Parami Institute of Continuing Education

Parami Leadership Program, (2) Parami Talk Series, and (3) Parami Conference.

1) Parami Leadership Program (PLP), a flagship program at Parami Institute, will be a semester-long (2 × 2 months) multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary program designed to nurture leadership and liberal education skills such as critical thinking, interdisciplinary analysis, and articulate communication as well as research skills among recent graduates from universities in Myanmar. We will recruit sixteen exceptional students from various ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds to promote the importance of diversity. The prospective students will be evaluated through a PLP entrance test and a rigorous interview. Those from border or migrant areas will be provided housing in Yangon. The language of instruction will be English.

2) Parami Talk Series (PTS) will be monthly talk series featuring high-level speakers from Myanmar and around the world, speaking on global and local issues of the 21st century. It is anticipated that half of the speakers would be invited from regional countries and hosted in Yangon for two nights with the support of Parami Institute. These series will be mediated or presented by members of Parami University Founding Committee. This program will highlight the intricate and complex issues that require 21st century skills such as interdisciplinary problem solving and critical thinking, the hallmarks of liberal education. The talks will be public events with some reserved seats for some guests, while the other seats will be available on a nominal-fee ticket or deposit-fee ticket service to ensure maximum attendance. In addition, the talks will be recorded and made available on our website and YouTube.

3) Parami Conference (PC) will be a biannual event held at Parami Institute to gather teachers, academics, and educators from many schools across Yangon and around the country with the mission to promote liberal education in a more coordinated fashion. PC will include workshops, trainings, seminars, talks, and panel discussions on liberal education and the promotion of liberal education across Myanmar. In addition, there will be workshops on how to design and cultivate a strong sense of trusteeship and governance in Myanmar higher education. PC will become an ideal place to provide opportunities to form collaborative research and publish scholarly articles on Myanmar education. This program will become the basis for forming a society of liberal education, which will eventually be equipped to provide much needed assistance to Myanmar government educational bodies.
