DEATH TRAP IN MY CITY
Coming back from a bank by Joju Bus-stop, I was about taking a bike heading to Yidi-Ota. My glance picked the not too young but controversial landmark in my city (The Bridge). Immediatly, I got entised by the view one gets standing right on the peak of the bridge, the seemingly similar view to the old Oshodi metropolis. I told the bike man "Sorry, I no go again", as i ascended the bridge. About few Meters to the eye of the bridge and at least 12 feet high, I saw something that made my heart skip.
A damaged portion of the bridge, the Bridge Barrier (part of the bridge that prevents falling over) held together by clamps! Heavy mass of bricks and irons capable of crushing a vehicle held together with clamps? my heart raced. Should this clamps faulters, these heavy mass will fall about 15feet down to a road where nothing less than 5,000 vehicles and more passers-by ply everyday. Questions begin to rain in my head!
How did this damage happen?
Who reported the damage?
Who was sent to check the damage?
Who recommended clamping instaed of fixing?
Who gave out the final order to set a death trap on a metropolis?
God forbid the worse case scenario, who will be responsible and accountable? When lifes are lost and properties destroyed, who will be the victim? What consolation will we have? What will be our excuse for the damage done.
I do not know who have seen this and what is currently being done. But I Adelabu Sodeeq saw it and have spoken out for I fear for my life and that of my country men.
