According to research done by the International Children's Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) at least 21 million children need palliative care annually and out of the 21 million, 8 million children need critical care. Most of the paediatric palliative care needs are in low and middle-income countries around the world. Friday 14 October is a day for raising international awareness of the need for children’s palliative care and the work of children’s palliative care (CPC) services worldwide. Now in its 9th year, the annual campaign is known as Hats On for Children’s Palliative Care with the hashtag . Take a picture wearing a hat and post it on social media with the hashtag to show your support for paediatric palliative care.

You can register and map where you will be taking the picture from on the ICPCN global map here https://www.icpcn.org/register-event-hatson4cpc/

Community support and everyday acts of compassion for adults and children living with serious illness at end-of-life are essential to improved quality of life as well as to families that need bereavement support.

Investing in community resources is critical as majority of people benefit from compassionate communities that prevent isolation and foster social cohesion during serious illness, grief, and bereavement. As we mark the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2022 tomorrow on 8th October 2022 let us be part of alleviating suffering within our communities

Cervical cancer continues to rob us of our mothers, sisters, daughters and grandmothers, and threatens the fabric of our society.

In Kenya, nine women die from cervical cancer every day. It is the primary cause of cancer death among women in the country, and that number is projected to more than double (22 deaths per day) by 2040.

Almost all women are at risk of cervical cancer, because the human papillomavirus (HPV), which causes cervical cancer, is very common.
In developing countries, women often present with symptoms when it’s too late for treatment to be effective.

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable forms of cancer.
It can be prevented through the HPV vaccine, available free of charge in Kenya for 10-year-old girls.

Routine cervical cancer screening for women can help prevent cervical cancer, or find it early, when it’s easy to treat.
If detected early, cervical cancer is one of the most successfully treatable cancers.

We have a unique opportunity to prevent generations of women from suffering from a preventable disease.
It is easier and cheaper to treat cervical cancer if detected early.
We all have a role to play in cervical cancer prevention.
