Kandy Animal Save
Kandy Animal Save is a group of volunteers who are dedicated to raise awareness by bearing witness to the suffering of animals exploited for food.
This is what every animals wants. 💚
Cows playing soccer with their human friend A generous donor bought the cows an exercise ball to play with. Yet, they'll only play it with their human friend Dan.
“A man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food; therefore, if he eats meat, he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite. And to act so is immoral.”
- Leo Tolstoy
No one should be living like this. 💔

I am not a test subject. I am a living being with the desire to live a life of love, peace, freedom and joy. I would love to spend the time with my family and play with my friends. I breath, eat, drink and sleep. And I love to live! 💚
Do not consume meat or other animal products that, according to the WHO
(World Health Organization), have the greatest risk of
transmission of zoonotic
diseases.

Let's not contribute to animals abuse; instead let's free them from abuse and make them feel loved.
How can we do that?
1. Becoming vegan.
2. Join hands with animal-save activists and become part of an animal-save movement.
3. Let your voice be heard and felt.
4. Help non-vegans see the suffering of animals possibly by inviting them to bear witness at a vigil.
5. Keep being there for the animals, with the animals to save them from suffering and free them to a loving animal sanctuary or natural habitat.
Animals deserve a strong movement, a movement of solidarity and unity.⠀
Empowering others, will empower our movement. ⠀
⠀
The hierarchical structures in our society have been, and still continue to be used to suppress and exploit marginalized groups belonging to different species, colors, genders, races, sexual orientations, ethnic groups, religious communities and so on. ⠀
⠀
Q***r and transgender people of color often take the lead in efforts for liberation and equality for all. It is crucial to look at these oppressions from their perspective and be allies of their movement. ⠀
⠀
Today when an uprising against racism is happening during Pride month, amplifying their voices has become more necessary than ever. We celebrate black and q***r activists who have, and are still, working to end oppression.⠀
⠀
Let’s hear their voices. Let’s be true allies. ⠀

via A pregnant elephant died on 27th May after a local allegedly fed her a pineapple filled with firecrackers in Kerala.
This kind of cruelty towards animals baffles us everyday. She walked in pain for many days until she finally gave up, denying any help from a rescue team because of her mistrust in humans.
Animals don't see humans as their oppressors until faced with it. They trust, and all we do is break it
Take this incident as an inspiration to speak up for forms of animal cruelty and help us reach our goal of granting them their right to life
The recent murders of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Regis Korchinski-Paquet and George Floyd prove that in a world where systematic inequality is ingrained into our society, there has never been a more urgent time to stand up against these atrocities.
Regardless of the victim’s race, colour or gender, oppression is never acceptable.
We need to unite as one and stand up against those who wish to cause harm to others.
If you are against racism and other forms of oppression, remaining silent is not the answer.
You need to take a stand and show the world that you will not tolerate the injustice of others. “Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are.” - Benjamin Franklin

Day 29 of No Meat May:
"When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help him."
- Leo Tolstoy
Vigils are a great way to bear witness. Kandy Animal Save will soon hold its first vigil. Stay with us for more info. on this.
Day 27 of No Meat May:
Day 26 of No Meat May challenge:
Day 25 of No Meat May challenge:
All caged animals suffer the stress of confinement.
What are some places that cage animals?
1. Zoos
2. Meat industries
3. Dairy industries
4. Labs
5. Pet shops
6. And even our homes if an animal is caged
How do they suffer?
First, animals are taken out of their natural habitats. Then they are placed in an improper environment which can never fulfill an animals needs.
For example, a bird in its natural habitat, if separated for a moment, call out to its fellow flock-mates. When a bird is caged it suffers loneliness. In the air, it flies freely. When caged, it can not flap its wings and fly, the one action that sets birds apart from other species of animals. A bird loses its freedom to find a mate, find food, and simply live on its own terms. A bird in a cage suffers physically and emotionally.
What is one way you maybe contributing to keeping animals caged? Are you a meat eater contributing to keeping animals caged in a meat industry? Are a vegetarian contributing to keeping animals caged in a diary industry? Do you have a pet that you keep caged in your home?
Next, how can you make sure that you stop contributing to such cruelty and instead set animals free to their natural habitat? Let us know in the comments below how you decide to set animals free from their confinement.

Day 20 of No Meat May: Post an article about an aquarium.
⠀
"aquariums are unnatural and unethical. ⠀
the fact is a simple one.⠀
⠀
the restrained environment of an aquarium can never permit captive animals to express the full capacity of their natural environments. for mammals such as orcas and dolphins, this is especially so.⠀
⠀
in the wild, these creatures live in intricate social groups and travel great distances in the free ocean. the tanks that are made to hold these mammals in an aquarium are equivalent to a bathtub, a bathtub in which they are destined to spend the rest of their lives.⠀
⠀
salvatore cardoni of takepart.com states, “in the largest aquariums, captive dolphins have access to less than one ten-thousandth of 1% of the swimming area available to them in the wild.” source: urban vegan⠀

