Today we are commemorating the death of Percy Bysshe Shelley who died in 1822 in a boating accident off the coast of Tuscany.
In the year that marks also the bicentenary of Lord Byron's death we'd like to remember Shelley through Byron's own words in a letter to John Murray, his publisher, dated 3 August 1822, just a few weeks after Shelley’s death. Byron was completely shocked by the death of his friend. and even though the poets had a tumultuous relationship during their lifetimes they both shared reciprocal respect for each other, as Byron's comment shows: "You are all brutally mistaken about Shelley who was without exception – the best and least selfish man I ever knew."

Have you already seen our 3D virtual exhibition, 'Pretensions to Permanency' which showcases 5 different portrait-busts of Lord Byron? Did you know that the shooting process required hundreds of photos taken in different locations?
In fact, since the busts were located in five different places and most of all in two different countries, England and Italy, the shooting process took a long time. Also, to create the virtual experience the busts were photographed from different angles in order to produce a 3D effect that allows you to look at them at 360°.
