In light of the global climate change challenge, the President initiated the National Tree Growing Restoration Campaign intending to cultivate 15 billion trees to restore 10.6 million hectares by 2032. During the tree planting exercise by the State Department of Public Health and Professional Standards led by the CS Ministry of Health Susan Nakhumicha, Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority was able to plant 250 trees
at Chepkalit Secondary, Chepkalit Primary School, and Chepkalit church in Lelan Forest, Pokot South Sub-County, within West Pokot County.
The Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority (KHPOA), is currently conducting follow up visits to the Kakamega County General Teaching and Referral Hospital and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital. The objective of the visit is to evaluate the status of implementation of the recommendations from previous joint health inspections on compliance of norms and standards in service delivery with possible upgrading of the hospitals. The Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority (KHPOA) established under the Health Act 2017 section 45(1), is mandated to provide oversight in training, registration, and licensing of health professionals. Further, section 48 (g) of the Act mandates the Authority to ensure the necessary standards for health professionals are not compromised by the regulatory bodies.
In line with this mandate, the Authority is currently conducting inspections of internship hospitals across the South Rift, Central, Western, and Nyanza regions. These inspections aim to gather baseline data on internship hospitals; assess the capacity to provide internship training programmes; document the internship standards set by respective regulatory bodies; and evaluate the coordination and reporting mechanisms for internship programs.

Dr. KIOKO Jackson, Chief Executive Officer, Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority (KHPOA), today joined The Kenya Medical Social Workersβ Association (KEMSWA) for their 10th National Training Workshop in Meru County.
Theme "Empowering Communities for Inclusive Healthcare: The Role of Medical Social Work in Kenya's Universal Healthcare Journey."
The CEO highlighted KHPOA's crucial role in oversight and regulation of the healthcare workforce, noting that ensuring a balanced mix of trained professionals including addressing diverse healthcare needs and fostering inclusive Primary Healthcare.
These efforts are key to achieving Universal Health Coverage goals, emphasizing the importance of Medical Social Workers to ensure provision of high-quality care for all Kenyans.
