SECRETARIAT MESSAGE TO CELEBRATE YEAR 2022 FOUNDER'S DAY OF THE BOYS' BRIGADE.

Congratulations to The Boys' Brigade worldwide, on the occasion of the year 2022 Founder's Day. Sir Williams A. Smith, who was born on 27th October, 1854 is being celebrated today, the last Sunday in the month of October. A man who dedicated his all for you and myself, for the betterment of the Boy Child.

It was at a time when youths were pulling themselves from God, saw no need to listen and be obedient during Sunday School lessons, and not even him could bring them to order. He thought of why hundreds of men will obey him on Saturdays (through the First Lanarkshire Rifles) but why teens/youths will confidently disobey him. And with his thinking, he came up with the idea of The Boys' Brigade.

We appreciate God for his life well spent and as a father, grand father, great grand father which he is to us, I urge everyone of us to learn the following lessons from his life:

1. Never used his background as an excuse.

Sir Williams A. Smith lost his Dad at a very young age. He fought series of battles growing up as the eldest child of his parents, but didn't allow that to turn him into a hooligan or irresponsible individual, as he has no record of being wanted by the police or charged to court.

2. Dedication to God's work.

Sir. Williams A. Smith was a Sunday school teacher, it was in this department that the vision came to him. He was never too busy for God, which has now made him the founder of the foremost Uniformed Organization in the world, whose name is alive. He worked for God, and God made things work for him. During his lifetime, he ensured that The Boys' Brigade is always for Christ and not for other interest.

3. Did well in various aspects.

Who would have thought, a Boy from the trenches, whose father is dead and the eldest child, managing his uncle's business could perform so well academically. Sir Williams A. Smith's one and only term in school was a success for him, as he took several prizes for the term.

4. Social strength.

Sir. Williams A. Smith during and after establishing the foremost organization, worked with several people whose ideas he combined to project the Organization into greatness. The likes of, the Hill brothers, Williams H. Parker and others. He discovered the importance of socializing, which he did so well and helped him progress.

Lots of other lessons can be learnt from the man, who said "If I am to be remembered by posterity, I'll like it to be as the man who taught people to spell Boy with the Capital 'B'."

Happy Celebrations once again, and I urge us all to work the more for the advancement of Christ's Kingdom, taking off our special interest but rendering a selfless service for the ministry.

1. Attend Boys' Brigade programmes such as camps and trainings to refresh your knowledge.

2. Bring ideas on interesting programmes for both Company and Battalion level.

3. Have it in mind that the progress of the organization lies in your hands.

4. Be a member, not with mouth but by actions and behaviours.

Remain sure and steadfast in Christ Jesus.

Secretary, Ado Battalion Council

BBIP Capacity Building Webinar Invitation

Youths constitute more than half the population in many developing countries, young people participate less than older citizens in most formal political processes, such as elections.

This challenges the representativeness of the political system and leads to the disenfranchisement of young citizens. It can also reinforce stereotypes that treat young people as disinterested in political issues, as objects of social policy or as troublemakers.

Debates about youth political participation have therefore centered mainly on motivating youth to vote and preventing youth groups from resorting to political violence.

As the 2023 General Election of the Federal Republic of Nigeria draws nearer, with series of ongoing political activities. The Boys' Brigade been an organization for the youths has a role to play by involving her members through political awareness.

It is on this note, that our dear Platform, invites the BB Family and the General Public to her Capacity Building Webinar 2.2 with focus on the 2023 General Election; Enhancing Youth Political Participation throughout the Electoral Cycle .

Democracy is a participatory system that requires the input of the majority for decisions to be made on who gets what, when, how and why. However with the current political apathy being experienced in Nigerian elections, most expecially among the Youths, this all important role is left in the hands a few and are most times less than a half of those qualified to do so.

However, the recent surge in the number of Youths showing interest in political activities shows that this narrative is changing. In a bid to sustain this trend, the Media Consult of the Boys Brigade Nigeria, Ekiti State Council presents a Symposium titled *THE ROLE OF THE YOUTHS IN SUSTAINING DEMOCRACY*

This online symposium is organized in honour of the *Ag. State Secretary-Organizer, Mr Olawale Silas Oluwanifemi* and in celebration of his Birthday. Olawale Silas is an Omoluabi, a profound and progressive youth who understands and always promotes the place of the youth in democracy and good Governance. He's a serving member of Ekiti State Youth Parliament where he serves as the Sergeant at Arm. He's also a full time member of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Ekiti State Chapter and was once the Chief of Staff to the State Chairman.

The symposium hopes to encourage Youths to sustain the recent trend of active political participation among them, bringing to beer the benefits of doing so and how our I don't care nature have brought us where we currently are. Our resource person, Mr Victor Adeyemo is a Youth worker, advocate and political analyst with a wealth of experience in participatory democracy and good Governance. He's ready to dish out this knowledge and would be available to answer your questions on the subject matter.

The symposium would be held online via Zoom and aired live on the State Council's page. We look forward to having Youths accross Ekiti and beyond attend this program as there are also other side attractions in the pipeline for this event.

See you there.

And Jesus said, “Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:26).

The Ado Battalion Council of the Boys' Brigade Nigeria, Ekiti State Coumcil, received with an heavy heart the news of the demise of a Valuable Trainer and Teacher of the Boys' Brigade Nigeria, Evang. Madung P. Dung, who gave up the ghost at the early hours of today after a long time illness.

As a family in Christ, we share in the loss and pray the Lord grants the immediate family of the good teacher, the fortitude to bear the loss. And may his soul continue to rest at the feet of the Lord, till we all meet to part no more.
