, in meltdown, but hope for opens up 📈

sector in meltdown, on the rise, out of control: this is how looks today when reading the country's macroeconomic data.
Yet, interesting prospects are opening up for Italian companies, since the post-Brexit bilateral memorandum of understanding between and the United Kingdom.
The market across the Channel remains crucial for our economy: in the sector the UK is the eighth most important market in the world, with a €1.2 billion demand for packaging technologies.

Leaving the European Union has had heavy repercussions: the strong political uncertainty goes hand in hand with considerable economic insecurity in the UK; housing investment plummeted after the Bank of England hiked interest rates to curb record inflation (above 10 percent), and mortgage demand came to a screeching halt.

According to the latest on the U.K. sector, the inflationary surge is set to subside in the coming months: in this, the Mecs Study Center also agrees, estimating a recovery to 2026 in demand for slabs and from the UK at around 5 percent per year on average.

: China and India unstoppable, while the rest of the world slows down 🌏

In its latest Outlook for April, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) shows a global economic environment that has fallen to historic lows, in line with those put together by the Mecs Study Center on the evolution of the market.
Global growth estimates are downgraded to a modest +2.8 percent for 2023: this is at the lowest since 1990.

In this context, and lead the way: in the world of packaging, growth forecasts to 2026 for India exceed 7 percent, while for China they are close to 4 percent, values that are higher than the world dynamic.

However, this strong Asian development is confronted with an opposite trend in the rest of the world; the Russian-Ukrainian conflict has put a strain on the growth of the involved and neighboring countries.

The is going slow, as evidenced by the 3.5 percent annual average for the packaging market evolution

slows after post-earthquake reconstruction boom 🚧

Albania could look like an attractive investment pool for Italian ceramic manufacturers after the that struck the country in 2019, a disaster that has prompted the acceleration of the sector.

Opening up further in the Albanian market is the renewed commitment of the Meloni government to boost Made in Italy exports especially to the , through Albania.

However, a -3.4 percent decline between now and 2026 is expected in the country's consumption, with a realignment to the pre-earthquake dynamics and thus to previous demand volumes.

Contributing to the decline in tile consumption is the decrease of Albanian population since 2001 that does not seem to stop even in 2022, a year marked by a -1.3 percent drop.

Post-pandemic Africa calls out to Western industrial and financial partners 🌍

Africa becomes a major player in the debate on the world , following a speech by the director of the International Monetary Fund's Africa department, Abebe Aemro Selassie, at a conference last March 20 at the Center for the Study of African Economies in Oxford.

An investment in the African continent offers great opportunities for major Western manufacturing sectors, including for Italian companies.
It is no coincidence that represents the area with the greatest potential in the next four years, according to the Mecs Study Center's "Cube" forecasting model on the world machinery market: although small in absolute terms (about 1.4 billion euros), the African market for packaging and packaging technologies is expected to grow at a rate of 5.3% per year between now and 2026, compared with a world average of 3.8%.

Look at the data - Made in Italy ceramics breaks the 5 billion export wall 🌐

Figures for the first eleven months of ceramic tile exports confirm Italy as the top exporting country in the world.

That's 4.76 billion euros in Italian tile exports, with an additional 700 million slice of business in the space of a year that is the result solely of higher prices. In fact, to compensate for increases in energy bills, manufacturers decided to raise the prices by nearly 20 percent.

Italian ceramic tile exports can be expected to be well over €5 billion in 2022. The Spaniards, the fiercest competitors of the Italian producers, stopped at 4.3 billion euros in exports by value over the 12 months, and in turn raised price lists by about 30 percent over 2021.

What's new? - Packaging and plastics machinery find their ally in India 🤝

The strengthening of the Italy-India relationship, confirmed by Giorgia Meloni's visit to the Indian premier after years of institutional tensions, may reverberate in the coming months in a further acceleration of vibrant trade exchanges for many Made in Italy sectors.

In fact, data from the Mecs Study Center show that Italian machinery exports to India reached +24.5 percent in the plastics sector in the first 11 months of 2022 and an even greater +40.6 percent in the packaging sector compared to the same period in 2021.
