascent, with the team making it back to the base at 7:30 pm. The accomplishment was sweet, but the journey was not without its trials. Two members, Suhail Khan and Adil Ghazi, reached the lakes but couldn't muster the energy for the final push to the peak.

In the words of Zahid Kota and Muzamil Hussain Mir, "Those who are high on endurance can achieve this feat." The climb was acknowledged as one of the most difficult ever undertaken.

The triumph is not just in reaching the peak but in defying the winter's harshness. It stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit of those who dare to dream and strive to achieve against all odds. A heartfelt congratulations to the entire team for etching their names in the annals of mountaineering history with this extraordinary winter summit! 🎉🏔

Embarked on a mesmerizing journey from Srinagar at 6:15 am, reaching Pahalgam by 8:10. After a refreshing tea and breakfast, we set forth to Chandanwari at 8:50. Trekking through the picturesque Pissu Top and Zajbal Meadow, we finally arrived at Sonsar at 12:10 pm.

The Munawar Sar trek, nestled in the higher reaches of the enchanting Aru Valley in Pahalgam, offers a challenging yet rewarding adventure. Accessible from both the Dehwuth Sallar and Tral sides also, our journey covered a total distance of approximately 18 kilometers. We made some daring shortcuts during the trek, adding to the excitement. The highlight of the trek is undoubtedly reaching the serene Munawar Sar Lake, perched at an altitude of 3,600 meters. Our day started a bit later than planned, at 9:00 am, as we initially intended to set out at 7:30 am.Along the path, we encountered another group of four trekkers at a saddle point between two mountains. Initially, they expressed doubts about continuing due to the perceived distance and time constraints. However, consulting a map gave us renewed determination, and my team pressed forward with the goal of reaching the lake and returning to our starting point.Surprisingly, the other group also decided to join us when they saw our progress toward the lake and together we ventured towards the captivating lake. The journey was not without its challenges, as we encountered patches of snow ranging from 3 inches to 1 foot in depth.After a fulfilling day, four of our team members reached the lake by 2:45 pm. Our descent commenced at 3:30 pm, and we made it back to the base at a punctual 8:30 pm.
This trek, often described as tough by those who have attempted it, can indeed be challenging. Still, for seasoned trekkers or those with good endurance, like us, it proved to be an exhilarating and achievable adventure.

Yesterday's trek to Sheeshnaag Lake was an unforgettable adventure. As we ventured through the rugged terrain, we were greeted by a rollercoaster of weather conditions. First, gentle raindrops started falling, cooling the air and adding a sense of mystique to the journey. Then, as we ascended further, the landscape transformed into a winter wonderland, with snowflakes softly covering the path and creating a serene atmosphere. Just when we thought we had seen it all, a sudden snowstorm swept in, blanketing the surroundings. It was a day of nature's unpredictability, making our trek to Sheeshnaag Lake a truly remarkable experience.

🛑This Sunday, we're excited to announce an upcoming trek to Sheeshnaag Lake. The lake, covering approximately 1.1 kilometers in length and 0.7 kilometers in width, promises an enchanting experience. Participants will have the opportunity to witness the serene beauty of recent snowfall on the surrounding mountains near lake. Club organized a trek to Shilsar Lakes. While we initially aimed to reach the 4th lake, our efforts were thwarted by adverse weather conditions and a lengthy search for the lake's location. Eventually, we had to make the tough decision to turn back.
