Pochettino will be extremely pleased with what he has seen so far since taking over as Chelsea manager.

He took what was an extremely young Blues team to the United States to enter a Premier League Summer Series tournament where all five of the other teams involved finished above them in the league last season

This in itself will be a reason for them to be impressed, with them ending that tournament as champions following victories against Brighton and Fulham, as well as a hard fought draw with Newcastle United.

The game against the Bundesliga side saw the manager operate a strong team from the start, perhaps giving a sign as to who he was looking to feature in the Premier League opener next weekend against Liverpool.

Confidence may not have been too high at the start of the pre-season tour, however what the manager has achieved this summer is something that has not been done at the club since 2011.

In all of the fixtures he has took charge of, the Argentine went unbeaten, a feat the likes of Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte were unable to complete during their times in charge.

While the standard is obviously not what the Blues are expecting to find when the domestic season gets underway, but it is certainly a good foundation to build on.

They will be even more pleased with what they have achieved based off the dire campaign they are off the back of, where they finished 12th in the league.

Christopher Nkunku a doubt for Liverpool clash in blow to Chelsea ahead of Premier League opener

Nkunku is now a doubt to face Liverpool in the opening Premier League match at Stamford Bridge next weekend.

Pochettino gave an update on Nkunku’s condition after the 1-1 draw with Dortmund in Chicago.

He said: “The doctors are checking him and I hope it is not a big issue. He fell in the action which was maybe a penalty and he feels something in his knee but we hope it is nothing big.

“We hope he can be back quickly with the team. We need a few days to assess him.”

Pochettino says Chelsea will be ready when they meet Jurgen Klopp’s side on August 13: “We should be ready. It is not an option.

“There is only one option, to be ready and we are going to be ready. I think today we play a brilliant game, I think it was an exciting game against a very good team like Dortmund.

“I think we deserved to win but it’s not about the result, it’s about the feelings and performance and I think when we scored with Mason at the end it was a relief.

After a difficult time last season after he signed, his attitude and determination to improve has been amazing. When others are on holiday, he played for the senior team and then decided to play for the u21’s to get some form going.

Despite being a big money signing, he didn’t turn his nose up to the u21’s or look down on it but instead used it as an opportunity to play football and help his confidence.

He will be disappointed to go out in the semifinals and injuries stopped him playing more at the Euros but when he did play, in both games he looked very good against talented France and Spain teams. Getting 2 assists and also winning a penalty. Also should have got another assist tonight. Looking very sharp and taking on players with his skill and electric speed. He also got 2 assists with the senior team and has helped his country to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

He will have a little well earned break now and should be back at Cobham next week for Chelsea. Say what you want about him but you can’t question his desire to improve and be a better player. Exactly the type of character we need at Chelsea. Always working hard in the gym as well. He just needs to keep going and I’m sure he’ll shine under Poch. 💫🇺🇦
