Such an honour to be a Speaker at the Malaysia Medical Association (MMA) Congress 2024.

This medical congress is organised by MMA (Malaysia Medical Association) , the largest body of doctors in Malaysia.

It was such a privileged to be sharing and exchanging knowledge and experiences with others esteemed doctors from various specialties.

Blur vision is a common symptom amongst the elderly population. However, in Malaysia, its awareness is greatly lacking and many assumed that having blur vision with age is a 'Normal' part of aging.

Some old folks just brush it off as they does not wish to burden their children. However, this leads to risk of falling, injury, hip fractures, missing steps, car accidents, and depression.

I am hoping that my presentation -
Aging gracefully with healthy eyes, will create more awareness to encourage the elderly to screen their eyes early and get treated for blur vision.

Quality of life can improve greatly with good vision.

The American Association of Opthalmology (AAO) recommends that everyone over the age of 40 to get a comprehensive baseline eye check.
Everyone over the age of 65 is recommended to check their eyes every 1-2 years. While this is widely practiced overseas, we are lacking awareness and care for eye health.

Together, we strive in providing better eyecare and vision to our patients.

Glaucoma is one of the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide.

Having said that 84% of Malaysians today do not know what is Glaucoma.

Glaucoma is known as “The Silent Thief of Sight” because, in its early stages, there are often NO symptoms.

Once symptoms appear, permanent vision loss and nerve damage may have occurred.

The American Academy of Ophthalmogy (AAO) recommends that everyone above the age of 40 years old to get a baseline eye Funduscopy examination. Glaucoma has no symptoms and can be detected through early eye screening.

Feel free to see your eye specialists for early eye screening and timely management.

It was fate and such a blessing to meet John Yeo, an old friend, from Welch Allyn.

I bought my very first Ophthalmoscope - Welch Allyn Diagnostic Set from John Yeo about 20 years ago.

This was my very first ophthalmoscope which allowed my to visualised the beautiful retina for the very first time. Thanks to John, this had helped me * spark joy* instantly towards Opthalmology. I thought that the retina was the most beautiful thing ever!

I am glad to welcome John and his wife, Lina to my clinic for their eye check and follow-up.

And guess what? After nearly 20 years, the Welch Allyn Ophthalmoscope and Otoscope is still functioning!! No joke!

So happy today to receive a lovely gift from a sweet patient of mine. She baked the loaf of sourdough bread herself!! I am so blessed and touched. Sourdough bread is not easy to bake as need a lot of time and patience.... need to feed the starter, need to fold multiple times, let it rest and takes time amd effort to achieve the end produce. Today was a fruitful talk on Aging Gracefully with Healthy Eyes, Cataracts Facts & Myth.

We had an interactive insightful q+a session with over 20 questions! Surprisingly the 20 minutes session extended to almost an hour!

I am glad to share some information and create eyecare awareness.

Blur vision is a common problem amongst the elderly and it is often neglected. Some elderly attribute not being able to see as part of 'getting old'. This results in restriction of their daily living, frequent falls, motorvehicle accidents and accidental-self-injury. For all we know, their blur vision may be easily treatable and they can enjoy doing the things they used to do; such as watching television and playing with their grandchildren.

The American Academy of Opthalmology recommends a baseline eye screening for everyone age 40 and above. They also avocate for annual eye checks for people age 65 and above every 1-2 years. Early screening and early treatment can save sight and improve quality of life!

If you know anyone elderly with blur vision, whether friends or relative, parents, uncles, aunties or grandparents, do bring them to the eye specialists to have a look. We can make a difference!!

It is such a privilege to present an educational eye talk to a group of fun and cool people! I am happy meet such awesome people !! So glad to be able to spread awareness as well as share knowledge and experience with the team... a fruitful discussion session with active participants... There is certainly new things to learn each day!

This lovely patient of mine stopped by my clinic today, beaming with happiness. Witnessing her joy following surgery was such a delight!

I could still recall how nervous she was when she initially came to the clinic. Both eye vision was blurred, and she presented late because of her anxiety.

Post surgery, with her perfect vision, she could watch her favourite TV dramas. The only thing was, she wished that she had done her surgery earlier, so she could have enjoyed the benefits earlier.

She was very happy to share her experience and hope that others who have similar problems will see their eye doctor for help too!
