Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has renewed his administration's effort to combat banditry and criminality in the state with the launch of ten brand new armored personnel carriers (APCs). This follows the recent attack in Burdugau village, Kankara local government, that reportedly claimed the lives of thirteen people.
Governor Radda during the launch at the state's government house on Monday, reaffirms his unwavering commitment to ensuring the total elimination of banditry and criminality in Katsina State.
The new APCs he said will be deployed specifically for joint security clearing operations targeting bandit hideouts across the eight most affected local governments in the State.
While describing the recent attack as a setback, Governor Radda expressed confidence in the ongoing joint security efforts. He stated that for the past seven months, success is gradually being recorded "We wouldn't claim total elimination but significant progress has been made since the combined efforts began," Radda said.
Also speaking at the launch,
Dr. Nasiru Mua'azu Danmusa, the Commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, emphasized that the vehicles demonstrate the government's dedication to protecting its citizens.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, Ibrahim Sa'ad, expressed gratitude for the government's commitment. He expressed confidence that the new vehicles, coupled with the collaborative approach, will significantly aid in the fight against the state's security challenges.
The Katsina State government has announced plans to commence the distribution of rice to elderly individuals, women/widows and orphans across the state, as part of a free palliative initiative.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda confirmed this during the launch of the Ramadan commodities donated by Hon Sani Aliyu Danlami, the member representing Katsina Central Federal Constituency, at the Old Government House in Katsina.
According to Governor Radda, the distribution of grains and rice which Katsina, Daura and Funtua Local Government areas benefited last year is set to begin simultaneously across the remaining 31 local government areas soon. He assured Katsina residents of his administration's commitment to sustaining programme aimed at alleviating the hardships they are facing.
Radda said: "As part of this commitment, monthly allowances for chief imams, their assistants, and Muezzins of Jumaat mosques will now be disbursed directly into their individual accounts. Additionally, APC officials from wards, local government and State levels have been incorporated into the monthly payroll".
Expressing appreciation to Hon. Sani Aliyu Danlami for his donation, Governor Radda hoped for the continuation of such generous gestures.
The targeted beneficiaries of the food items include one thousand vulnerable individuals, five hundred political groups, and two hundred and fifty orphans and youths.
Hon. Sani Aliyu Danlami in his address, emphasized that his decision to provide the food items was inspired by Governor Dikko Radda's benevolent actions during the Ramadan period.
The donated food items comprise two thousand bags of twenty-five kilograms of rice, and one hundred bags each of maize and millet, aimed at vulnerable groups, orphans, youths, and political groups across the local government areas of Katsina.
The Chairman of Katsina Local Government, Alhaji Aminu Ashiru, expressed gratitude to the state governor for awarding various contracts worth about seventy billion naira in the local government headquarters. He also appreciated the introduction of free Ramadan feeding programmes and the sale of grains at subsidized prices.
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, announced the disbursement of over N470 million to victims of banditry and COVID-19 in the state. The initiative, delivered in partnership with the International Donor Agency and R.H. Equipt, aims to alleviate the economic hardship caused by these crises.
During the flag-off ceremony held at the Kabir Aliyu Maska Hall on Monday, Governor Radda disclosec that 550 victims of armed banditry received N150,000 each, totaling N82.5 million. While 3,876 COVID-19 victims received N100,000 each, amounting to N387.6 million. This brings the total disbursement to N470 million, excluding the cost of training provided to beneficiaries across Katsina's 34 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
According to Governor Radda, this programme is a fulfilment of a campaign promise he made during the January 2023 BBC Governorship debate. The Governor way back expressed his commitment to empowering those affected by banditry and COVID-19, particularly women and girls hit by the scourge.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor Radda commended the Katsina State Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development as well as the State's House of Assembly for their role in selecting and training the beneficiaries.
The Commissioner Ministry of Agriculture and livestock Development, Professor Ahmad Muhammad Bakori, expressed gratitude to the Governor and R.H. EQUIPT for the support given to the programme.
Professor Muhammad Yusuf Dandume, representing R.H. EQUIPT, reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating with the Katsina State Government to achieve success in this programme.
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has issued a stern warning to any officer of the Katsina State Road Traffic Agency (KASROTA) found engaging in corrupt practices.
The governor gave this warning during the Passing out Parade ceremony of 304 Marshals trained at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Training College in Katsina.
Addressing the newly recruited marshals, after reviewing the Parade, Governor Radda emphasized the importance of upholding the law and enforcing traffic regulations without bias.
He assured the marshals of his commitment to providing the necessary resources to support their operations, in line with the agency's legal mandate.
Furthermore, Governor Radda urged anti-corruption agencies and concerned citizens to report any instances of bribery or misconduct by KASROTA marshals while on duty.
