“We are a blaze in the northern sky” Darkthrone used to sing in the 1990s.
However, we might add in the words of Eugene Thacker that the place of horror, the kind of metaphysical horror that takes place within a materialistic and overtly secular perspective, makes the planet a magical place.
This premise introduces a summer group show by Pinksummer entitled The Morbid Palace, a title also suggested by the place where the exhibition will take place, which will not be the gallery, but a space that has remained secret and abandoned and somehow protected from the asphyxiating logic of late capitalism. The very curious and imposing room is inside a 13th-century building in the city centre, very close to the Cathedral of San Lorenzo: we learned about its existence thanks to our architect friend Valter Scelsi. For centuries the church of the Guardian Angel in Vico Squarciafico, from the beginning of the 20th century until after the Second World War it was instead a power station and was finally forgotten until our exhibition. We thank here the new owners who have just acquired the building for agreeing to lend us this special place and to open it to the public after seventy years with the exhibition The Morbid Palace.

Vodorosli by Luca Trevisani is one of the artworks acquired by the Villa Adriana and Villa D’Este Institute curated by Andrea Bruciati.
Artificialia et Mirabilia has just ended. An exhibition organized by the Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este Institute -VILLAE curated by Andrea Bruciati that sees the works acquired thanks to the PAC2021 - Piano per l’Arte Contemporanea, promoted by Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea del Ministero della Cultura. This exhibition includes Luca Trevisani’s work: Vodorosli.
The project includes focuses dedicated to individual contemporary works, which are thus placed in dialogue with exhibits from the Institute’s permanent collections. The primary task of recent acquisitions is to help renew and enliven the complex cultural stratification of historic places and their osmotic relationship with the landscape. The inclusion of works with a contemporary language in historical collections facilitates the relationship with the anthropological roots that the Institute represents, syncretic roots that are also the foundations of Western culture.
Vodorosli is a Russian word for frozen seaweed fronds. It all started with a form inherited from Alvar Aalto: the artist decided to take his organic thought and return it to his home environment, to an idea of nature in vitro, reconstructed and kept at bay. Vodorosli is an expanding world, unstable subtle, interested in looking at where the boundaries drawn by humans impose themselves to nature.

Mariana Castillo Deball
Luce dietro tracce incompiute
October 19th, 2023 – April 7th, 2024
MUDEC - Free admission
“Luce dietro tracce incompiute” is the textile installation by Mexican artist Mariana Castillo Deball, which with its monumental dimensions welcomes visitors inside the heart of the Museum, the Agora.
Working with the collections of MUDEC and Fondazione Ratti, selected twelve textile fragments from different geographies and periods of time, based on which she subsequently created her own watercolors. These images were then printed in large format on fabric and assembled with additional textile elements at the workshops of NABA – New Academy of Fine Arts – together with a group of students directed by Salvatore Averzano. In this way, three-dimensional “palimpsests” were made, shimmering with different meanings and stories.
For the first time, the intervention on the glass surface changes the very status of the architecture, transforming it into a reflective volume on which the sculptures, made of lightweight, semitransparent textiles, appear. The natural light filtering through this composition of textile fragments, creating a new cartography.
A program of guided tours of the collections’ storerooms will allow the public to discover the Museum’s pieces reinterpreted by Deball in her installation. This recreates the often-invisible link between the exhibition space and heritage, which becomes accessible.
Curated by Katya Inozemtseva and Sara Rizzo with the support of 24 Ore Cultura and Fondazione Deloitte.

< The concept of monstrosity can be seen as a formalization of anxieties because it represents a visual manifestation of our fears about the world around us and about the time we live in.
Monstrous figures are often representations of the unknown, the abnormal, and the threatening, and as such, they serve as symbols of our deepest angst.>
An extract from Bojan Šarčević – Vieille Lâcheté
< The cut as a form of thought, as a sculptural figure with which to find the good articulations of the world, the cut and its paradoxical sweetness, the cut as a cultural and cultic gesture, as mythologema. The mouth, the hand, the nurture: a never-ending writing where the distinction between the self, the body and the environment are no longer so certain.>

AWAKENINGS
I was alive, to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that. But the reason I knew it, that I was alive, was sadly unpleasant.
For the past few months, every day around six o’clock in the evening, my eyes began to water: both and copiously as soon as the sun set behind the buildings. Drops that I perceived to be elastic and somewhat viscous would descend unceasingly to the sides of my nose, rest on my lips, descend again to the tip of my chin, in the center of which they would accumulate. And from there they would then fall, finally, beyond the surface of my skin.

“Here is L’Inaspettato (The Unexpected): the sudden shape of a plant body, a tangled image that attracts you and would not have appeared if you had not slipped off the path.
You begin to wander through the woods, constantly losing and regaining your bearings. Scouring through brambles, bushes, thorns, leaning, fallen logs.
Like a battlefield, earthy lumps mixed with stones and roots. Trees rolled there by time and waters hold each other in acrobatic structures and shapes,
from underneath, from within.
Like blind moles you dig in the mud, and refocus, afterwards, multiple lines that continue in the sheet in all directions.”

We are very happy to be part of Panorama L'Aquila | a city-wide exhibition curated by Cristiana Perrella
7 - 10 September 2023
with
LUCA TREVISANI
The focus in the new edition of Panorama, curated by Cristiana Perrella, will be on L’Aquila’s vast historical heritage - with its medieval stratum reflected in the city walls, its Renaissance stratum recognizable in numerous palaces and churches, its Baroque and then Neoclassical stratum related to 18th-century reconstructions - in part still damaged by the last earthquake and in part rebuilt and restored to their original splendor. The Spanish Fortress with the room where an extremely rare mammoth skeleton found in 1954 just outside the city is preserved in its entirety, the Baroque Oratory of Palazzo de’ Nardis, the Giorgio de Marchis Foundation, the Casino delle Delizie Branconio, the National Museum of Abruzzo, the MAXXI L'Aquila, as well as palaces, courtyards, public spaces and places of everyday life, will be inhabited by works of ancient, modern and contemporary art and will interact with works created for the occasion.
