The soul inclines towards justice. Injustice is unnatural to the soul. Everything created has a purpose to serve, and that purpose is deemed to be its end. The eye was created to give sight while the ear was created to give hearing. These purposes can be said to be their end. What is the purpose of an eye that cannot give sight or an ear that cannot give hearing? I the eye and the ear were to become conscious, their inability to serve their end would give them lots of sorrow.
The same argument can be made for a person who does not than injustice, a person who is ready to go to any length to get his or her desire not minding who he hurts in achieving that. That person is not serving his end; that soul is doing things that are unnatural to its existence. Even if he has a valley full of gold and a mountain full of wealth, that person can never be comfortable or happy with himself, he will constantly live in a state of fear and trepidation. Sorrow and anguish will be his lot and end.
This is my understanding of the argument of Socrates and Thrasymachus in The Republic written by Plato. The book is a lot to take in. You have to pause at times after reading a page to digest the philosophy being espoused.
It's an argument between Justice and Injustice, which one is superior. Still digging and I am enjoying every bit of it.

Still raging on is the topic domestic violence, lot have been said already, I needn' add but tell about three friends and their and their wives; DEJI, DANTE, SOJI, ROMOKE and AISHA to pass a message and to ask a question. The reason for this exercise is as a result many things I have seen from Posts, preachings of men of God, saying "No matter what your wife do to you hitting her only shows how weak you are".

DEJI
is a cool headed tall handsome guy who works for an advertising company and has rose in rank overtime due to promotion. His life is moving the way he wants it except for the fact that his mother is down with a terminal disease and he is the one taking care of her. To sustain her there is a drug she uses every two weeks. People always pity him because of his mother's illness, and at the same time love him because of his devotion to his mother and would pray for him and even wish to have a son like him. Omoluabi ni Deji

" Taking care of my mum has never been a burden to me" he once said to his two friends, Dante and Soji........."My dad died when I was Eight,, the least I can do is to take care of her because she took care of me"

Soji-- with assurance, "You are doing more than enough, I don't have a father, my mum was a psycho, I have never felt love from any of them, so I don't know how giving back love feels like.... I think you are doing fine"

Beyond the fact that Deji's mum was responsible for all he has achieved, Deji always felt that taking care of his mum brings him God fortune, in fact, he thinks that is responsible for his success and elevation at work and all aspect of his life. So, he love his mum very much.

Soji--
Soji had it rough growing up. His home was a battle ground between his mum and dad. It wasn't meant to be like that and in fact, it was not Iike that in the very beginning. It was warm and romantic between his mum and dad and everything was calm. The moment his mother knew that his father fathered a child outside with another woman everything changed between them. How love turned to dislike and extreme hatred that fast still amazes him. That resentment finally led to his mum killing his dad while sleeping.

When he was young he has always wondered and even in his adult life it still baffles him how love can suddenly turned to hatred. He has always felt that love is the most beautiful thing there is and that there is nothing love cannot forgive or overlook but his experience with his parents has changed and solidify his view otherwise. So the statement love is blind is all a lie, love sees but just decided to look the other way and when love decides to see clearly, it is always brutal.

To him love is feeble and fragile and can change to hate in a split seconds. The mere fact that love is fragile and unpredictable it Shouldn't be the foundation of a marriage institution

He has communicated this feelings more than once and restated it recently when Deji was trying to convince him;

Soji--- "Deji, enough with this your poetry about love.....see, I tell those who care to listen; love is an exaggerated feeling which should not be the foundation of an important institution such as marriage. If love remain the foundation of such institution, I don't want to have anything to do with it"....Dante raises the bottle of beer in front of him to signify concordance with Soji.

DEJI shook his head pitifully for YOYIN as DANTE is popularly called.

True to his words, Soji has never had a girl friend, doesn't intend having one, nor does he ever intend to get married. Though Deji is trying to change his opinion but Dante has never supported Deji. Birds of a feather Deji will say whenever he hit a rock with them

DANTE

Dante is a divorcee, though once married to the love of his life but things changed quickly between them and what was once considered a union made in heaven turned vile. When people ask Romoke and Dante why their marriage did not work both can't give any logical reason but it just didn't work. Both love each other but it seems it will take more than love for the marriage to work.

Romoke is hot tempered who gets angry easily and when angry can throw anything at her disposal. In fact, the famed nick name of her husband, YOYIN, was christianed to him during one of her episode. An incident happened between her and DANTE and she threw an unbreakable plate at Dante, all effort by DANTE to dodge the flying plate prove abortive as the plate swerve mid- air towards Dante forcefully pulling out one of his tooth.

