📈 Lithuania is rising again!

This year, Lithuania is leading the Baltic countries in the Global Competitiveness Ranking, positioned 30th among 67 most developed countries 🌍. In the annual ranking compiled by the IMD World Competitiveness Centre, Lithuania has climbed two positions.

The top-ranked countries are Singapore 🇸🇬, Switzerland 🇨🇭, and Denmark 🇩🇰. Estonia 🇪🇪 ranks 33rd, and Latvia 🇱🇻 is 45th.

🏆 The high position in the ranking sends a strong signal to foreign investors that Lithuania is a good country to invest in and do business.

In comparison to 2023, we have made progress in the efficiency of the public sector, and Lithuania's regulatory environment for business, the creation of new businesses, and the management of public finances are highly regarded. 📊

ATHENA opportunity: Google Career Scholarships for VILNIUS TECH students

The ATHENA European University Alliance, which includes VILNIUS TECH, has an exciting opportunity for all ATHENA students – 50 Google Career Scholarships are now available exclusively for members of the ATHENA Alliance. These scholarships provide access to educational resources and opportunities aimed at enhancing students' skills and employability.

This initiative is made possible by the strategic collaboration between Google and Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS), an associated partner of the ATHENA European University Alliance. The said collaboration was initiated in 2023 and positioned CUAS as the sole university in Austria authorized to deliver innovative learning opportunities through Google-affiliated courses.

In celebration of European Day, a symbol of peace and solidarity in Europe, let's get to know each other better. We are excited to extend a warm invitation to the international VILNIUS TECH community for an enlightening lecture, join us to gain deeper insights into Lithuania's journey as we host political scientist Linas Kojala for an exclusive lecture in English titled "Unlock Lithuania: How It Became a Strong and Independent Country?". European Day commemorates the spirit of unity across the continent. Linas Kojala, a distinguished political scientist, commentator, lecturer, and director of the Eastern European Studies Centre (RESC), will guide us through a profound exploration of Lithuania's past and present. He will help us better understand Lithuania's past and present, our values and struggles for freedom, the challenges Lithuania had to overcome when becoming a member of NATO as well as the European Union (EU) — marking the 20th anniversary of our membership—and Lithuania's principled stance on the conflict in Ukraine instigated by the aggressor country.

The lecture "Unlock Lithuania: How It Became a Strong and Independent Country?" will be conducted in English, so we especially invite the entire international VILNIUS TECH community - students and teachers from abroad.

Duration of the lecture - 1 hour.

During the event, photos will be taken and later posted on social media and the vilniustech.lt website. By attending, you acknowledge that images of you may also be publicized.

Many are not surprised to see a higher price tag on sustainable products, but is sustainability really expensive? The path of such products to store shelves may indeed cost more, but in everyday life, sustainable habits often lead to saving rather than spending - says Dr. Ruta Mikucioniene, the coordinator of Sustainability programs at VILNIUS TECH. According to her, a sustainable way of life begins with the right attitude and small but significant decisions.

An official meeting was held at VILNIUS TECH with the H. E. The new World Happiness Report 2024 is out! Lithuania has made its mark as one of the 20 happiest countries in the world (19th place).
This year’s report is the first to include separate rankings by age group.
What's truly remarkable is that our young generation, aged below 30, has clinched the top spot in the ranking! It's a testament to the optimism of our youth. Meanwhile, our elders, those aged 60 and above, hold 44th place in the ranking, which gives us reason for concern.
Once again, Nordic countries are leading the way with the highest scores. Finland, holding onto its top ranking for seven years straight, remains at No. 1. Denmark ranks second, and Iceland ranks third.
The World Happiness Report underscores the importance of using comprehensive metrics beyond economic indicators to measure national happiness. It highlights the significance of collaboration between governments, researchers, and citizens in gathering accurate data and promoting happiness.
By fostering social connections and prioritizing mental health, we can continue to enhance the well-being of our society.

New Nanosystems engineering study program: students to compete for a monthly scholarship of 1400 EUR

One of the leading Lithuanian institutions, VILNIUS TECH, presents a unique international Nanosystems Engineering study program. The two-year Master's program will start this autumn, and students from Lithuania as well as other countries are invited to apply, according to a press release.

"The new joint study program was developed by five European technology universities. It supports the region's transition from primarily being a consumer of digital technical equipment to becoming a global leader and supplier in the internet of things and cyber-physical system technologies. The goals of the Green courses will also be implemented. To achieve this, we aim to discover and nurture innovators in related technologies and engineering disciplines, which are essential for this transformation," says Prof. Dr. Sarunas Paulikas, Dean of the Faculty of Electronics at VILNIUS TECH.

Embedded Intelligence Nanosystems Engineering (EMINENT) is the name of the joint Erasmus Mundus Master's program. It was developed by representatives from four European technology universities that belong to the ATHENA University Alliance: the University of Siegen in Germany, the University of Orléans in France, the Mediterranean University of Greece, and VILNIUS TECH. The New University of Lisbon in Portugal also contributed to the program's development.

Over the course of two years, the study program is designed to acquire knowledge and skills in nanomaterials, nano-production technologies for smart devices and sensors designed to operate in cyber-physical systems (CPS) and internet of things solutions. It has also been awarded international AQAS accreditation, indicating the program's compliance with high-quality and other requirements in the world of higher education.

Up to 35 students from Europe and third countries annually will be invited to this study program. Those wishing to apply should submit their applications on the EMINENT program's website by March 1st: https://eminent-master.eu/

✅the possibilities of using plastic waste for the development and production of other products will be demonstrated, using the principles of circularity and ecological design.
