Chiropractic & Acupuncture (dry needling)
By now, I’ve chatted with most of you about my upcoming maternity leave—but if I haven’t caught you yet, I’m sorry I couldn’t share the news in person!
The Adjustment Co. has always been my first “baby,” so finding the right person to step in and care for you all while I’m away wasn’t a small ask. I wanted someone with the same spark, style, and approach. After a bit of a hunt, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve found the perfect match!
Meet Dr. Aryane Powell—better known as “Annie!” She’s coming to Jersey this Friday and will be spending time in the clinic over the next few weeks while we train together. Annie will officially take over on November 25th and keep things running until late May or early June.
Right now, the plan is for me to return part-time in June and (fingers crossed) be back full-time by late August or September.
**What stays the same?**
All the essentials: our prices (which haven’t changed in over 4 years!), our opening hours, and all the familiar ways we keep things running smoothly. I hope chiropractic means a lot to each of you, and I’m committed to making this transition as seamless as possible!
Born in Bristol but raised in New Zealand, Annie graduated from the New Zealand College of Chiropractic in 2021. She moved to the UK last year and has been living her dream—combining chiropractic with her passion for travel.
Hobbies: Annie is an athlete and is currently training for the Hyrox Championships in Ireland in two weeks time, so she knows all about the dedication it takes to stay in peak form. Her knack for understanding sports performance will hopefully relate with you all as I have mentioned that most of you are an active crowd! Plus, she has a huge heart for family wellness, especially for helping babies and kids through chiropractic. (something which I have shied away from so a great new offering for the clinic)
In her words, she’s “excited to explore Jersey, embrace island life, and meet each of you. She’s looking forward to helping you on your health journey.”
The Adjustment Co is hiring!!

MRI in Jersey
So with MRI’s of the neck and lower back I cannot refer in Jersey. With extremities such as knee, ankle, elbow and wrists this can be done at strive and you can refer yourself for £349
mriscanjersey.co.uk
To my knowledge at present there are only a few drs that can refer for spinal MRIs in Jersey. if you are self funding it will cost around £1000 to get this done.
If you really want an MRI and are self funding and want a more cost effective way of getting this image you can self refer to clinics in London. Vista-health.co.uk
Appointment usually last 30 mins and you get your result within a few days.
Depending on the time or day the prices range from £300-£400. And can usually be booked within a few days.
What I have found is that some patients really get fixated on a diagnosis, a label, to know what of the condition which you is experiencing. And will go to great lengths with time and money to get that. However once you get that diagnosis you don’t magically resolve the issue.
A diagnosis is helpful as it directs treatment however treatments are very similar irregardless of diagnosis as a working diagnosis would have been made.
A working diagnosis is made off the history you give and examination of the body. as the clinician a range of very similar working diagnosis are made.
For example if you came in to see me with a sore back with pain radiating down your leg this could be coming from either bone, disc or nerve.
The way in which I treat the body it doesn’t matter which is the issue as the treatment protocol is the same and generally after a few sessions becomes pretty evident as to which structure is involved. Ie a boney impingement is usually quite quick to resolve whereas a disc and depending on the severity of the disc bulge whether mild moderate or severe usually means a longer treatment time.
If I were experiencing pain like the example above and with the knowledge I have I would personally start treatment straight away, the sooner things get looked at the less time you are giving for other areas to compensate and therefore create other issues. I would see how it goes for 2-3 weeks if I start to feel like things are lifting I would continue with that if however there was no change or worsening after let’s say 6 sessions I would personally start looking in to some images.

“The road to hell is paved with good intentions”
Most sources interpret this expression as meaning that good intentions are worthless unless followed up with action.
Some offer an alternative interpretation: that actions that are taken with good intent can have unintended negative consequences.
The point is whatever treatment plan that is given to you whether it be your chiropractor, osteopath, physiotherapist, GP, consultant etc etc gives you are totally able to say no and look for an alternative opinion.
It’s your body, your health and your choice.

