Steve Jobs – 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech

Steve Jobs, one of the key figures behind tech giant Apple’s success, is next up on our list of the best motivational speeches of all time.

In his 2005 Stanford commencement speech the former Apple CEO dives deep into his own journey as an entrepreneur, and he speaks openly about the issues that he’s faced along the way, and how he overcame them.

During this classic motivational speech Jobs talks about how he was actually a college dropout, and that this was one of the most important times of his life.

Why?

He mentioned that he dropped out of college to take classes which he was truly interested in, rather than studying topics which he wasn’t deeply passionate about.

One of those classes that he took up after dropping out was calligraphy. He was so compelled by the high standard of handwriting.

To many, this might seem like a strange choice, but he connects his experience that he gained from that class to the font choices that he installed in Apple computers.

If Jobs had never taken that calligraphy class, he wouldn’t have cared so much about a seemingly small detail, like fonts, but Apple was the first company to add different typefaces to their operating systems.

He goes on to say: “You can’t connect the dots if you’re looking forward, you can only do it looking backwards. So, you need to keep moving forward and hope that the dots align somehow.”

The key message from this famous motivational speech is that we’re always learning. We’re always growing and finding out new information. It’s all about what we choose to do with that information which really defines us.

As Jobs said: “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”

2022 is nothing but a change in the calendar, na wetin you sow, you go wear

Lately I've been seeing too many new year resolutions, "in 2022 this & that will happen"

But underneath the whole excitement and serenren is nothing but vibes, no actual plans put in place, no measurable goals in sight, just wishful thinking

I'm not trying to sound negative oh, but c'mon let's face the facts, na today we start to dey enter new year?

What specifically are you going to do in this new year starting from January?

They say only a fool does the same thing to expect a different result. If you keep doing the same things you'll get the same results!

Time doesn't change things, it is what you do with time that brings about change

Right now, sit down take a pen & paper. Don't start out writing your new year goals yet,

✅first take an inventory of your year so far, starting from January 2021. Think about how excited you were about the new year then & how it turned out in the end

✅Write down the things you wished for in 2021, strike out the ones you achieved & leave the ones you didn't achieve

✅Take notes of the ones you didn't & see if it's still something you'll like to carry over into the new year

✅Then check what you did this year to meet that goal, ask yourself what you could have done differently, or what needed to happen first to help you meet that goal

Make up your mind to take calculates risks and do that one thing that scares you in 2022

By that I mean something valuable that you've always wanted to do but overthinking no gree you see front

Give yourself the liberty to fail & learn from them. You've played it safe for too long, where did that get you?

Try out new things in 2022, you'll either win or you learn

How much income is ENOUGH for you in Nigeria?

I live in Lagos,one of the busiest and most expensive city to live in and one thing I've learnt is that enough income means making money from different places.

In states like Ekiti and Ondo or the northern parts of Nigeria, an income of N350k a month might be enough for you to live well.
