Happy World Ranger Day 2024๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿ—๐ŸŽŠ
Today we celebrate the unsung heroes of wildlife conservation.
This year's theme is '30 by 30', which is based on the 2022 United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15), where it was agreed that 30% of the planet is effectively conserved and managed by year 2030.
At Maasai Mara, we are proud to support and work alongside wildlife game rangers. Together we have made significant strides in conservation efforts.
Educating & empowering the community on wildlife conservation, construction of water points that provide water for wildlife and community, plastic pollution control among other initiatives.
Join us in celebrating Wildlife Game Rangers and our shared efforts to create a sustainable and resilient future for all.
Happy ๐ŸŽŠ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒ

The Great Wildebeest migration in Kenya is one of the most spectacular wildlife events in the world. It occurs primarily in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, where over 1.5 million wildebeest, along with hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, migrate from Tanzania's Serengeti National Park to the Maasai Mara in search of fresh grazing and water.
Maasai Mara is elated to be part of the community that gets to experience the migration first hand. Our initiatives contribute to the sustainability of the Maasai Mara ecosystem that support wildlife allowing such annual remarkable experiences.

Did you know that hippos have their eyes, noses, and ears located on top of their heads? This unique feature allows them to breathe and see while mostly submerged in water. Additionally, they secrete an oily red liquid that protects their skin from drying out and acts as a natural sunscreen!๐Ÿค” Amazing, right?๐Ÿ˜ƒ
At Water 4 Wildlife, we protect the wildlife in the Maasai Mara conservancies through various initiatives. Our efforts ensure that animals like hippos can thrive with minimal interference from human activities.

It's International Plastic Free Day!๐Ÿฅณ
Did you know that over 380million tons of plastic are produced every year and that half of all plastic produced is single use and only 9% of it gets recycled?
The rest ends up littering the communities, landfills and oceans.
When wild and domestic animals swallow plastic,it makes the animals eat less, obtain less energy, weaken and may even lead to death. Larger pieces of plastic can also block their gastrointestinal tract so that the plastic can no longer be excreted!Water4Wildlife joins the rest of the world in celebrating this day and we say 'No' to single use plastics as we continue to educate and conserve the natural environment with the communities within the wildlife Maasai Mara ecosystem

Eco bins play a crucial role in promoting environmental conservation and cleanliness in schools and communities in the wildlife conservancy areas.
Eco bins have encouraged proper waste management which has in turn reduced the chances of wildlife and domestic animals around the Maasai Mara getting entangled and ingesting waste, which in most cases leads to death.
It has also created a greater sense of environmental responsibility.

The torrential rains in Kenya since March have led to devastating floods, posing significant threats to wildlife. These floods can wash away very young animals and nests, and they can also bring a range of health problems, including food shortages and increased risk of infection and disease. At ,we prioritize the protection of wild animals and their habitats through proper waste management to prevent washing down of plastic waste into the nearby rivers and their environs.

On Monday, 22nd April 2024, the world celebrated Earth's Day. This is an annual event to bring awareness to environmental causes, educate others on the importance of creating a more sustainable planet, encourage advocacy, and work to conserve the planet's biodiversity. This year's global theme, Planet vs. Plastic, resonates with our work to address environmental pollution in the Maasai Mara wildlife ecosystem.

Waste management infrastructure is underdeveloped, and this is witnessed through plastic pollution caused by leakages of domestic waste into the natural environment during heavy rains and extreme windy conditions. This increases the likelihood of floating plastic contamination discharged into nearby rivers, e.g., Mara and Talek rivers. The litter is also dispersed into the surrounding environment.

Not only does this give rise to open pollution, but it also causes serious injuries to animals and even results in death from choking or entanglement. We are working to address this issue! Together with our partners, we are finding effective solutions, including the construction of eco bins for proper waste disposal - creating a clean, healthy environment for our precious wildlife in their habitats.

"Water4Wildlife Maasai Mara's Initiatives to Combat Environmental Pollution in the Maasai Mara"

Environmental pollution is wreaking havoc on the delicate ecosystems of the Maasai Mara, taking a toll on both wildlife and livestock. Water4Wildlife Maasai Mara understands the urgent need for action and is committed to making a difference. That's why we are taking proactive measures to address this pressing issue. We are dedicated to educating our children from a young age, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a clean environment and the responsibility to collect litter that could harm our water bodies and conservation areas. By nurturing a sense of environmental stewardship in our youth and children, we are working towards a brighter and more sustainable future for the Maasai Mara, where our wildlife thrives, and our community's well-being is safeguarded.
