Artist: Franz Marzouca

I was born a true Jamaican island boy. From an early age I loved travelling around the island which led me to taking snapshots of my friends and places we visited.
I was offered an opportunity to study in Lugano Switzerland where at the age of 15 I took a course on photography that would eventually consume my life.

As I travelled and photographed the many cities of Europe as a street photographer, influenced by the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson. I was drawn to the character of the old world and the new world and how light and shadows in black and white could evoke such a mood in my photos.

Artist: Janile Salmon

Art for me started at a young age. There is one distinctive moment that I remember telling myself this is what I wanted to do. I was in the first grade and I was captured by a drawing my teacher's daughter had done on the board. From that moment onward I developed a passion for art. My specialty is abstract and pop art because it is more than what meets the eye; what you see within the painting is heavily dependent upon one's own imagination. As a self-taught artist, creativity through painting became a form of self-expression and development for me. Learning through trial and error turned out to be character building and I attribute my endurance, resilience, and patience to my craft. Art in all its forms is a special language that I am proud to speak. It is my wish that every piece I create connects to the right person and brings a bit of joy and self-expression to their space.

Artist: Sana Rose

I have always had a natural inclination towards collage and assemblage, which began in my childhood when I used to make decorative items and gifts from discarded household objects. Over the years of forming my artistic vocabulary, I collected a variety of materials from plastic, paper and glass to metal and fabric having been drawn to these objects through subconscious attraction prompted by colour, texture, pattern and form.

Through working with my hands, I seek to reclaim and recontextualise found materials and objects without stripping them of their past history. In addition to this way of engaging them with the duality of the past and their ‘new’ present, I also uncover other interesting contrasts in their interplay such as hard and soft; plain and patterned; smooth and textured; shiny and dull; and discarded and useful.
As a redemptive process, my artmaking gives new life and purpose to discarded or broken objects – a process which draws many parallels to human experiences of feeling stained, hurt or discarded. Paired with childhood memories of events and domestic spaces, my motifs range from silhouetted bodies and body parts to abstract shapes and textures, which invite the viewer to interpret their emotions or experiences into new thoughts and meanings.

Artist: Suzanna Missenberger

Suzanna Missenbeger is a Jamaican born and based Visual Artist. She began her artistic career in Kingston, Jamaica primarily as a street artist illustrating and examining themes around Caribbean community and gender identity. Presently she explores woodwork, mask-making, mixed media and photography. Suzanna's work focuses on the process of exalting non-human ancestors and animating the inanimate. She draws her inspiration and frame work from modern literature and mythologies from the Caribbean and African diaspora, as well as stories from maternal lineage. This exploration is currently structured through the process of wood work and mask making. She plays with the concept of discretion and hiddenness in translating otherwise invisible guiding forces in life. Her most recent body of wood work explores the relationship between sea shells, fragmentation and split psyches. She relies heavily on inspiration from her natural environment, in an attempt to create visually digestible directions for mending and examining our ecological relationships.
