LAGOS SAFETY COMMISSION SEALS 19 EVENT CENTRES FOR SAFETY INFRACTIONS
The Lagos Safety Commission has sealed 19 event centres for safety infractions in the interest of public safety.
Director-General of the Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola disclosed this during a recent routine inspection and an on-the-spot assessment of some event centres across the State.
According to him, the safety assessment exercise is an ongoing effort to achieve the Commission’s mandate of ensuring zero accidents, particularly during this yuletide season.
Mojola declared that before the exercise, the Commission had earlier informed all events centre owners through their various associations of the need to adopt safety best practices at all events and duly register all events from 250 guests and above via its registration portal www.lasgsafetyreg.com to obtain an Event Safety Permit.
He noted that the Commission has taken decisive action to enforce compliance with basic safety standards and guarantee safer events by sealing these event centres for nonconformity with already established safety protocols.
According to him, some of the event centres sealed include White Stone Event Centre, Lekki Coliseum, Leisure Park, La Madison, Haddasah, The Summit, Villa Park, De Dove, Majesty, The Podium, Celebrations Gardens and Tastee Event Centres among others.
He said the Commission will continue to conduct routine inspections to ensure that safety standards are upheld by the events and hospitality sectors within the State.
Mojola also enjoined members of the public to escalate and report safety infractions observed at events and public facilities to the Commission.
LASU LAUNCHES ONE-STOP MOBILE APPLICATION FOR STAFF
The Directorate of Information and Communications Technology, Lagos State University (LASU), has launched a one-stop mobile application, called LASU Staff Corner, for members of staff of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, who unveiled the application on Tuesday at the Senate Chamber of the University, said that the application is designed to improve productivity and understand the rules and regulations guiding the operations of LASU.
She added that the mobile application will serve as a centre for information, policy, laws and guidelines for both the academic and non-academic staff of the University.
Her words, “The APP will serve as a virtual gateway to our vibrant academic community, offering a window into the heart and soul of our institution. The APP will include information and resources that embody our policies and operational principles as approved by law and as entrenched in our commitment to excellence in education, research, and community engagement.
The VC, who is a Professor of Physiology, further acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of the Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), LASU, Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin and his team for the continuous drive to ensure that LASU leads in the flexible deployment of technology as a way of making workload less tedious.
She informed that the Application can be downloaded and installed through the University’s website, www.lasu.edu.ng, and is available to Android users only.
The application launch was well attended by members of the management team, professors, directors, deans, academic and non-academic staff of the university.

As part of its efforts to ensure a safe society devoid of all forms of Sexual and gender based violence for women and girls, the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has taken its fight to the Lagos State University with perspective of marking the 16 days of Activism against sexual and gender-based violence within the citadel of learning.
Speaking at the one-day workshop in collaboration with UN Women under a Gender and Safe Space Summit themed: ‘UNITE! Invest, Prevent Violence against Women and Girls’ the MWAPA Commissioner; Hon. Cecilia Bolaji Dada, who was represented by the Director, Finance and Accounts of the Ministry; Mrs. Kuburat Olanrewaju Lawal, charged students in tertiary institutions as well as Civil Society Organizations to invest in the fight to end gender - based violence amongst women and girls, in order to achieve a safe academic environment.
Th event was marked by honorary awards to the Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello MIN, NPOM, as the ‘ICON of Gender Safety for Nigeria and West Africa’ as well as the UN Women Deputy representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS Mr. Lansana Wonnen who was honoured with credence in Leadership.
The 17th edition of the Annual Culturati event was held on Sunday, December 3rd, 2023 at the Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, an initiative of the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on Torusim, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe.
The 3-day event, which connected people to African culture, had exciting and educating activities around African culture with culturati food fiesta, which portrayed the rich African foods, delicacies, and beverages.
The grand finale of the event held at the Balmoral Hall featured various displays of African culture from different masquerades, including Eyo traditional drums and dances, comedy, and many more.
Dignitaries that attended the event include Chairman House Committee on Tourism Arts and Culture Hon. Solomon Bonu, the Chief of Staff to Mr Governor, Mr Tayo Ayinde, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture Mrs T**e Benson-Awoyinka, Permanent Secretary Mrs Oloruntoyin Atekoja amongst others.

PLATEAU STATE UNDERSTUDIES LAGOS LANDS BUREAU AUTOMATION, TRANSACTION PROCESS
The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Lands Bureau, Mr. Kamar Olowoshago last week received government officials from Plateau State on a familiarisation tour of the State Lands Bureau.
Addressing the delegates, Olowoshago told the Plateau delegation that the State Government has automated its land registrations and transactions processes, following global best practices and in line with the THEMES Plus agenda of the State government that emphasises the use of technology for economic growth and transformation.
According to the Permanent Secretary, the automation of the State's Land process had assisted in simplifying land transactions, ensuring transparency, and enabling easy workflow of the activities of the Bureau.
He added that the Bureau is strategically divided into directorates and units to effectively deliver on its mandate in line with the THEMES Plus Agenda of the present administration particularly towards making Lagos a 21st Century Economy.
Olowoshago stressed that the Bureau has the mandate of ensuring optimal utilisation of available land resources in the State for sustainable development, in addition to entrenching a culture of excellence that will ensure prompt and efficient service delivery in the State.
In his words: “Our vision is to ensure efficient and effective land resources management that promotes equitable access to land, enabling environment for land delivery, land information and positively contribute to the sustainable socio-economic development of the State.”
While noting that Land is a major revenue source and valuable resource harnessed to address the needs of all residents in Lagos State, the Permanent Secretary added that the present administration anchored the State’s Land Administration on a strong legislative framework.
He commended the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unflinching support for all the Bureau’s initiatives and the confidence reposed in Lands Bureau as a key player in the realisation of the THEMES Plus Agenda.
The Permanent Secretary shared with the delegates the necessary information and resources to enhance their knowledge and broaden the horizon of their State.
The top management staff of the Bureau who received the delegation alongside the Permanent Secretary, took turns to share experiences and knowledge on the effective running and processes of their various departments with the Lagos Lands Bureau.
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Town Planning, Plateau State, Barr. Peter Nyam who led the delegation, hinted that the visit was in recognition of Lagos State’s excellence in Legal, Land administration matters to mention a few.
He appreciated the Permanent Secretary and the entire staff of the Bureau for their warm reception while assuring that the skills and knowledge gained from the visit would help them to improve their performances and enhance their service delivery to positively impact the growth of Plateau State.