DANTE wasn't free from blame also as his reckless attitude of wh***ng and gambling was a constant worry for Romoke. Dante with ego thinks Romoke is controlling and won't accept that; Romoke thinks Dante is unreasonably sturborn and as a reason doesn't deserve reasonability from her too. It got to a stage where they were not able to manage their conflict with dialogue again and it led to violence. This continue for a long time before their eventual divorce.

DEJI was the only one who is yet to get married and will always rave about his fiance, AISHA and her angelic character.

One day at Aisha's place, DEJI, DANTE and SOJI were invited as guest to celebrate Aisha's mum retirement. It was a palour party but there was plenty to drink and eat. The three friends situate their tent at the Eastern part of the house, as usual, in front of Dante was a his favorite beer, Guiness smooth, in front of Soji was Trophy. DEJI opened a Malta Guiness and poured himself a drink. Dante brought out a small plastic of Gin and poured some Into a glass cup already filled with beer. DEJI traced Dante's hand with a Corner of his eyes and shook his head in disgust.

Deji----"You are damaging your kidney, I wonder what you guys enjoy in this things"

Dante---- Pastor, don't start, did I borrow your kidney?......Soji laughed

Aisha approaches with a bowl filled with meat garnished with pepper.....she smiled at the two friends while she placed the bowl on the table. She wispers something Into DEJI'S ear and hurriedly left.

Dante wispers something into SOJI'S Ear and they both laughed. curious, Deji asked whats funny, he knew they were laughing at Aisha but couldn't fathom why.

Soji--- Dante don't be a coward, say it loud......Dante continue to laugh.....Ok, I will say what he said.....Dante said......Soji burst laugh, both Dante and Soji continue laughing at DEJI'S bemused face. Soji stopped laughing, brought out a hankerchief, whisk away the water falling off his eyes.........ok..ok...Dante said he hopes that your fiance character is as beautiful as she looks. A sigh of relief left DEJI'S nose and he smiled, obviously he was feeling uneasy when DANTE AND SOJI was making him look like a fool.

Deji---- Every woman you see out there isn't like Romoke and definitely not like your mum, Soji.....

DEJI'S word hit them hard but they kept it under control.

Soji--- you really believe Aisha is an angel capable of no wrong.

DEJI---- no doubt

Dante----So you think she cannot do anything that will make you raise your hand to beat her.

Deji---- Absolutely...I trust her.

Dante--- Do you think everyone that beats their wives always go into marriage with that mindset?

Deji---- well, what can I say, the actual act of beating her makes it seem so.

Soji--- My Cousin, brother Tade is as gentle as a dove, he never raised his hand to beat his wife's despite his wife excesses. One day the issue of his children paternity came into question and it turned out that 2 out of his three children weren't his. He asked his wife gently, his wife confirmed it and began to justify her action. He got angry, broke her nose and left hand.........would you blame brother Tade

Deji---- Yes......what are you saying SOJI, there are many ways to handle situations without resorting to violence. Did that act of violence change his children paternity. What am I even saying........ it seems violence runs in your family's blood. He smiled mischievously

Soji wanted to talk but DANTE held his shoulder and he kept quiet

Dante--- so brother TADE was weak....Deji nodded in affirmative

Dante--- I must have been very weak and foolish to beat Romoke, isn't it. Do you know everyone has their breaking point. I pray that your angel don't push you beyond that point someday.

Deji---- Yes you are weak, see, a man is suppose to be mature and calm under tension. If he has not attained that level of maturity he should stay single just like Soji

Soji laughed.....were no Bobo yii Sha...they both laughed

Deji continued.."There is no excuse reasonable enough for a man to beat his wife"

Soji--- Deji, Never say never. Those things you condemn in others are in you. My prayer for you is may you not face the circumstances that will put you in a position to beat your wife.

Deji---- abeegi, those that allows circumstances to determine their behavior are weak.

Weakness uhh!! Soji chuckled.

Two years latter, Deji got married to Aisha, the wedding was the talk of town. Shortly after the wedding, Deji got promoted again, now as a regional manager. All was well as Deji and Aisha lived happily untill one Saturday where Deji had to go to the office for a presentation. It was an impromptu meeting that requires Deji to be present. Though Deji's company has been lobbying this particular company, Deji's company want to handle advertisement for the company both locally and Internationally. In fact, it was Deji that prepared the proposal sent to the company three months earlier. So, his prescence on that Saturday is non-negotiable.

