Saucha purity
The classical perspecitive of yoga (like raja yoga), encourages us to look at the hindrances to our awakening. Our desires, tendencies, proclivites are physical inclinations that block our clearness of vision.
Like in the hatha yoga pradipika, practicioners go through different purification processes like the shatkarmas. Rituals like pulling strings through the nose, or drinking salty water.
Also yogasana and pranayama can help us to undo ourselves from blockages and purify our energy. This is how we come closer to the subtle physical and mental energy or âessenceâ. (sattva)
Practice of saucha starts with the external environment and keeping your surroundings clean. It also includes purity of bodies from both outside and inside. Healthy diet, personal hygiene and emotional plus mental care.
Purification will also result in a more clear intention here on earth. Cut out all the clutter. All the extraâs. Focus on the bare necessities to know what is truly important.

FRIDAY May 19th â Public Lecture, topic: The Buddhist perspective on death - Part I (of II)

Everybody knows the word death. But what does is mean, what does it mean to die? Everybody will die, itâs coming for all of us, but when or how, we donât know. According to Buddhism the body dies, but the mind does not. Our consciousness will continue to the next life. Mind cannot die. So, what happens when we die? And what happens after death?
During this lecture Lama JigmĂŠ Namgyal will give a brief explanation on this deep and broad topic. Depending on the public certain topics will and will not be discussed. In the next lecture (June 16) he will continue where he left off. There will also be a short (guided) meditation session.
This lecture is open to everybody, whatever your believe is. Lama will be teaching in English and here will be the opportunity to ask him questions regarding this topic.

Our minds tend to get a little greedy sometimes. It starts with a craving. Next we cant continue our day peacefully without full filling the craving. Finally, we must have it as soon as possible.
Do you recognise these thoughts evolving:
âI want it.â
âI need it.â
âI gotta ap it.â
This is greediness growing in your head. Its the nature of the mind to follow this pattern.
But what if we become aware?
Notice your thoughts becoming more compulsory.
And step out of it. Because itâs ridiculous. đ Of course you can survive without owning this particular thing / person / or consumption.
The human mind can get possessive towards objects. Even people, friends or lovers. Or non-material things: like attention, power, influence.
As yogiâs it is our mission to sharpen our attention. Stay alert to this kind of negative habbit patterns of our minds. To not accept these thoughts when they come up: and most definitely: donât put these thoughts into action.
(Unless to have a good laugh at them!)

Join me on Thursday morning in a flow to move, to explore, and to wake up vitalized. We will first move through gentle seated asanas as you feel your body, noticing any restrictions or tight areas, and heightening awareness. The flow then progresses to a more moderate pace, followed by gentle stretching asanas, and resting in Savasana. The practice is suitable for all levels.

Brahmacharya ⢠Chastity ⢠This is a juicy one!
â¨Chastity in this context is not celibacy per se. Rather, it is about considering your own sexual energy SACRED. Your sexual energy is your creative power. â¨It is a form of manifestation of your life force (Prana).
â¨In the practice of yoga, asana and pranayama, we aim to EXPAND our lifeforce. Classical yoga prescribes that the channels (nadiâs) should stay open to let energy flow. Through meditation and deep breathing, you become more attuned to different sorts of energies.
You may also notice sexual energy. â¨â¨When you practice Brahmacharya, you do not want to SPILL or WASTE your sexual energy.
Instead, PROTECT and TREASURE it. â¨
More specifically:â¨- donât share this energy with anyoneâ¨- donât chase an orgasmâ¨- donât take it for grantedâ¨- donât get addicted to pleasureâ¨
But DO:
- move this energy through your bodyâ¨- surrender and enjoy - no need to do something with itâ¨- when sharing, take time and consider this a sacred ritual â¨- Highly value your pleasure as your personal power
For some it could be considered as self-restraining. But when the thoughts behind this choice really resonate, it feels more like SELF-RESPECTING. â¨Brahmacharya is living the realisation that your body and your energy is PRECIOUS. â¨

Rene heeft de website voor Banyan gemaakt en houdt/hield die al jaren bij. Gigantische steun voor Banyan geweest tijdens corona in no time de site geschikt gemaakt voor online yoga en video's. Maar ook de flyers en de inschrijfformulieren heeft hij ontworpen. Maar ook de site voor Phuntsoknamgyalling en destijds ook voor de Banyan Foundation (die is helaas inmiddels opgeheven). Altijd vrolijk en energiek, en lekker eigenwijs.
Rust in vrede.

This evening Lama JigmĂŠ will talk about how to deal with relationships.
Since everything is interdependent, our lives are an expanding web of relationships, some of which we have chosen for, others not: the relationship with our families, loved ones, friends and colleagues; our relationship with the wider world, and the relationship with our mind or consciousness. But how to deal with all these different relationships? If we understand how the human mind works and how to uncover mindâs natural qualities such as love and compassion, then our interaction with others will be harmonious, gentle and authentic.
There will also be a short (guided) meditation session.
This lecture is open to everybody, whatever your believe is. Lama will be teaching in English and here will be the opportunity to ask him questions regarding this topic.

#3 Asteya ⢠NON-STEALING
âStealingâ in this context is not limited to material things. It also refers to energy, attention, time, money and space.
A first step in the practice of Asteya is to become more sensitive to your environment. Start to become aware of the space you take within a place. How much space other people are taking in. A yogi is not eager to âsteal the showâ. Rather to be humble and enjoy the show.
For a practitioner of yoga it is crucial to develop an attitude of modesty. To take just a little amount of everything. To not crave a lot. This includes being mindful of:â¨
* the total amount of resources
* others peoples fair share
* sustainability or durability
To be able to ânever take what isnât yoursâ you have to face your ego. The ego is the part of you that wants to take ownership. The ego loves taking possession of material things, people or other peoples attention.
Notice when your mind goes: âI want this.â Or âThis is mine.ââ¨

- Observe balanced energy exchange in relationships