⠀
via Protecting forests means protecting our home. But why do we keep on destroying it?⠀
⠀
Because of a food production system that, in order to meet the growing demand for animal products, requires the massive felling of virgin forests to make room for grasslands and monocultures of cereals and soya used as feed on farms.⠀
⠀
According to the IPCC, the change in the natural state of the forest by human activities is responsible for 23% of global greenhouse gas emissions, half from carbon dioxide emitted by felled forests and half from agriculture. If pre and post-production activities in the global food system are included, it is estimated that these activities are responsible for up to 37% of total greenhouse gas emissions.⠀
⠀
Deforestation also threatens the RESILIENCE of ecosystems. Have you ever heard of it?⠀
Everything is connected. Asking for a plant-based food system is an act of respect for the Earth, for all animals and other living beings that it hosts together with humans.⠀

Day 16 of No Meat May:
Fish are a species of animals that are vastly looked down upon. Most human-animals including fishermen care very less or not at all about the life of fish. All they care about is their own lives:
1. How to catch more fish so they can earn money.
2. How delicious fish taste.
3. Making money via entertaining people by exploiting fish in shows.
4. Creating an artificial habitat like ponds and fish tanks.
However, have you ever stopped to think about how these fish suffer?
These fish are forcefully taken out of water: One moment the school of fish are swimming around in the pleasant water. The next moment they are hoisted into the air where they struggle until their life end. This is the fate of a fish that ends up in a food plate.
Some fish are forced to live in ponds and tanks: These school of fish are exposed to tap water, which lack the natural mineral composition. And they swim around in a limited environment until their death.
Those fish such as dolphins used for entertainment purposes undergo harsh training: They are forced to act in ways unnatural to their normal behavior. They too are confined to living in limited space their entire life.
This is inhumane behavior. Fish deserve to live their life in the deep waters, in their natural habitats with freedom. They are beautiful animals deserving our love. Lets care to care about them.
💚

Day 12 of No Meat May
“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
Day 11 of No Meat May⠀
Speciesism is discrimination based on species which involves treating one or more species as morally more important than other species.⠀
⠀
Examples include: ⠀
1. Considering human-animals superior to other animals, while granting only human rights.⠀
2. Considering cats and dogs as friends but hens and cows as sources of food.⠀
⠀
But then again, this too differs from country to country, religion to religion and culture to culture. In Sri Lanka, killing a hen would not be considered a crime but killing a dog would be. While in China, killing a dog would not be a problem. Who is morally right? ⠀
⠀
As vegans, we feel that killing or exploiting any animal is wrong. All living beings must have the right to live a life of freedom in their natural habitats and die naturally. We humans are not the most important; all species of animals matter equally. Let's together eradicate speciesism. ⠀
⠀
Day 10 of No Meat May: Why should we be vegan? ⠀
⠀
Simple answer: For the animals⠀
⠀
Long answer: Non-human animals, like us humans, are living organisms. They breath, feel, eat, drink and reproduce. However, we humans have a superiority mindset that believes that we are the most important and dominant. We take control of this earth including the non-human animals. We exploit them as meat to satisfy our taste, we exploit them for our clothes to keep us warm, we exploit them for entertainment purposes to make us laugh, we exploit them as vehicles to carry our goods, we exploit them for milk to nourish us unnecessarily, we exploit them for detection purposes to keep us safe, and of course, those involved in these industries exploit these animals to make money. And we care less for these innocent animal friends. This is very selfish of us humans. ⠀
⠀
The animals in these industries suffer physical, mental and emotional trauma. If we were in such a position, we would be cursing those who are doing this to us. We would do anything to escape the cruelty that we are experiencing. So why do we allow these beautiful animals to undergo such pain? ⠀
⠀
The solution is to go vegan. ⠀

Day 08 of No Meat May: Write a Post about Pigs
research done shows that pigs are cognitively complex & have many traits found in animals we consider intelligent. suffice to say that they are sentient beings that do not deserve to needlessly suffer. i would like to add that our treatment of pigs should not be based on how 'intelligent' they are, rather, we must see them as sentient beings who are capable of suffering & undeserving of being commodified & exploited, regardless of how far up the scale their 'intelligence' is measured.

Day 04 of No Meat May: Share a fact about chickens—Here are some additional facts about chickens 💚⠀
⠀
International Respect for Chickens Day, May 4th is an annual project launched by the United Poultry Concerns in 2005 to celebrate chickens throughout the world and protest the bleakness of their lives in farming operations.
Respect for Chickens Day is the perfect time to educate others about these much under-appreciated birds. Despite their reputation, chickens are clever, social birds. They have self-awareness and the capacity to feel and suffer. And like other animals, they are exploited in many ways including;
Food
Over 9 billion are killed for food every year.
Research
Used to study cancer, vision, and embryonic development, as well as to produce vaccines and antibodies.Agriculture research on breeding and genetics.
Testing
Environmental toxicity testing.
Education
Chick hatching exercises.
More chickens are raised and killed for food than all other land animals combined, but if more people understood the complex nature of these interesting animals, they would probably hesitate before consuming their flesh or eggs.
