In 2017, Dominic entered into a fateful partnership with 2OX French Restaurant at Slate, The Row, Jalan Doraisamy, a historic street that has undergone strategic urban renewal projects in recent years.

Under his measured stewardship, the establishment has routinely been recognized as one of the best French restaurants in town. While Dominic started in the position of head chef, he took on a new mantle in 2021, becoming its director. Since then, the restaurant has seen a 180-degree turn—think sleeker branding and more straightforward (but no less sublime) offerings.

In addition to running regular restaurant hours, the temple to French fare offers catering complete with refined canapes, and throws in-house events.

When we shifted the direction of the restaurant exactly a year ago, we approached Adli, a local artist, also a great friend of ours, to do a statement painting for Restaurant Dominic.

His current body of work engages with painting abstractly as a vehicle of spirituality and self- healing. The practice of painting abstractly, and reflecting, became an important way of re- investigating the self, as it provides an arena for him to embrace chance and mishaps in his practice, consequently transcending into his everyday. This proposition is further accessed through investigating east Asia’s mythological symbols and folklores, in this case the koi fish, as a way to bridge the gap between old world Asian philosophies and the contemporary world.

To combine with Dominic's direction, Adli then connected the painting with the old French city of Marseilles, Chef Dominic's origin.

"I thought a lot about what has managed to remain unchanged in the city, even as time passed by. I was inspired by the white sandy beaches, the peculiar blue blanketing the skies, the bright yellow of the sun, and the terracotta roofs providing shelter for its inhabitants; all the while imagining the subtle breeze that would gently caress my face as I walk along the hidden alleys of Marseilles"
