Alzheimers is a cruel disease that robs individuals of their identities and independence and steals priceless connections and memories between family members. It's heart breaking for both the individual and their families to witness. Behind every Alzheimers case there is an army of care givers.
Fundraising for Alzhemiers Research UK helps to provide essential resources, training programmes and respite services for individuals selflessly caring for loved ones with Alzhemiers.
Our team (Hunta Hero's) includes those who have directly had to face the challenging and devastating effect of their loved ones suffering with Alzheimers.
Any amount you can sponsor us will go directly to helping other families who are fighting this battle and hopefully get us closer to, one day, finding a cure.
Thank you.

If you love a cup of coffee, you're alright. ☕
"Coffee/caffeine consumption is not harmful if consumed at levels of 200 mg in one sitting (around 2½ cups of coffee) or 400 mg daily (around 5 cups of coffee). In addition, caffeine has many positive actions on the brain. It can increase alertness and well-being, help concentration, improve mood and limit depression. Caffeine may disturb sleep, but only in sensitive individuals. It may raise anxiety in a small subset of particularly sensitive people. Caffeine does not seem to lead to dependence, although a minority of people experience withdrawal symptoms. Caffeine can potentiate the effect of regular analgesic drugs in headache and migraine. Lifelong coffee/caffeine consumption has been associated with prevention of cognitive decline, and reduced risk of developing stroke, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease. Its consumption does not seem to influence seizure occurrence. Thus, daily coffee and caffeine intake can be part of a healthy balanced diet; its consumption does not need to be stopped in elderly people."

Rounding up this week with some more on how to stimulate the
Namaste 🧠🧘♀️
🧘♀️ The Vagus Nerve...
Proper activity helps with relaxation, digestion, mood, etc.
🤔 How to stimulate it?
Check out this week's posts.
🧠 The vagus nerve or the "wandering" nerve is the longest nerve in the human body and is one of the most important nerves in the autonomic nervous system. It is also known as the 10th cranial nerve (CNX) and originates in the brainstem and extends down to the abdomen, passing through several organs on its way.
The vagus nerve has both sensory and motor functions. It sends sensory information from the organs in the chest and abdomen to the brain, and it controls many important involuntary functions in the body, including heart rate, breathing, and digestion. It also plays a crucial role in the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the "rest and digest" response in the body.
Recent studies have shown that the vagus nerve stimulation can have therapeutic effects in treating a variety of conditions, including depression, epilepsy, and chronic pain.
This week we'll teach you ways to stimulate the vagus nerve.
🏃♂️ Remember 🧠
"Exercise is like fertilizer for the brain"
Physical activity sparks the production of BDNF or Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor.
It literally helps maintaining AND gaining grey matter!
This weekend, two of our residential lecturers tackled in Barcelona.

We have an online seminar on improving physical performance on our online learning platform. Life time access of an accredited seminar 🤘

Your eyes merely absorb light at the back of the retina (think photoreceptors, rods and cones).
Your optic nerve (CN II) sends it posteriorly where tracts travel through the optic chiasm to the lateral geniculate nucleus in the thalamus (the sensory relay center) to further continue as radiations to the occipital lobe where the light is interpreted and translated into a meaning, an object, person or image.
If you want to learn more about practical neurology, check out our accredited online seminars (link 🔗 in bio) or join us in person. 6th of May we'll discuss everything dizziness 💫
🧠 Have you heard of the Temporal lobe? 😄
Think of hearing, language interpretation, processing emotions and encoding memory to mention just a few key functions.
Can you come up with a quick test to assess the temporal lobe's functionality? Comment below ⤵️

🌄 Did you know that exposing yourself to natural light first thing in the morning improves your circadian rhythm and sleep as a result?
By increasing light exposure early on the day, your cortisol and adrenaline levels peak around late morning. Usually a time of the day we love to be focused and high performing.
When the evening arrives these levels drop and melatonin can rise. This in turn makes us sleepy. You will fall asleep quicker and are less likely to wake up during the night.
That's one reason I always take out the dogs as soon as I wake up.
🧠♥️🏋️♂️
Your brain loves exercise!
Researchers from the University of South Australia are calling for exercise to be a mainstay approach for managing depression as a new study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine shows that physical activity is 1.5x more effective than counselling or the leading medications .
This new study reviewed 97 reviews, including 128,199 participants.
It shows that physical activity is extremely beneficial for improving symptoms of depression, anxiety, and distress.
Higher intensity exercise had greater improvements for depression and anxiety, while longer durations had smaller effects when compared to short and mid-duration bursts.
Perhaps consider a local HIIT or CrossFit class to help you with your mental health.
You can find your local CrossFit gym on crossfit.com at the right top "find a gym".
If you are close to Leiden 🇳🇱 is the place to go. If you're in Kent 🇬🇧 head to .hunta. If you're in Sitges 🇪🇸 all the way.
Keep moving folks 👊

🧠 If there is one thing you think of when we say "parietal lobe"... What would it be? 🤔
🙋🏼♂️ I'm guessing most of you would say: sensory!
👌 You'd be absolutely right. Somatosensory to be precise.
ℹ️ Touch, temperature, nociception (usually perceived as pain), object texture, vibration, etc. All this information from the body to the brain is processed and interpreted in the somatosensory cortex.
👉 Do you know of a single quick test to assess functionality? Comment below or find out later this week on this page.
🏃♂️ Can't wait to learn all about the brain? Head to our website (link 🔗 in bio) and download the 6hr CPD accredited seminar: "Introduction to Functional Neurology". The first in our 4 part essential series.
🧠 This week we'll talk a little bit about the brain. Cerebral cortex specially.
The frontal lobe, which includes the prefrontal cortex, is the last to develop.
It's part of the telencephalon (secondary brain vesicle) which in turn is an extension of the prosencephalon (primary brain vesicle).
Swipe for it's functional areas and to learn some of its actions.
Do you know a test to assess the functionality of the motor cortex?

👃 Did you know that the way you breath impacts your mental and physical health?

We believe functional neurology has made us better chiropractors and we are excited about sharing our knowledge with you!
In October 2015 we launched a series of accredited modules with the intention to introduce fellow chiropractors to the world of functional neurology. Each model we put together consists of a day session during which we discuss (in a simplified manner) the main centres of the nervous system and show the practical therapeutic applications of a functional neurologic approach.
Courses take place mainly in Leiden (Netherlands) and are held in English.
We believe functional neurology has made us better chiropractors and are very excited to share our knowledge whether you are a seasoned chiropractor looking for a functional neurologic approach, or a new graduate looking for a stepping stone towards a full degree in functional neurology.
Our lecturers are chiropractors trained by the Carrick Institute and are Diplomates of the American Board of Functional Neurology (DACNB). Furthermore, they all have ample experience as chiropractors, teachers, lecturers and leaders.
