Our Story

With a commitment to creating change agents from all walks of life, Parami Institute is a multi-platformed educational organization working with Myanmar’s young people to give them the skills they need to become effective leaders and responsible citizens through a rigorous, globally-minded liberal arts education.

Parami Institute is comprised of three major programs: (1) The core Parami Leadership Program, (2) the monthly Parami Talk Series, and (3) the bi-annual Parami Conference.

  • At the heart of Parami Institute is the Parami Leadership Program (PLP), an interdisciplinary program for promising university graduates in Myanmar. Now a full year program, we select 30-34 students from across the country to study liberal arts and sciences courses with professors who hold degrees from internationally-recognized universities. All students participate in a series of engaging courses in the sciences, humanities, social sciences, and arts. Our aim is to nurture students’ critical thinking, interdisciplinary analysis, and articulate communication skills through an intensive liberal arts curriculum. More information on our curriculum, faculty, the application process, tuition & fees, and financial assistance can be found here.

  • The public Parami Talk Series (PTS) is a monthly event that invites high-level speakers from Myanmar and abroad to discuss global and local issues of the 21st century. Exploring a variety of pressing issues for our country and our world, this program invites the community to come together to engage with “big picture” issues through discussions not unlike those that take place within the Parami classroom. Talks are public, ticketed events, held in either English or Burmese. We post the registration link on our page prior to the event, so be sure to like our page to stay aware of upcoming talks!

  • Started this year, the Parami Conference is a biannual event that brings together educators, academics, and policy-makers from across the country to discuss the future of education in Myanmar. Parami hosts these events with the mission to promote and exemplify the possibility of bringing liberal education to Myanmar in a more coordinated fashion. Our first conference, held in July 2018, brought nearly 100 guests from across various education sectors together to discuss accreditation and assessment practices both internationally and domestically. Through these conferences, Parami Institute hopes to guide the national conversation on education towards models that can successfully bring high-quality education to Myanmar’s young people.
