What a week it’s been at the Straits Summer Society! Week 3 of our Summer Holiday Programme turned math into a fun adventure for our Math Explorers.

Our young mathematicians got creative, crafting stunning geometric artworks and baking delicious chocolate chip cookies, all while mastering measurements and fractions. 🍪📐

The excitement continued with trips to Zoo Taiping, where they explored the wonders of wildlife, and the Penang Interactive Museum, where interactive exhibits brought history and art to life. 🐾🎨

Meet Therence, a dedicated student at Straits International School, who's diving deep into Mandarin and getting ready for the HSK exam. For Therence, learning Mandarin isn’t just about mastering a language. "It's about connecting with my friends and embracing new cultures," he says. Mandarin is more than just a language to him; it's a bridge to better friendships and deeper connections. Studying for the HSK exam isn’t always easy. Therence acknowledges the pressure and the vast amount of material to learn, but he believes in understanding rather than just memorising.

Week 2 of the Straits Summer Society (Summer Holiday Programme) was all about sensory exploration and discovery! Our students delved into the wonders of our sensory room, engaging with a multitude of tastes, textures, sounds, smells, and sights, sparking their curiosity even further. 🎨👂👃👅👀

The excitement continued with trips to the Tropical Spice Garden and Tropical Fruit Farm, where students documented their experiences discovering a variety of spices, plants, and fruits. 🌿🍍✍️

Throughout the year of 2023/24, our curious confident minds have been battling for their house teams to win the coveted House Championship. The competition between Burung Kelayang, Harimau, Naga, and Rusa has been intense, with each team giving their best to emerge victorious.

During the Straits House Championship, the final points were tallied, and it was a chance for all houses to make their final push. We are delighted to congratulate Harimau House on winning this year’s House Championship! As a reward for their hard-fought victory, they enjoyed a celebratory buffet and party.

To all the other houses, don’t worry – try again next year! Your determination and spirit have been incredible, and we know you’ll come back stronger.

Throwback to our recent English class, Ms. Hannah introduced an innovative approach by having students create their own medicinal formulas. This creative exercise blended language skills with practical science, requiring students to research and understand various ingredients.