Expressing gratitude to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for organizing the four-week training programme, Governor Radda pledged to consider the marshals' requests aimed at enhancing service delivery across the state.
Engineer Sani Magaji Ingawa, the State Commissioner of Works, Housing, and Transport, urged the newly recruited marshals to demonstrate maturity and adhere to the agency's legal framework in carrying out their responsibilities.
In his plea for additional support from the state government, retired Major Garba Yahya Rimi rtd, the Director-General of KASROTA, highlighted the need for more vehicles to enhance the agency's operational efficiency. He reiterated the agency's commitment to becoming a leading traffic management authority in the country.
Commandant Babangida Abdullahi Dutsinma of the Training College emphasized the institution's role in promoting peace, conflict resolution, and disaster management in Africa. He called for increased government support to facilitate effective service delivery.
The Katsina State Government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring transparency, integrity, and efficiency within KASROTA as part of efforts to enhance road safety and traffic management in the state.
Naufal Ahmed, the Director-General of the Katsina State Information Technology and Communication, ICT Directorate, represented the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda at the recent National Youth Conference and Exhibition on Artificial Intelligence, Powered by Rider Option Standard Vision. Governor Radda was honored with an Award of Excellence as the Most Distinguished Community-Driven Policy-Oriented Governor of the Year.
Rider Option Standard Vision is an NGO dedicated to advancing Digital Literacy and Artificial Intelligence awareness.
Immediately after the event, the State's ICT Strategist, Naufal was at the Government House to formally present the plaque and certificate to the Governor.
Governor Radda thanked the Promoters of the conference for the award and reiterated his firm commitment to make Katsina state an ICT Hub which would be a model worthy of emulation.
Katsina State Governor, Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda, has restated his commitment to helping the Katsina State Enterprises Development Agency, KASEDA, to achieve its core mandate.
He gave the assurance at the closing ceremony of an "Enterprise Development Management Advancement Programme", organized for KASEDA staff, in Kano.
The four-day training is part of the strategies adopted by the Radda Administration to ensure that KASEDA achieved success on the objective for which it was established.
Governor Radda, while delivering his remarks at the program, further emphasized the need for training and capacity building for KASEDA staff to empower them in advancing the fortunes of micro small and medium enterprises in the state.
He said with regular training and capacity building for KASEDA staff, the agency will become one of the top Enterprise Development Agencies across the country.
While commending the Director General of the agency for organizing the training, Malam Dikko Radda said the occasion has shown their commitment and desire to move KASEDA forward.
He charged the participants to take ownership of KASEDA, and not consider their jobs for earning salaries only, as they have been entrusted with running the affairs of the agency.
Radda also stressed the need for KASEDA staff to study how other relevant agencies are operating through visitation, with a view to understand their success stories and challenges, for them to take a lesson.
He maintained that knowledge is essential for any business to thrive, saying when the small and medium entrepreneurs have adequate knowledge of doing their business, they will be in a better position to use available capital for the development of their business.
During the training, resource persons presented lectures on entrepreneurship development and policy making.
Earlier, the Director General of KASEDA, Hajiya Aisha Aminu Malumfashi said Kano was chosen as venue of the training based on the history of the state in terms of trade.
She expressed appreciation over the support and cooperation the agency is receiving from Governor Radda and appealed for more, for the attainment of desired goals.
To checkmate the continuous increment in the prices of food and other commodities in Katsina State, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda on Friday held a 'strategic meeting' with key stakeholders in the state.
The meeting was attended by Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, Emir of Katsina, and that of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruq Umar, together with the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Nasiru Yahya, the State Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar, and the Grand Khadi of Katsina, Justice Kabir Abubakar.
Others include the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Abdullahi Garba Faskari, Heads of security outfits, and some members of the State Executive Council, among others.
Speaking during the meeting, Governor Radda said the state government is aware of the daily rise in prices of essential commodities, which is subjecting people to untold hardship.
This situation, he said, forced residents of Niger and Kano states to embark on demonstrations, recently.
According to him, reports have shown that the mass export of commodities from Nigeria to Niger Republic, Mali and other neighbouring countries, together with some Nigerians hoarding essential food commodities, are responsible for the daily increment in prices of goods and commodities.
Meanwhile, Governor Radda has reiterated his administration's commitment to organizing training and providing necessary logistics support to any Katsina community ready to protect itself from criminal attacks.
He said the state government is seriously concerned about Katsina's insecurity, hence the need for a collective effort in fighting the ugly trend.
The governor regretted that bandits have now adopted the use of reinforcement from neighbouring forests to launch an attack and kidnap innocent citizens, regardless of their economic status.