Last week, UK Member of Parliament Andrew Bridgen addressed the House of Commons with grave concerns regarding the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Mr. Bridgen's call for an immediate cease and ban on the vaccination campaign was prompted by alarming data compiled from NHS data over the previous 10 year period indicating serious safety issues and harm associated with the Covid 19 vaccines. Of particular concern locally to the Channel Islands is the lack of a vaccine compensation scheme in the Channel Islands, despite numerous reports of injuries following vaccination.Mr. Bridgen's speech also shed light on the troubling issue of the dismissal of reported symptoms by health professionals. Many individuals who have experienced adverse reactions post-vaccination have been told that their symptoms are unrelated, possibly due to a lack of awareness among healthcare providers regarding current data. Mr. Bridgen has shared a recent report with all UK MPs, revealing an increased incidence of various medical issues post-2020, sourced directly from the NHS.You will see from the graphs on Pages 5 and 6 alone the exponential rise in both brain and breast cancers as an example of Mr Bridgen's serious concerns.
Understanding the importance of informed consent, we believe it is imperative for individuals to have access to comprehensive information regarding the risks associated with the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Therefore, we are extending an invitation to all members of our community who wish to gain a deeper understanding of these risks and make informed decisions regarding their health moving forward.
The special debate hopes to bring together Channel Island States Members, local GPs, and numerous healthcare sector employees involved in the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Our goal is to discuss the lessons learned and chart a path forward that prioritises the well-being of our community members who have experienced harm following vaccination.
Please note that this invitation is not intended to cause distress but rather to provide an opportunity for learning and understanding. Our island communities have a collective duty to care for one another, and this includes learning from past mistakes to ensure the safety and efficacy of our healthcare services.
Join us as we come together to ensure a safe and healthy future for all islanders. Together, we can navigate these challenges and uphold the values that make our island life so precious.

Every single body is different. I don’t know how you’re going to feel after your appointment.
Some people walk out of the appointment feel like a weight has been lifted, feel like they are floating and immediately know they are on the right tracks.
Other people feel great for a few days and the perhaps on day 4-5 feel their body regressing.
Other people almost within a few hours or the next morning feel beaten up, as if they have been in rounds with Mike Tyson.
All three reactions are normal!
The people who usually react in the 3rd way are people who generally have had pain for a long time. Their bodies have adapted to being in their old position and so have their muscles.
They are also usually older with perhaps some degenerative changes in their bodies and it takes longer to adapt. What I have found is that after about 3-4 sessions this “wiped out” feeling goes. And you start to feel good right from the start.
If you are the second person, whereby it’s come back this is also normal. It takes time for the body to stay in its new position, alignment. This is why follow up appointments are important.
Some people say things like “chiropractic worked for me but it didn’t give lasting affects” these are usually patients who haven’t followed the guidance and tried to short cut their healing. Ultimately the body keeps the score and there are no short cuts.
Finally if you have adjusted well and feeling great that is awesome news!
If you wanted to up your post adjustment experience having a hot soak in the bath with magnesium or Epsom salts for half an hour, drinking lots of water, going to bed early and not training would be great.
If you are feeling any pain ice to that area to decrease any inflammation would be recommended. Remember I’ve only for 10 mins and not directly on the skin.

Chiropractic & X-Ray
I freakin’ love an X-ray!
It’s such a good tool to really see the state of the spine.
I’m particularly interested in:
Spinal alignment
Bone Degeneration (wear and tear)
Disc height
Hereditary discrepancies
Signs of trauma (old & new)
You have 2 options of obtaining one, either through your doctor or privately to Lido Medical centre.
X-ray is a great tool for eliminating guess work and also great for patient education as for the visual learners out there seeing your actual spine can help make sense of it all.

Avoiding Adjustment Injuries
Tips to allow your body to be at ease when getting an adjustment.
The more relaxed you are the more likely to have a great release.
- Be on time to your appointment
- Get your body in the right state before you come on to the table
- Try and not “brace” “tense” “hold your breath”
- Don’t look down
- Communicate with your practitioners

No ordinary testimonial
As most of you know my dad has been a pretty big influence on my life.
He is my dad, my coach & a major reason why chiropractic came in to my life.
This is actually a testimonial of chiropractic not by me but my Chiro from back home, who I try and see when I’m back.
I couldn’t bear to cut or edit the video so here is the raw content.
I know I might be biased but I love this story and it’s cases like this that really give me and other chiropractors their why.
Have you been told there’s nothing you can do to help yourself?
Have you tried chiropractic to make your life better?
Have you tried everything else with no success?
Here is a classic case of that, and at 85 years young my dad volunteers for help the aged doing gardening 3 x a week 4 hours a time.

All the muscles in the jaw are controlled by the nerves which originate from the neck so it’s important for the cervical spine, jaw, muscles and nerves to all work together in harmony to keep the jaw balanced and the nervous system free of interference.

Before & Afters 👌
A life changing story.
This story began with an email from Sam’s dad of “can you help my son?”
After hearing what had been going on I was so honoured that I/chiropractic was even thought of as a solution to the problem. Most people think of chiropractic as back pain/neck pain.
However, this case was completely out of the ordinary.
Balance, dizziness, brain fog, headaches and weakness were the main points of complaint.
An X-ray was ordered and care began after these results.
Initially I started quite gently but as Sam’s strength grew as able to incorporate “stronger” adjustments.
A rehab routine was strongly recommended and care included chiropractic adjustments and dry needling. As well as patient advice & exercises.
Overall, since beginning care headaches have gone, brain function improved, energy and ability to work are all regained.
I myself am completely blown away by what chiropractic can do, and it makes me think what would of been had this care not of been given for Sam’s life.
