💫 “What can mathematics teach a philosopher? Mathematical ontology from Plato to Badiou" lecture will happen in EHU
Throughout history, mathematics has played a significant role in Western philosophy. French philosopher Alain Badiou believes that mathematics should become the basis of a new universal ontology, as it was in the time of Plato. However, today the barrier between the humanities and the “exact” sciences seems insurmountable. In the lecture we will try to talk about what modern mathematics can (and cannot) say about the world.
Listeners will learn why everyone misunderstands Gödel's theorem? What are the latest advances in the study of "busy beaver"? Is it possible to make a Universe out of mathematics alone? Why was Leibniz and Newton's mathematics wrong?
Date: 16th of July
Place: audience 221
Time: 12:00
The lecture is intended for a wide range of audiences interested in the humanities, philosophy and history of science.

Last Friday, June 7, in the Skaryna Hall of the European Humanities University, the ceremonial opening of the Skaryna Sign took place, which was created exclusively with the personal funds of teachers, employees and students!
The idea of creating this sculptural sign for the 500th anniversary of book printing in Vilnius belongs to the professors of the Department of Humanities and Arts U. Dauhiala, A. Kalbaska and S. Chareuski.
The sculptural composition was made in Belarus. Finally, it took its place of honor in the historical walls of our university.
A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this event! Together we can do good and beautiful things worthy of the memory of our great first printer - Francysk Skaryna!
🌍 The annual International Student Conference "Europe 2024: Challenges and Opportunities through the Eyes of Future Specialists" took place at EHU on May 28-29, 2024. This event continued a decade-long tradition of student scientific gatherings.
The conference fostered an intellectually intense, friendly, and interactive atmosphere. It brought together young researchers and creative practitioners from various fields, including political science, law, economics, media, sociology, gender studies, art, and cultural heritage. Over two days, participants shared their achievements and discussed contemporary challenges and opportunities.
Highlights included the panel "HOMO FABER: WHO ARE YOU?" on socio-humanitarian issues and identity, and Victoria Kiryltsava's creative project on the experiences of children of Belarusian emigrants. Other panels focused on international peace and security, artificial intelligence, and Europe's new geopolitical strategy.
First-year students Sergei and Katerina, who moderated sessions, found the experience empowering and crucial for public speaking skills.
The inspiring atmosphere on both days was reminiscent of "Ode to Joy," uniting young minds with a shared aspiration for a free, happy, and democratic future.
Thank you to all participants! Keep exploring, creating, and developing. See you at "Europe 2025"!