Unbeknownst to him, the life sustaining drugs his mother uses has finished and his mother had sent him a message. He did not see the message until Saturday morning because he was helping Aisha in the kitchen and after that went upstairs to perform husband duties.He was already late for the meeting when he saw the message on Saturday morning. There was no way he could rush to buy the drugs for his mum and still meet up on time for the meeting, so he simply called his wife as he was rushing down the stairs to help him get the drugs for his mum, he dropped the money for the drugs on the dinning and further informed her that he won't be taking the vehicle to office for her ease of movement.

When Deji came back, tired, he lethargically entered into the sitting room, Aisha was sitting on the couch surffing the net.... Deji asked,

"Did you get the drugs I asked you to for maami......Aisha kept quiet.

Deji---- how is maami, did you get the drugs

Aisha snapped; "what is all these questions about, you went out since you are coming back now the first thing is did I buy the drugs for maami. No greeting, no nothing, maami ko. Am I your slave, I am your wife not your slave"

Surprised at Aisha's outburst, he looked at the dinning table where he left the money , the money was still there, he pulled of his suit and unknot his tie, pick the money on the dinning table, picked his car keys on the centre table and walk towards the door. Aisha charged at him.....

"Where are you going?.... she asked furiously.

Deji---- Aisha stop all these now...step out of the way...... What has come over you? Let me go and get the drugs for maami. It's over 12 hours now, she ought to have used her drugs.

Aisha----So...sooo , i won't allow you go out. You left me in this office since morning, you came back, no greetings, no anything, you did not even ask me how i was doing, the first thing you said was maami, maami, am I not a person too. You are not going anywhere, if you want to beat me, beat me

Aisha held Deji's cloth.......one thing led to another DEJI beat Aisha mercilessly and she was hospitalized.

Be realistic, if you were Deji what will you do.

This is not to glorify domestic violence but just trying to be realistic. Just like Soji mentioned to Deji........The right prayer is may we not be put in such circumstance or position where no other option is available than hitting our wives.

Do not judge, do not condemn, what you condmn in others is in you.

We are all evil, no one is a saint. Everyone has the capacity to think evil but not everyone has the capacity to do it. Passively, we are all evil mongers but actively not everyone can activate evil. So commiting a crime or sin is in the active commission of an evil not the passive conceivment of one

It simply means the line between the passive conceivment of evil and commiting it is where strength and maturity lies. The ability to shrug the evil thought off and get it replaced is what is called strength. Those that are weak just go on with the thought and activate it.

For man to defeat evil he must be prepared to fight himself. Does it sound as if man is an enemy into himself. I am afraid, yes. It is a man who gets defeated by himself that activate evil after the initial conceivment. This goes to say it is a self defeated man that turns to a monster in the home, society, community and the state at large.

Our battle is not with the external force or a distant enemy but ourself. Our souls continue to whisper evil our spirit is expected to man up against our soul by fighting her. He who allows his soul to rule get defeated but he whose spirit is strong enough to suppress the evil whispers of the soul triumph.

Man in creation is set against his self to self destruct.

My first attempt at directing. It was a pleasant one. The first step at making a good film starts from cast and the crew not even the story. very good actors can make bad story look good , also bad crew and actors can make a good story look bad.

My take home from this first experience is that as a director, you don't need to drown your actors in the pool of so many Information or bark out instruction on how to react to every word in the script. Just explain the concept of every scene, what you intend to achieve in every scene and leave the rest to their creative interpretation.

Conflict is the soul of any movie. Any movie without conflict is not a movie. What births conflict is the difference in wants, a protagonist wants something, antagonist wants the opposite. If the protagonist gets what he wants it will deny the antagonist of what he want and vice versa, as a result, both are ready to fight what they want. If you critically look at it, the antagonist is not really an enemy to the protagonist both are only fighting for what they want. In fact, an antagonist don't know or feel what they are doing is bad.

Take Lord's of the Ring for example, Frodo needs to destroy the ring of evil failure to do so will keep the middle Earth enslaved to the ring and sauron. Sauron on the other hand needed the ring to assume a full form so he can be the most powerful and enslave the middle Earth. Can you see the basis of the conflict.

One camp wants to destroy the ring, another want to preserve it. Now, Frodo is not an enemy to sauron, he felt he was the doing right thing, Sauron on the other hand wasn't an enemy to Frodo he also was trying to achieve his goal.

The innocence in both the protagonist and the antagonist desire and the determination to achieve it at all cost is what most times pitch the protagonist and antagonist against each other. To raise the bar and the tension, make the desire or goal of both a matter of life and death. That is how a good film is made. If Frodo fails to destroy the ring, the middle Earth will be enslaved, if the ring is destroyed Sauron I'll become destroyed and extinct. What a fantastic plot. I love that film not because of the actions but because of the plot.
